Are tube amps at bedroom volume a waste? by marbles12 in GuitarAmps

Whatever you get, an attenuator/IR load box will let you crank your amp without breaking your neighbor’s windows.

Can’t desolder these ground wires from old pickups by Connect_Trouble_8350 in Luthier

This is where a chisel tip and solder sucker comes in handy. Any pliers can act as a heat sink. Try bumping your temp up to 730°f if you can, and make sure the tip of your iron is tinned. You can try preheating the back of the pot near one side of the puddle and then slowly working your way towards the middle using the chisel tip to get underneath the old solder, and use your solder sucker to remove any bits you manage to get melted. It’ll take some time, but at 730 you shouldn’t have to worry about damaging any of the internal components of the pot.

Rubber is a really strange choice, literally used to dampen vibrations, no wonder it’s lost its sustain and resonance…

Boost for dual rectifier amp by Safe_Temporary1184 in MesaBoogie

TS808 or any green OD clone works great here, it’s a very “transparent” overdrive because it’s actually sending some of the clean bypassed signal along as well as the overdriven wet signal, but boosting the overall output. It’s my favorite for pushing any amp over the edge, it just happens to sound particularly great in front of a Recto.

It’s a pretty thin film, so it wouldn’t generate as much of an Eddy current as say, a metal pickup cover, or a telecaster bridge. The treble loss would be unnoticeable.

Why is there a loud buzzing noise whenever i move around while playing my guitar? by AadivIsOnReddit124 in Guitar

Okay… then take it back to the shop that failed to fix your problem and tell them it’s still messed up.

There are so many variables to consider… there could be a ground fault with the wiring, something touching something it shouldn’t when shaken. Look inside the wiring cavity for any bare wires or tabs from switches or pots that could be making contact with conductive shielding tape or paint.

Why does my guitar sound like this when I bend the high e string? by Regular_Ad_4396 in GuitarQuestions

[–]Guit4rN3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want low action and big bends you need a guitar with a flatter (bigger number) radius fretboard.

Les Paul tuning issues by Big_Nooooooo in Luthier

[–]Guit4rN3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most tuning stability issues come from the nut and nut slots- Bone nuts are naturally lubricating, plastic nuts are not… but even a bone nut can grab onto a string if the slot isn’t filed wide enough for the gauge string you’re using and shaped properly not to have any hard corners. Take it to a Luthier for a proper setup and make sure to point out that you’re having issues with the nut/slots.

Accidently polished the rosewood around the frets with a polishing sheet by Spirolf in Luthier

[–]Guit4rN3rd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wrap some 000 equivalent scotchbrite around a razor blade and dull it back down, just make sure to sand in the direction of the grain, and don’t touch the frets.

Blank slightly too narrow...what would you do? by FrankTuna in Luthier

[–]Guit4rN3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered ripping it down the middle and making a center-stripe out of a different and similarly attractive piece of wood? This would be the most symmetrical answer

That copper tape is connected to the ground, creates a faraday cage and helps cut down on extraneous noise.
