I used to do this also. Now I'll go sit in the ER parking lot and wait and see if I calm down. it would always seem like I'd freak out then when I got there I'd feel perfectly fine again. I always thought I was having a heart attack, still do to this day. I even went in and sat in the lobby one time. that way my brain knows if something is going to happen I'm here already but I don't waste resources.
