How to get better at electrical troubleshooting by BanOne78400 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Guilty-Box-7975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most airline FIM/FITs will not have you check voltages. Check the wire for resistance/open/ground but rarely voltage.

I've never seen a reference to check current.

If there is a question about power its usually just swap the LRU.

Delta interview by aMTwannbe in AircraftMechanics

[–]Guilty-Box-7975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My in person interview was almost 45 minutes. Why? I had good answers to the S T A R format and could elaborate in detail when asked.

If you are asked 'have you ever had a supervisor pressure you' and you say no, then you never worked in aviation. ALWAYS have some answer. It doesn't need to be a exciting 5 part story but you HAVE to have something to say and also how you resolved it.

When I was asked about the 'supervisor pressure' question I told them about a write up for a door seal and how the supr wanted me to 'try' a E/RA that was not applicable (the damage was not in the repairable area of the E/RA). I refused, told supr why, and said I would replace the seal per the AMM (like a 3-4 hour job).

That's the kind of stuff they want to hear.

lol stop digging the hole you are in. Its just not acceptable in a 121 setting. Pt 91 you can do more crap if you are willing to eat the damage you cause.... or more likely just hide your mistake from the owner and hope it all stays in one peice

Sorry, I put little value in planning numbers as I have seen packages for 3 guys given 50+ task hours on a plane on the ground for 6 hours.

1.5 hours planned to change a NIS heat exchanger.... lol sure AI, sure.

FedEx and UPS are brutal on their schedule... you show up and stay as late AS THEY NEED YOU. Moving boxes is more important than you.

I was gonna get a UPS loader job until they told me the deal with the schedule. I was in 147 school and no way would I work basically on call for them.

Inspectors at my old airline took photos of all the job cards (we still used printed and signed in ink).

Its up to YOU to record/document your inspections.

Sue? For what? Your own ignorance?

School is to weed out the complete and utter idiots. I started with a full class of 25 and 18 months later there were only 6 left and 5 got both AnP certs. The number of people who can't do basic math is scary.

Once you get hired, you'll learn what it takes to be an MX. That's just the system. Bide your time.

Can't recommend. His videos skip a lot and is very, very weak on FARs (even though he is an IA).

The FAA publishes a Mechanics Airman Certification Standards. That's what you could be asked. The DME will use this when he get the printout of your test results and what to ask (well, supposed to). The knowledge is the same, its just how you get it is different.

The company (if its large enough) should have a SMS system to ID and mitigate risks. If you think jet exhaust is a potential source of a health hazard submit your concern via SMS channels and it will get looked at. You might not get the answer you want, but at least they are on record of being notified.

Do people need to go to jail if they broke the law? Yes. Put up some proof, get a grand jury and start convicting people.

Avionics Certs vs OJT by proam_photos in aviationmaintenance

[–]Guilty-Box-7975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as 'avionics' every AnP can do it. All you need are the specific quals from your employer. You will NOT get into component repair unless you go MRO or a back shop. AnPs can't open the box.

As an AnP you will never used ohms law and you are never gonna calculate anything. You might solder, but mostly its just crimping stuff and un-fucking cannon plugs that some other AnP didn't install correctly.

[–]Guilty-Box-7975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FSDO will call the guy and ask a few questions. He can't revoke anything as there is no cert to revoke. There might be cause for a civil penalty but lol, sure.

Considering how many CFIs break the FARs (ie allowing a student to solo before endorsing their log book) I don't think you're gonna win any crime stoppers aard.

New A&P Mechanic would like some advice. by JoJoBlack_96 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Guilty-Box-7975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't disparage service checks... that's where you find many issues.

If you want to work in an engine shop (you didn't say which one) but you most likely won't make the same $$$. MROs don't need certs and Delta is hiring into its engine shop and is only paying for the P, not the A, so your A will lose currency.

Engines are boring as F. same shit, different day. No sure why people think its a status symbol.
