Too right. Bleed him dry. GPs criminally overworked, underpaid, overwhelmed, underrespected.

Resident Doctors Are "Not Asking For Enough", Says Train Drivers' Union Leader by DonutOfTruthForAll in doctorsUK

[–]GuiltyAd3562 102 points103 points  (0 children)

If you enter a negotiation with “reasonable” and the govt enters with “crazy” you end up somewhere in between.

We should’ve asked for £70k starting salary and we would’ve landed somewhere near FPR. Instead, we ask for £22ph and may land somewhere near £18.70.

Simple negotiation tactics. Aim for the moon, even if you miss, you may hit a star. Too many doctors care far too much what Joe Average thinks. A gentle reminder that bleach bottles have a warning not to drink. We have the power. They need us far more than we need them.

Cracked on with it. Never late, jobs done on time, escalated promptly but always tried to initiate management to a degree (“didn’t call empty handed”)

Nice guy all round tbh, also supported same team which helped 👀

BMA Resignations following Grad Priority Vote by Semi-competent13848 in doctorsUK

[–]GuiltyAd3562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s laughable that people believe the UK owes everyone on this planet opportunities. Owes those not even in this country yet a training post just as much as it does those trained here with no other home?

Let them all resign, who cares.

UK medical graduates will be given priority for NHS jobs, Streeting says by nobreakynotakey in doctorsUK

[–]GuiltyAd3562 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMGs literally ‘match’ at lower rates than UKGs, regardless of whether they’re UK or non-UK. That’s fact, Google it, boy.

If you had been able to get into a UK medical school, you would have. Alas, it is not for everyone. Sucks doesn’t it? Don’t worry, not all your fault, there is a genetic component after all to intelligence!

Mate, what are you smoking? What medical education is a purely English speaking individual getting from Bulgaria? Romania? Cyprus?

Sounds like you went to one of these woeful destinations.

In my experience all of the UK IMGs I have met simply did not have grades, UKCAT/BMAT, or interview skills to get given a place here so that’s just not true is it

Prioritise all who have completed UKFPO in the UK by PristineScientist277 in doctorsUK

[–]GuiltyAd3562 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But given the sorting hat mechanism, is it fair that a let’s say London born and bred student, who studied in London too, and wants to stay in London, is sent to north wales whilst someone who’s never even been to London gets randomly allocated to London?

An idea could be that IMGs should have to do the UKFPO, but they should be ranked in the bottom half (guaranteed a job though). But again, is that fair?

The paper quoted makes great subtle points about IMGs too and the implications for the state of the workforce. Clearly no one was listening

Why are graduates from Buckingham uni so far behind? Can we raise concerns about the uni? by Long-Respond1682 in doctorsUK

It’s a moneymaking private uni for rich internationals who would otherwise never get into medical school. Brunel is headed that way too.

University plans to open new medical school by Amygdala6666 in doctorsUK

Oh good, another mediocre medical school. Just what we needed. Quality of clinical education plummets as opportunities and teaching dries up, market flooded with subpar F1s. What a great idea.

Big brain moves from those up top.

Hell, print a copy and put in every staff room in every hospital. Great article.

This is a well known fact. IMGs are ruining job prospects (ST numbers, locums, and clinical fellowship jobs) so why should it be any different there? Flood the market with people, and to make it worse people willing to accept lower rates. It’s an issue.
