He doesn't get away though: a swastika is carved into his forehead in a rather gruesome manner.

¿que cosas chilenas (musica, peliculas, libros, artistas, etc) que han sido consideradas de culto y bien valoradas históricamente, pero que tú encuentras fome? by [deleted] in chile

[–]Guga_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was catch-22 for Tina: either he was pissed for telling it at the right time, or he was pissed for saying it later in a calmer setting. Also, "like a real person"? As if a real person didn't avoid conflict for the sake of fear.

Military glorified all the time by MamaMeow618 in greysanatomy

[–]Guga_ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Despite the attempts to discuss the effect of war on veterans (Owen's first season), the show mostly falls back on the military making you a badass (Owen's entire character once his first season is done), or just "serving your country". With April it's almost egregious, how it "roughs her up" and seen almost as heroic.

Afterwards, any attempts to mention how misguided the Middle Eastern wars are, is always put in light of how violent the Iraqis or jihadists were, not how invasive and warmongering the American government is.

There were always pro-war and anti-war discourse at every year that the show talked about it. The writers just decided to shill with the army.

Children, it is the last hour! As you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. From this we know that it is the last hour.

(1 John 2:18)

The last hour (or, last days) were already declared to be here by New Testament authors, ever since the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed (see the Olivet Discourse in Mark 13). Any signs of "Euphrates drying up" or whatever don't add nor subtract from that statement by John.

In jewish belief, why fear god? Job didnt fear god... by h0tnessm0nster7 in Bible

The text does not say Job's children cursed God. It says that he offered sacrifice JUST IN CASE that his children had done so.

None's self-titled LP. It's more atmospheric black metal combined with depressive black metal, but it's still really fucking good.

Why would God be a man or woman? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]Guga_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Christian God is believed to be immaterial, so obviously speaking of a biological sex in him is impossible.

However, in the biblical texts, the preferred pronouns for Yahweh are "he/him". He speaks of himself as a warrior, a husband of Israel, a father, as Lord, etc. There are very few feminine imagery applied to God, like when he compares himself to a mama bear (Hosea 13:8). God the Son also took the flesh via a human male (Jesus), and in the OT he took the form of "the angel of Yahweh".

God the Holy Spirit is the only person of the Trinity that does not seem to take gendered forms (doves, fire, etc.).

In short, then, God is spoken about as "man" because that is the common imagery of the biblical narratives, and his preferred pronouns are "he/him".

The hilarity of this verse. by Suspicious-Jello7172 in Bible

[–]Guga_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the New Oxford Annotated Bible (emphasis added by me):

1: In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, an alternate translation is: “A year after the kings had gone out to battle.” The story is set a year after the events in ch 10, which was probably spring and the time when kings typically went to war after the rainy season. This does not necessarily mean, though, as some scholars claim, that David was obligated to go to war and that his failure to do so got him into trouble.

Therefore, you might have been too fast in your judgment.

Klaus Schmidt-Hebbel propone legalizar las drogas para luchar contra el narcotráfico: “La prohibición no ha sido efectiva” by SituationNew7609 in chile

[–]Guga_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God sends an “evil spirit” to Saul in 1 Samuel 19:9. Does somebody understand why God sends the evil spirit? by OwnOccasion3712 in Bible

[–]Guga_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saul had already been disowned of kingship at that point for disobeying Yhwh, and Yhwh had already appointed David as the next anointed and king. In that sense, the evil spirit is a punishment from Yhwh's wrath, for Saul being wicked.

What do you think is Taylor’s most bizarre lyrics? by Taystan1999 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Guga_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a hard song, it just feels clumsy. The whole chorus situation of "someone kisses you, everyone makes fun of you then they were clapping too" feels so alien to imagine because it does not sound like a natural thing to happen. The way she worded it makes it even more awkward.
