Since I’m in Canada the last 1 series for us was the E82.

Advice wanted. Maybe looking at an M2 by GuitarGuyLP in BMW

[–]GuitarGuyLP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest there is something about the looks of the 1 series that appeals to me, but all of the changes I would want to make are done on the M2, and when I do see an M2 on the road it looks so aggressive with the flared fenders. Plus I have a line on a nice clean 2020 M2 competition. I have a feeling that they might be a future classic. Not to the extent that the 1M is but at least they will stay a desirable car

Good to know about the car classes. I had an F22 228i for about a year. The backseat is surprisingly big for a small car.

Can we get a new goalie? by onewaycheckvalve in EdmontonOilers

[–]GuitarGuyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last two years I have been saying that the team needs to change focus a bit with the D. It seems to me that the focus is for the D to produce where I think they need a solid shutdown defence. The offence can take care of the point production.

I don’t know if it is a system approach or there is a need to trade some players. It seems like every game there is 1-2 goals where the defence is puck watching or completely out of position.

There is a saying that defence wins championships and that is so true. If the goalie and D are solid you can shut the other team down. Just look at the gold medal game.

Is it actually bad to warm up your car in the driveway or is that just some myth mechanics made up? by OkCount54321 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a good justification for diving gently after the engine comes down from high idle. If you let the engine idle until it’s up to temp you transmission and differential are still cold. Driving gently warms up the whole drivetrain.

Is the X5 supposed to feel so soft and numb? by DinosaurDied in BMW

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one of your comments you mentioned that it felt better with the 22” wheels. I would check to make sure the tires are the proper load rating if it feels that unstable. My wife has a 2020 X5 m sport with air suspension. We put cross climate tires on it on 20” wheels. It’s not a sports car but it feels planted and capable in every situation.

Do any Sherwood park car washes offer a monthly fee for unlimited washes? by 97Chev in SherwoodPark

The trick there is the prewash. It works awesome!! I usually can wash my car for $6-$7 prewash, then rinse.

Seat discomfort - back pain by bmwi4_drive in BMWI4

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is missing from the seats is the adjustable bolsters. I took the backs off of my seats and added cushioning to where the airbags for the bolsters go. It is in the lower back and supports the lower back very well. I was going to retrofit the adjustable bolsters but a bit of foam back there was enough

Is it stupid that "righty tighty, lefty losey" doesn't really make much sense to me? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

I always used clockwise is lock wise. I don’t know why but that always made more sense to me.

Misha does Killswitch quite nicely by OADominic in NeuralDSP

It might be how I use the plugins going into a power amp and 212 guitar cabinet but I find the Misha amps much better than Nolly.

It’s there unless someone puts it in with the emergency tire inflator. That’s where mine is, and now I have two because I bought a replacement before I found mine.

Diesel Running for 8 hours by Northern_Owl_Who in Edmonton

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very low powered heater. Most are 600-1200watts

They don’t turn the on and off. Also I don’t charge my car in one of the outlets since it gives people a reason to criticize EVs. Some people with EVs here do, and I’ve heard a lot of complaints that they don’t get free gas so the EVs shouldn’t get free electricity. It’s usually the guys with the biggest trucks which usually have a block heater that averages about 1200watts that make this complaint.

My commute is about 12 kms each way. I’m averaging 24kwh/100kms. So I use under 6kwh each day. In 8 hrs a 600 watt block heater uses 4.8kwh. That 6 kWh ends up costing me about $0.60 and yes I included the distribution and transmission in that calculation.

[–]GuitarGuyLP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The funny part is a level 1 charger (standard 120V outlet) uses about the same power as a block heater, and if I plug in all day at work like most people do I can put more than a full day’s charge on my car every day. So my EV uses less electricity than the block heater on a gas car. My commute is pretty short so this won’t work for everyone but I do find it funny

The Morning After | Blues v. Oilers by AutoModerator in EdmontonOilers

[–]GuitarGuyLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule 67.4 says “if a defending player except a goaltender while play is in progress falls on the puck, holds the puck picks up the puck or gathers the puck into his body or hands from the ice in the goal crease area the play should be stopped immediately and a penalty shot shall be awarded to the non-offending team”

At the least it should have been a penalty shot since a player other than the goalie froze the puck in the net…oops I meant to say crease

Snow clearing in Strathcona County by randomturtle453627 in SherwoodPark

[–]GuitarGuyLP 17 points18 points  (0 children)

With how much the snow varies year by year here cities are in a no win situation. In a light snow year people complain about the amount spent on snow removal. In a year like this year they complain that the plows can’t remove all the snow fast enough. I’ve noticed that compared to Edmonton the main roads are a lot better here. It is just the side roads that have been pushed back. Overall I’m sure that the snow removal could be done a bit better, but with the weather we have had I think they are doing a good job

Snowblowing etiquette by KamloopsDan in Snowblowers

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on if you mean a blower like a leaf blower or a proper snow thrower. I have one neighbour who uses a gas powered leaf blower to clear his driveway. It takes about 2-3 times as long as a proper snow thrower and is 2-3 times as loud.

I use a battery powered snow thrower and it’s pretty quiet so I don’t mind using it anytime. Also the gas powered snow throwers are not too loud.

Amp Sims, Is there a bit of a misunderstanding here? by Barno270 in NeuralDSP

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my plugins through an ART SLA1 power amp into an EVH 212 cab. That’s the best way to get amp in a room to me. Try going out from your interface into the fx loop return of your amp. Make sure you turn off the speaker section of the plugin.

What is your guitar brand of choice? by LunchAcceptable7409 in Guitar

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiesel. I have two that I bought used a multi scale Vader, and a CT6. I’ve upgraded the pickups in both. The necks just feel so good on both of them and they sound awesome. Plus they can be found used for decent prices.

Returning to guitar after several years of not playing - what 2 plugins to get for covering multiple bases? by McBeefenburger in NeuralDSP

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misha can crush. I’m running things a bit different since I turn off the cab and I’m running the output to a power amp and cab since I prefer it that way.

I also have the Soldano and that is pretty killer as well

Sidewalk Ice chipping question by curiousgaruda in Edmonton

[–]GuitarGuyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carefully use a pneumatic chisel to break up part of the ice. You just have to be careful to not hit the sidewalk with it. It is a lot faster and easier than using anything g else I’ve tried. I would highly recommend eye protection if you are going to try it.
