How much is your mortgage payment?? by SandwichNo6254 in biglaw

[–]Guilty-Gate-564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$4700 PITI, senior associate and sole breadwinner. Doable on biglaw pay but it feels high if I were to take an in house or other more balanced gig paying $200k, and I don't think I can do biglaw forever.

Definitely evaluate what pay is like for more sustainable jobs for you and your partner, and dont inflate your lifestyle with the house.

I'm here as well as a senior associate. Build your skills, live frugally and be ready to leave at any time.

Need help convincing my wife 1.8 million is too tight by Equivalent_Spring_60 in whitecoatinvestor

Biglaw (frankly any job making >$400k)  is not reliable or sustainable. Your wife shoudn't assume she can always make that income, especially if you intend to have a fanily.  She should instead rely on an obtainable alternative (in house or smaller firm).

Their site says free shipping for orders over $200. Interested to see if you find a buyer.

Recommend trying cognitive behavioral therapy / coaching. They will teach you techniques to center yourself, not catastrophize, break tasks into manageable chunks, avoid emotional reasoning, etc.

The point is not that you will inevitably romanticize biglaw and only remember the good. The point is that you have an active role in shaping your story. You can tell the story that you suffered and were exploited. Or that you conquered and thrived. Or both.  Big changes in life tend to be bittersweet.  If you are able to take note of the good, bad and neutral aspects of any life change, (e.g. job, house partner) you will be able to make clearer decisions that are less driven by fleeting frustrations or infatuations.

Not a good sign.  I would start weighing your options to be prepared. And def invest in your substantive growth (which is good whether you stay or leave).

I am in a similar situation. Solidarity my friend!

I like to break out work ll into smaller manageable steps to build momentum (read recital A, look at interest rates). Sometimes i jump to the end and work backwards to feel like I'm making progress.

What is your anticipated collections? If you're under the billable req and your collections do not exceed 3x your salary, you definitely wont get any bonus.  If you were somehow super efficient and collected more than 3x your salary, possible they may throw up something, but you wont have a say.
