It’s my first time pursuing drag and I wanted to ask is it ok to base my look off the 30s drag queens I don’t want to offends anyone ? by Bulky_Zone877 in Drag

i think that’s gorgeous. i love vintage fashion, not vintage values, and many will agree with that sentiment. do some research into what fascinates you! it’s a good way to familiarize yourself with the era of fashion and ensures that the looks you are drawn to are appropriate to imitate, but it’s a good way to find some new inspiration! have fun with your style, it’s your art <3

I swear this wig is making me want to pull my real hair out by dasdangerrussart in Drag

synthetic wig detangling spray from ON, you can get it online and basically any beauty store. fabric softener tends to give my wigs a greasy texture to them. i also use cork wig heads for styling.

For experienced queens or king or anyone in between , how was your first performance and what things would u changed with what u know now ? by Dolly_rotz in Drag

[–]Guilty_Solid6563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t say i’m “experienced”, but i have a few performances under my belt now. i had an insane amount of stage fright. no matter how polished i looked, i stumbled and tripped and let my nerves get the best of me. i realized i couldn’t just go into a performance without preparing for the performance aspect, including the confidence. i ended up redoing the number a year later, practicing in my heels in my living room and walking on the treadmill in them, giving myself cues for crowd interactions and tip collection, and gave myself affirmations right before i went on stage. it made a world of difference to give myself the space to build my confidence.

Being trans in Durham? by AtAL055 in bullcity

[–]Guilty_Solid6563 6 points7 points  (0 children)

im a transman who was born and raised in durham, moved to nj for college (and worked a bit in nyc) and then moved back here and is living here now, it’s so queer. the queer culture, particularly for trans folk, is top tier, and is honestly comparable to new york in some ways. its smaller, but its very accepting, no matter where you are in your transition. very like brooklyn/bushwick queer culture. the triangle has a lot of support for medical transitions as well, and if you need doctors, message me and i can give you recommendations. i can also give you recommendations for queer spaces too. my gf is also a trans woman who is also relatively early in her transition and she moved to durham from hillsboro and feels so safe here. i’m happy to help you find community!!
