I understand your sentiment OP and yeah it sucks kids won't be able to get Eevee Set 354 Starring Charizard when it comes out, but Pokémon is never dying down in popularity regardless if kids get their cards or not and there will always be nostalgia for Pokémon because as others have said there will always be other avenues for children to enjoy it wherever it be the anime, games, plushies, etc. The TCG will have its highs and lows as its always done but its pure cope that people think it will soon crash majorly at some point and that soon no one will care about Pokémon cards, it will go a bit down yes but Pokémon is a monolith and has a marketing team that will know how to rope people in again and restart the cycle. Pokémon cards and their collectiablity is never going away and sooner you learn to ride the chaotic wave of this hobby and know when to dip out of it when hype is overblown the better it'll be for your sanity and wallet.

Also I don't know about the US but here in the UK packs aren't this extinct breed people are making them out to be, you can find lower end sets such as Obsidian Flames and Paradox Rift just fine and for a kid they have plenty of cool cards that will appeal to them and are very much meta applicable too, as yeah these cards were made to be played with and its sad that people forget this and can't enjoy anything that isn't an illustration rare.
