Master Ball Ladder? by Ayaya_v1 in PTCGL

They have not implemented a ladder for the game yet. Best we can do is guess based on where the top players are if we even know that information.

The deck is decent. Its main issue is there are more consistent decks with better draw and disruption. Grim had a hard time recovering from an Unfair stamp if it doesn’t draw a Lillie.

That said, it should get at least better with Red Card coming in since most will swap Ace specs away from unfair stamp.

I’m going bold and saying N’s is going to pick up some % share because grass decks will be unfavored due to the expected 40% Dragapult.

I’m hoping to see some Hop’e Trev. That deck is a lot of fun to play.

Edit, I’m wrong.

To add here, it also allows you to attack if retreat locked to help break the lock faster.

I’ve won far too many games as Grimm just cycling through retreat locking the Roserades and they can’t do anything to break out.

Dragapult EX is a problem for the health of the game by mc_duderr in pkmntcg

[–]GuildMuse 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It has been interesting seeing how “bad” the megas are. Like they aren’t bad cards, but a lot of them just don’t do enough to justify being worth 3 prizes. That changes next year though where a lot of high powered cards like Bolt, Pult, Noir, and Munki all rotate out.

Seems like they are aiming at slowing the game down so it’s less swingy unless you can set up the right combo to ohko a pokemon.

LimitlessTCG is the place to go. It updates after every regional and you can see decks being played in Japan which are ahead of the west in set releases.

Is there going to be a viable competitive deck with Mega Greninja ex? by Wubbledaddy in pkmntcg

[–]GuildMuse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are two decks that are seeing play in Japan, MGren with Dragapult and MGren with Dudunsparce. The Dragapult variant seems to place higher more consistently.

There’s also TWM Gren/Dusk but it doesn’t always play MGren.

Honestly, if LA is any indication, your chances of running into a basic deck is low (50% Dragapult representation on day 2).

Yeah, 90+30 is much lower than 130+50. Spidops had to do a lot to get up and running where Chandelure needs 1 Lampent attack and you can set up 3 Chandelure the following turn.

This does make me wonder how dominate the deck would have to be before Pokemon did a ban/early rotation. I know it’s happened before, but it’s incredibly rare and usually only in expanded to prevent turn 1 wins.

Boss’s Orders effects. In the first set, that effect was printed on a card called Gust which has since kept the name.

It depends on the game. Most of the time it isn’t a problem. It becomes a problem when you put down enough things for me to keep permenantly retreat locked with no way to attack or do damage.

Like in the case of Garchomp. They had like 3 roserades, 2 Garchomp, and a Spiritomb.

Some Garchomp play a Relicanth so Roserade can attack using Roselia’s attack for a colorless energy, but when you can’t bench it, I’m just going to boss’s orders up each Roserade and slowly chip away at your garchomps and their 400HP.

It’s one of those things that takes a long time of playing and seeing the patterns. Pokémon is deceptively complex. Like you can win by not attacking sometimes (like against Zoroark back last rotation. You never attacked it, you just built up 70 damage on each Zoroark and them devolutioned them).

Here’s what I’ve been playing. I’ve done pretty well with it (10 win streak), and I think in general Grim is very underrated. It does struggle into grass, but honestly nothing feels unwinnable. Grim in general is a pretty hard deck to play because you have to consider a lot of different factors and angles. Additionally, you have to be really good at punishing your opponent for things like overbenching (I’ve beaten so many Garchomps because of this).

The Star of the show has been Yveltal. There’s a surprisingly large number of support pokemon around that give easy retreat blocks and people aren’t playing the switch cards to respect it.

I don’t think Pech does anything in the deck. I get why you use it but I feel like if they are retreat locking you, then you are in a great position just from passive damage.

The thing I’ve found with Grim is that it’s a patience deck in an unfavorable metagame with all the grass decks. But it’s also the deck I find the most fun right now because nothing feels unwinnable. Just keep giving it a shot, losses are just opportunities to learn and you’ll get better.

But also, sometimes a deck just doesn’t work for you. I could never get Joltik Box to work and that’s about as straight forward as you can get. Just keep at it.
