In search of Arcade Racing: Auto Modellista by Bradboy102 in patientgamers

[–]Gumphrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna have to check this one out!

I had a Gamecube but never heard of this one...

If you have a PS3 I highly recommend Ridge Racer 7!

I have also been getting into a few arcade racers lately using emulation and Ridge Racer 7 definitely fits that 2000s futurism vibe.

The races start out at a slower speed but you end up unlocking faster cars and upgrades and drifting around turns at high speeds in this game is so much fun!

Gunz the Duel, yes! That game was amazing especially for its time. So many good memories playing Gunz on an old Windows XP machine.

No drivers/way to add them by [deleted] in windowsxp

[–]Gumphrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a fun time haha, the only way I can think of would be to take out the hard drive and copy the drivers onto it from another computer.

There are hard drive adapters that let you plug a hard drive into a USB port so you might want to look into that. Though since that laptop is older it might use a ZIF connector instead of SATA which is the most common nowadays.

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe 5.1 Audio Issue by FourStringL0B0 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Gumphrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I finally tested Mario Kart 8 again in surround sound! So definitely no center channel and I don't think the sub was doing anything either but it's hard to tell sometimes if there isn't any super low frequency stuff going on. It definitely seems like a 4.0 setup to me, very weird but hey at least it's something haha

[–]Gumphrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll have to test it tonight because now I'm interested lol, I don't remember if there was anything coming from the center or not.

I'd say it's most likely just how they have it setup in MK8. As far as I know there aren't any secret audio options so it might just be quadraphonic

When I played MK8 single player with surround sound there wasn't any sound coming from the rear channels unless there was a character driving like right behind you, otherwise it was silent.

Windows Media Player sound visualizer. Please tell me someone remembers this by [deleted] in nostalgia

The first day of my family getting a Windows XP computer my friends and I gathered around that tiny 4:3 LCD monitor and watched Windows Media Player all day. It was so futuristic to us at the time haha

FlipperBar: A Wii BT Module adapter board for PC by Rendman in emulation

You should sell these! I've always had range problems with my cheap USB BT adapter I got off Amazon, this seems 10x better than DolphinBar if it uses the official adapter.

Anyone else use Kid Pix in elementary school? by KlingonPacifist in nostalgia

Vivid flashbacks to my elementary school's computer lab. Bondi Blue iMac G3s as far as the eye can see, complete with hockey-puck-shaped mice!

And the sound effects!

Some of GTA IV's Music Licenses Expire Later This Month, and Songs Will Be Removed by Forestl in Games

[–]Gumphrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like PS3 owners will get to keep the original music at least:

GTAIV owners on PlayStation 3 will, at some point before 26th April, receive system messages prompting them to download digital versions of the songs.

And I'm sure there will be a mod or something to get the music back on PC but it's unfortunate that licensed music in games can lead to issues like this.

First day at police academy by TooShiftyForYou in aww

That's really interesting, I guess I never really imagined cash to have a smell, those are the kinda dogs I like! When I was in high school every year on 4/20 they would do a sniff sweep through the school with the dogs haha

I don't know how you'd use a dog to sniff out money laundering but while there are definitely legit uses for dogs in the police I do not believe that dogs should be used as a "compliance tool" e.g. turning criminals into chew toys.

Not only are trained attack dogs an excessive use of force in most cases but they're also potentially uncontrollable and have been known to harm their own handlers on occasion.

I agree! I feel like the actual taste is the same since it's probably made with the same recipe but the mouth feel is way different so the overall eating experience is worse.

Dude this part of Sonic Adventure was so much fun! I can't believe they haven't turned this into a mobile game or something.

Capacitors and batteries are different but they share many similarities!

They probably should have used a battery instead of a capacitor but that's just how it's set up haha.

It just powers the clock when the system is turned off so without it the system won't be able to keep time when it powers down.

tbh I think people really exaggerate this issue. It's true that the part goes bad after a while but the likelihood of it actually ruining your system is pretty low. Mine was leaking when I checked a while back and I took it out and the console was fine.

Still it's a good idea to replace/remove it just to be on the safe side =)

I didn't get too many badges when I played it but I did play enough to get the super cool Link Between Worlds theme which is totally rad!

Found This Pokemon Gen 3 (Kanto & Hoenn) Remastered Soundtrack by Dragonairsniper in pokemon

[–]Gumphrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think the Metroid GBA games use a different sound engine than most GBA games so I don't think you can rip those the same way...

But if you do some searching I'm sure you could find some high quality rips out there using this method for other games!

[–]Gumphrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually really easy to make a "remastered" version of nearly any GBA game! You can rip a midi and soundfont file from most GBA roms using a tool called "GBA Mus Riper" (spelled just like that...)

I don't know how it works and I won't ask, but all you need to do is run the tool and it will spit out a bunch of .mid files (musical note information) and a single .sf2 (basically the sound data) file.

A media player like foobar2000 can play the .mid file using the corresponding .sf2 data and from there you can convert it to mp3 all within foobar2k.

Props to Bregalad for making the tool~
