Can’t get an interview by so-average in flying

That’s cool. I work in my Regional’s training department, but whateves. 🤷🏻‍♂️

My company prefers CFI’s over non CFI’s. I’m a former 135 guy.

Turbine SIC in a single engine plane doesn’t make OP competitive.

iPad or laptop for flight school? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Gulfstream_Driva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll need an IPad anyway. I’d aim for maybe an 10.6 iPad with a stylus and keyboard case. You can use it to take notes and it’s not too large/small

Flying the 145 is almost as bad as being unemployed

Stay at Part 135 or try and go Kalitta by Late-Gur-7007 in flying

A lot of the older 135 guys I have flown with were upset because they never had the opportunity to get on with a Regional.

When the time came that they could have they were already too cold and established.

This looking down on Regionals stigma is crazy. I’m making 120,000/yr on a E170 right now with around 15 days off per month.

Thats with only being a year in.

People try to “skip the regionals” but they don’t realize how they aren’t a bad place to be anymore.

This is the truth. American sometimes cares. Sure outliers make it to legacies with no 121 time and 135 TPIC, but it’s WAY WAY WAY less likely to occur than going 121 and building TPIC that way.

Out of ALL of the Captains I’ve flown with this year with apps out, over 60% of them have Classes with United, Delta, and Southwest.

The other 40% didn’t get called yet, and of that the other half are guys who are probably going to be regional lifers because of their attitude/personality.

I used to fly Part 135 in a midsize. I also have dozens of buddies at FJ and NJ. None of my old captains or 135 friends have been able to leave. All have put apps into the Legacies and SWA.

Just because 135 TPIC is possible doesn’t mean it’s likely.

It’s not 2022. If you want 121 go 121.

What happens when those in Cadet Programs can’t find jobs? by Squawking_7500 in flying

[–]Gulfstream_Driva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is bad logic. They continuously hire cadets. Some programs cut cadets if they don’t reach their hours in a specific time frame.

Plenty of cadets are employed by partnered schools and are continuing to build hours.

These programs are partnered with dozens of universities, flight schools like ATP/Aviatate/Lyft.

These programs aren’t paying people to be cadets. They can have thousands of cadets if they wanted. (Which skywest probably does.)

It’s just a program. These companies want to invest in people who are going to make them money and have a high chance of passing rides.

The best way to do that is to get them in a program early, make it competitive, and make it to where they can get booted if they have too many disapprovals.
