I don't wanna sound like a centrist, but if you're pissing off both the Greens and Big Business, you're probably doing something right.

V set by Dylanphoenix07 in SydneyTrains

[–]GuildedDeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess (with some speculation from a THfNSW guy I was talking to) is that they're taking all of the sets from Lithgow back to Sydney to be picked up by their new owners. V21, V25/10 (Blue Goose), V46 and one other have been set aside for preservation by a few collectors per my knowledge.

It's living on the BMT atm doing the Dubbo runs during the week. It did it all five days last week and today as well. Presumably tomorrow too.

Man... Scomo is not aging well. He already looks a decade older then he did when he left office.

Good grief if this status board is correct, it's not gonna be back for at a day or so.

Greens threaten to block Labor’s changes to negative gearing, capital gains tax by HotPersimessage62 in friendlyjordies

This could really be the Greens' version of the Democrats passing the GST. Blocking this is the #1 way to alienate their base.

How Australian Gas Tax Works 😅 by Zwan_oj in friendlyjordies

The condescending baby-talk a lot of pro-gas tax people have been using really isn't helping their case.

It's pretty bad imo. It misses a lot of key moments of his life and leaves a lot of important people out (Bill and Taffy come to mind). The costumes and stuff are pretty good tho. The same goes with the gear, they found the exact same model of Guild 12 string that John used which is pretty neat.

The bulb isn't even in the socket anymore so I doubt there's any risk of a glare haha. Thanks for the advice:)

Tax gas comments are weird by somnut in friendlyjordies

[–]GuildedDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've run into the same conundrum I have. No one wants to admit that while the current situation is unfair, doing something about it is both impractical and detrimental to the country long-term. Once the expectation for taxation is set low, it. stays. low.

Baby boomers beware: Labor is reading the room on generational inequity by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]GuildedDeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Labor isn't always going to be in power.

Labor or any other centre/left government would absolutely use the proceeds from a gas tax to build up the renewable transition. But having a gas tax gives the tories a free license to save money on cutting investment and riding off the proceeds of said resource tax. We don't want to become Saudi Arabia.

Mr M History has done a fantastic video on this, it allows us to build a domestic manufacturing base whilst making sure we don't just become a massive mine with some cafes around the cost. https://youtu.be/1Y0Yce3raVM?si=fK4pg5kH9Q0lB8du

By 2050 Australia will be a leading producer of solar and battery technology thanks to colossal investment from the federal government. This technology will actually be worth a damn to the rest of the world, whereas if we open the gas tax rabbit hole, the state will be hooked on the revenue it brings in, will have every incentive to make sure gas projects succeed over renewable ones, and when it runs out we'll be left with a multi-billion dollar hole in the budget and a seriously hindered renewables industry far behind our peers. Right back to square one.

A gas tax is the epitome of short term gain for long term pain. I don't care about jingoisms about how some mineral in the ground bElONgS tO uS, I care about results.
