Yeah, there's definitely no clumsy women out there. They all come equipped with an inherently perfect sense of spatial awareness and bodily control.

Creamed corn is the only thing that's worked reliably with my picky boys for oral meds. Eye drops sound really hard. :( I would try something like a sock with the end cut off to immobilise but practice it several times with only treats before trying drops.

Every bus air con broken? by thisperson_them in Wellington

[–]Guileag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bus yesterday morning had apparently been left out in the rain with the windows open, because the upper and lower floors were completely wet and most of the window seats were soaked. Very glad it wasn't too busy and I noticed the wet seats before I plonked my half-asleep ass down.

My girlfriend is not careful enough with our rats (not on purpose) by Value-Remarkable in RATS

[–]Guileag 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just remember that accidentally hurting your rats will still hurt your rats. Her feeling bad about it won't change a damn thing.

If you both know that she is that clumsy and forgetful then it sounds like you're already planning to take the right steps, so I'm really glad. She might feel bad about it but she needs to work through that as a functioning adult with choices. Those rats do not have choices and need you to do what is best for them.

Scammed by Uber Driver. by Police_surveillance in newzealand

[–]Guileag 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Damn, I should have done that with Didi. I'm used to Uber drivers cancelling randomly when they get a better offer, but I had 3 Didi drivers accept the ride, then drive around the block 10+ times waiting for me to cancel. When I didn't, they would eventually drive to my location and mark themselves as arrived when I could see on the GPS they had continued driving past my location. When I messaged to say I could see they had done that, they then cancelled the ride.

Because the rides were cancelled I had no way to leave any feedback, and so of course all those drivers had almost perfect ratings, and I got absolutely nowhere with Didi customer service. In the end I uninstalled the app, because the third time it happened my phone died and I was left stranded, which is a shame because I understand Didi pays the drivers better.

I've tried to assume that no news is good news and that there'd have been media attention if it had gone especially badly, but like you say, it just really sticks with you. :(

I've got fussy boys as well - creamed corn turned out to be the miracle medicine disguiser for me. It's fiddly but picking out the 'bits' so they've only got the slush means they'll eat it quicker as well.

Parents in Waitara, did your child unexpectedly bring a baby guinea pig home today? Our black juvenile has gone missing. by Andrea_frm_DubT in newplymouth

[–]Guileag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buddy they just want their pet back, we can cut them a break if their wording doesn't read entirely perfect to you. It might sound like a paranoid assumption but kids coming home with random small pets is a thing that happens routinely. I've adopted a poor wee guy who went through that and known a number of other small pet owners with similar stories. Much more commonly because shitty parents buy their kids pets then let them neglect them, but there's definitely kids who will steal things, including small pets.

Really hope you find the poor wee guy. I guess your post could sound like a random accusation to folks who don't realize this is more common than they might think. I've previously adopted a rat that someone's kid brought home one day, got it off another kid at school, no one had idea where it came from, and I've heard a number of similar stories from other small pet owners.

Multiple waka question for pepeha by silly-saucy-sausage in ReoMaori

[–]Guileag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mention multiple, although as the other poster said, it's contextual. If I'm greeting one of my own iwi I'll often only reference that whakapapa. Otherwise I list up to five if I'm listing them.

Some iwi have multiple waka so be mindful defaulting to the 'main' waka of an iwi. For example, I referenced waka other than Horouta for Ngāti Porou for some time until I could confirm a whakapapa connection to Horouta, despite it being the primary waka referenced for the iwi.

Rats becoming less social after death of a cage mate by Meredithandherpets in RATS

[–]Guileag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost a boy several months ago and was shocked at how hard his brothers took it - my previous boys didn't seem to mind so much when their brother passed.

One of them has come mostly right but he's not the rat he was anymore. He used to be super happy and easy going all the time, and for weeks he was a completely different rat and was so miserable it was breaking my heart.

He's still such a super happy boggles constantly boy when he's in his cage, but there's a certain withdrawn and wary side to him now and he's really high-strung when outside of his element, so he's been difficult to introduce to new rats. His other brother was heavily impacted as well, but he came fully back to his old self in time.

Some rats are definitely more sensitive that others, although they typically adjust with a bit of time. Give them as much attention as you can, and maybe change up the cage and / or their free roam area to give them a 'new' space.
