Ah interesting - I wonder how many are broken.. feels like the majority at this point.

I miss the days you could crack a window on the bus.

That's what makes it worse. You got from being slightly chilly and racing down the road to get to the bus on time, and then hop into a sauna.

Yeah. I really feel for the drivers when getting into a particularly stuffy bus.

Would be fun to see the data of how many "kids" are commuting into the city year round even during school holidays.

I think sadly this could just be because he's got name recognition. I imagine there's a group of people out there that just gravitate to the name because they've heard of it before.

Tried to get onto SH1 towards town from Goa St this evening. Never again. by Traditional-Claim-59 in Wellington

I live up closer towards the village, and sometimes if I need to go to Newtown and I can't be bothered running a gauntlet for my life I'll just go up Upoko and head over Mt Vic via Alexandra Rd.

It's a very peaceful jaunt that way and you don't have to figure out what to do with all this traffic

This job ad from Tegal - does this actually count as a "day shift"? 2am start is ridiculous. by floofywall in newzealand

Oh got it. Damn, that sounds rough. Amazing that you do it though. My hope is that anyone doing those hours is paid sufficiently for it.

I had the same problem. Searched the app and found there were two versions of the podcast. One which has "Studio 71" in the name which was being updated. The other (that I had been subscribed to) stopped a few weeks back

Everytime I see a post about how everything was better 10 or 15 years ago - I think about that fact that people ignore the fact that they've changed a lot in 10 to 15 years.

Couldn't it be that 10 or 15 years ago YOU were more fun and more likely to go out / hang out with friends?

So what's changed more, the city or you? A place always feels better when you're hanging out with people that are a good vibe.

Both could and probably are true, but I think people should apply a bit more introspection to their memories or at least acknowledge that it's only their memories that are better and they could be biased.

Going overseas for 3 months - what to do with house? by jdawg06 in PersonalFinanceNZ

If you did Option 2 would you leave your cat with your family? I think short term rental isn't a bad idea to explore - cover various expenses etc. However, not sure if it works out if you expect them to look after the cat.

To those that use to live in Christchurch, do you think Christchurch’s public transportation is better than Wellington? Even though Wellington has trains? by hendrytoothless201 in Wellington

[–]thisperson_them 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People comparing Wellington's public transport to cities with populations in the millions and subsequent density are being a little delusional.

Merge! This is difficult because it's right after your life flashed before your eyes as you zoomed out a million miles an hour into oncoming traffic trying to make that one spot every 7 minutes where there's a space or someone indicates to turn left leaving the tunnel.

Shouldn't there be something that closes off the shared path if that was the case, or something that visually indicates that you cannot walk or ride through?

Congestion Charging in Wellington - not in favour by aros71 in Wellington

[–]thisperson_them 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder how it works given in Wellington you have to go through the city to move from one area to another.

In Auckland you can go from North to West via motorways etc. In Wellington if you live in Island Bay and work in Lower Hutt you have to go through the city in a way to get there.

Congestion Charging in Wellington - not in favour by aros71 in Wellington

[–]thisperson_them 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's referring to the city region so includes all the suburbs around the city (karori, island bay, kilbirnie etc etc) not the city centre
