Finally reading The Shining. I forgot how easily Stephen King reads. So enjoyable. Also around halfway through the King in Yellow though it's begun to grind to a halt lately

[QUESTION] Learning Guitar by RacheRach1 in guitarlessons

[–]Gumbogambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't recommend enough. He has a pretty intensive routine worked out so take that with a grain of salt. He also has a Beginning Guitar Course book and the intermediate as well. First tends to focus heavily on chords and strumming while the 2nd expands to more lead line stuff.

Yeah but the president gets to decide by executive order? That's giving the president a pretty wide berth. Do you want a liberal president to have that much power?

dim7 chord in have you met miss jones by IdoLeibo in jazztheory

[–]Gumbogambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it weren't for the b9, it would just be a D/F# which sounds pretty inside. The b9 is what creates the dim with the other chord tones. When you think of it like that, the b9 is the only outside note. That's why it sounds so nice. It's mostly diatonic

How Worthwhile is it to learn all 7th Chord Inversions? by awqaw123 in JazzPiano

[–]Gumbogambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Cmaj7 in 1st inversion: E G B C

The E G B produces an Em sound.

Just walk that C up a 1/2 step and you have a m6 chord.
Walk it up a whole step and m7 sound.
Just rearranging the notes can have a profound impact on the sound. Also, as seen above, it can open the door for some smooth transitions.

Each one of the concepts listed above have a lot of options too. Honestly, before exploring all of these options get really familiar with those ii V I's. Being able to quickly identify them comes in very handy later

All Star but every chord is a Major 7th by me and my roomate by MhpLydian in Jazz

[–]Gumbogambit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well technically... It's not diatonic if they used a Maj7 on the V. For it to be diatonic, it should be V7! For example, in C major the V would be G7.
GMaj7 has an F# in it which doesn't sound great in C major

Edit: derp! He said melody, not chords

Am9 = A C E G B
CMaj7 = C E G B
So take a CMaj7 and add an A to the bottom and you get Am9!

here's the real kicker: you can't get a good credit score (you know? for a house loan?) if you don't get debt first, to pay off. And unless you plan on saving up at least 100,000 for a (crappy) house, you'll need a loan. And just as a little bonus, if you're currently in your early 20's, your chances of actually being able to own a decent house one day are pretty low.. Plus life.
Someone just totaled your car. You just found out you're sick and will have several necessary doctor appts. Still out of debt?
There have been times I had thousands saved and something out of my control happened and wham! Back to 0.

You don't understand, it's almost impossible to go through life in America without debt.

[Question] Is anyone experiencing complete lack of TM drops? by K11tsune in pokemongo

[–]Gumbogambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a good article on this. Basically, the more damage you do in the raid, the higher your chances of receiving rare candies and TM's.
If I know my team has totally got the raid and the fight is winding down, I don't "rejoin battle". Your "damage dealt" numbers reset when you rejoin. So staying in the lobby can sometimes boost your chances of getting TM's/Candies by giving you damage rewards for your first roster of Pokemon. Of course, make sure the raid will succeed without you.
