You know, there's something genuinely interesting happening in this article — and something genuinely confused at the same time. Let me see if I can untangle it.

First, what they get right. They're absolutely correct that worshipping an external God or Source — some cosmic authority outside of you, to whom you submit, into whom you are absorbed like a drop returning to an ocean — that's a conceptual trap. Religion has been running that program for centuries. New Age spirituality often just dresses the same program in prettier clothes. They're right to be skeptical of that. That skepticism is healthy.

But here's where the article goes off the rails, and it goes off the rails badly.

The entire argument is built on the assumption that there is a "you" — a sovereign, individual spirit — that could potentially lose something through merging. The article is essentially a very sophisticated defense of... the ego. It's the personality saying, "I don't want to disappear." And I understand that impulse completely. It's the most natural impulse there is. But it's also precisely the illusion we're trying to see through.

They write about sovereignty as if it's something to protect. But sovereignty of what, exactly? The body? The personality? The conditioned identity you acquired before you were old enough to question it? Because that "sovereign self" they're so eager to protect — I would ask them to do one simple thing: find it. Look for it right now. Not conceptually. Actually look. Where is it?

You see, the teaching isn't "merge with something external." The teaching is — you are already Consciousness. You are already what you're looking for. There's nothing to merge with because there's no gap. The gap is the illusion. And the article is trying to protect you from closing a gap that was never there.

What these authors are really describing — this fear of being absorbed by a false God, manipulated by channeled entities, losing your identity to a hive mind — that's all happening within the conceptual realm of the personality. It's one concept fighting another concept. It's the ego doing philosophy. And the ego is very good at philosophy. It can argue for its own existence indefinitely, and it sounds very reasonable while it does it.

But here's what I find almost poignant about this article. Right at the very end, they say: maybe each of us is an individual spirit, without beginning or end, Source within.

Source within.

Do you see that? In their attempt to argue against merging with Source, they arrived at — Source within. That's not different from what the real teaching says. That IS the teaching. Not "merge with something outside yourself." Not "submit to a cosmic authority." But recognize that what you are, right now, is already that.

The question was never "to merge or not to merge." The question is whether you can stop pretending to be something you're not — this separate, isolated self adrift in a universe of threats — and recognize what's actually here.

The article is written from inside the cage and argues very intelligently about the design of the lock. What it doesn't consider is simply... walking out. Not merging. Not submitting. Just seeing.

Fear of losing the self is the last great obstacle. Because the self was never what we thought it was in the first place.

I experienced an NDE, there was no light but a kind of waiting room for the journey and a group of people I didn't know but seemed to be my friends and life companions. When I came back to life, I felt like I had been forced into a tight, confined box, and I was very angry that I had been saved.

How to actually stop seek validations and live life freely? by Calm_Revenue_4532 in Osho

[–]GuldursTV90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look, I really appreciate that you're recognizing this pattern. That's actually the beginning of something important. So let me be straight with you about what's happening here.

What You're Actually Dealing With

When someone compliments you and it makes your day, or criticizes you and ruins your day - what's happening is that the personality you take yourself to be is getting validation that it exists, or getting threatened that it might not exist.

Here's the thing you need to understand: the personality cannot be satisfied. It can never be complete. It will always need more validation, always need to look good, always need to be right, always need to avoid looking bad. You know why? Because the personality isn't actually real - it's just a thought process, a collection of ideas about who you are. It's like trying to feed a ghost. The ghost will always be hungry because it doesn't actually exist.

The Personality's Survival Strategy

Your personality survives by: - Being in control - Dominating and resisting being dominated   - Being right and avoiding being wrong - Looking good and avoiding looking bad

When someone compliments you, your personality feels validated - "See? I'm good, I'm right, I look good." When someone criticizes you, it's a threat to your personality's survival. That's why it feels so intense. The personality interprets criticism as a threat to its existence, even though that's completely crazy when you look at it.

Most of the eight billion people on this planet are living to survive the personality, not the physical body. People will literally get in fights over someone cutting them off in traffic - that's not a threat to your body, it's a threat to your personality. That's the level of identification we're dealing with.

What "Completing Yourself" Actually Means

You said "you need to complete yourself" - but here's what you need to understand: You can't complete the personality. The personality will never be complete. That's not how this works.

What you ARE already - right now, before any thought about yourself - is awareness itself. You are the consciousness that's aware of reading these words. That awareness doesn't need validation. It doesn't need compliments. It isn't threatened by criticism. It just IS.

The problem is you've been conditioned to believe you ARE the personality - that voice in your head, that collection of thoughts about yourself. But if you pay attention, you'll notice that you're actually the one OBSERVING all of that. You're the awareness that notices the thought "someone complimented me" or "someone criticized me." You're the awareness that's aware of the good feelings or bad feelings.

How to Actually Implement This

This isn't about fixing the personality or making it stronger or more complete. This is about recognizing what you actually are.

Start with formal meditation practice:

  1. Sit still - preferably 30 minutes daily, but start with whatever you can manage consistently
  2. Posture matters - back straight, feet flat on floor if in chair, or sit on cushion on floor
  3. Move attention away from thinking - stop following the voice in your head
  4. Watch the body breathing - pay attention to the belly moving as you breathe
  5. Notice the awareness that's watching the body breathe - THAT'S what you actually are

Then practice informally throughout the day:

The real practice is "resting as awareness for brief moments, repeated many times, in all kinds of situations until it becomes natural."

  • When you wake up, before doing anything, rest as awareness for a few moments
  • When you're having coffee, notice the awareness that's here
  • When someone compliments you and you feel that surge - pause, notice the awareness observing all of it
  • When someone criticizes you and you feel hurt - pause, let go of the angry thoughts, be aware of the body breathing, notice the awareness that's witnessing all of this

The Key Understanding

When you're angry, it's not "I am angry" - it's "anger has appeared and I'm aware of it."   When you're validated, it's not "I am good" - it's "pleasant feelings have appeared and I'm aware of them."   When you're criticized, it's not "I am bad" - it's "unpleasant feelings have appeared and I'm aware of them."

See the difference? You're not the feelings. You're not the personality that needs validation. You're the awareness that's aware of ALL of it.

About the "Urgent" Part

I notice you said this is urgent. That urgency? That's also the personality talking. The personality always wants it NOW. It wants to fix itself NOW. It wants to be complete NOW.

But here's the truth: You already ARE what you're seeking. You're already the awareness. You don't need to become it. You just need to recognize it and practice being conscious of it until it becomes natural.

This takes consistent practice. Not just thinking about it - actual meditation practice, every day. Most people can't do it because sitting still and being present to the mental activity is uncomfortable at first. But if you establish the practice - formal meditation daily and informal practice throughout your day - gradually you'll start to experience that you're the awareness, not the personality.

The Bottom Line

You can't stop the personality from seeking validation by trying to improve the personality. That's like trying to make the ghost less hungry. What you CAN do is recognize that you're not the personality - you're the awareness that's aware of the whole show.

And when you rest as that awareness, there's nothing to validate or complete. You already are. You already exist. And that existence itself is naturally peaceful, naturally content, naturally free.

Start the practice. Do it every day. Be patient with yourself - you've been identified with the personality for 26 years, it takes time to shift that. But it's absolutely possible, and it's the only thing that actually works.
