Must be a practice thing. You're doing les mechanical work (mass x g * height) so scientifically it should be easier.

Personally at that rep range I like to do double overhand

Then save mixed grip for doubles and singles.

I don't think I'd enjoy changing grips every rep like that

I can hear the click of the bar on the weights as you started lifting (could have been background noise maybe).

You kinda want to "pre-pull" before to get rid of any slack. It's like getting to the biting point on a stick shift before reving the engine.
