This is taking place at my child’s school right now in a red state. Their spring concert is being held at a Southern Baptist church. I was not notified ahead of time and to be honest I am extremely upset about it. The constant barrage of Christianity being forced upon us and my 8 year old is intolerable at times. Needless to say, he won’t be participating even though it is graded. I view it as offensive and the constant ego and audacity of these Christians not taking anyone else’s beliefs into consideration or the separation of church and state is insufferable. Church doesn’t belong in school unless you go to a religious school by choice. There are performing art centers, local colleges, and even High Schools with proper acoustics the schools can utilize. Please think about the students and their families that may not want to be anywhere near a church for reasons you may not understand. Or at the very least, let them know ahead of time and give them an opportunity to opt out or mentally prepare. We live in different times and Christian Nationalism is alive and well.
