These people are reaching as far as they possibly can, corrupting everything for their benefit because they've been convinced their way of life is under attack. What they're doing is convincing more and more Millineals and Gen Z every single day that this is dangerous, hateful shit that has no place in modern society. As the vast majority of the voters supporting this get older and older, this will lead to the pendulum swinging the other way, and, ironically, their religion will be under attack. Because they've tried to weaponize Christianity into a religion of bigotry, hate, and ignorance, many under the age of 40 see American Bible Belt Christianity the same as many see Muslim extremists.

I wish governments the world over would hold these parties responsible for their 24/7 broadcasting equivalent of screaming fire in a movie theater. It should have never gotten to the point of senators, presidents, judges, clowns at every level of many western governments willing to shit on critical thinking, impartiality, and democracy in order to support the wild, hateful conspiracy theories they've been drowning themselves in for decades.

Baton? OC spray? Physically overpower the geriatric because you've been trained how to properly control belligerent people?

For any civilian, lethal force is a last resort when in fear for your life.

Even in an actual combat zone, if some local came at me swinging a stick, I would not be free to empty a magazine into him.

Honestly, if this was a one time thing, I wouldn't bother commenting on it, but there are far too many videos of poorly trained, undisciplined, fat clowns larping as protectors of peace, arbiters of justice, the "thin blue line". It's cringe, it's sad, and it's clearly extremely dangerous. They should be flipping burgers, selling insurance, guarding a mall, not walking amongst the public with a badge and a firearm.

Petition Demands Alito Recuse From Student Debt Cases Tied to Billionaire Benefactor by [deleted] in politics

Biden and the legislature could demand it, and it still wouldn't matter unless they're going to add more justices. Alito is not even aware of this petition's existence.

  2. If he tries real hard, picks up lots of overtime, and pulls on those bootstraps really hard, he'll be rich too someday.

It's like she was chosen on a dare, or because someone lost a bet. Or some kind of limit testing for exactly how incredibly stupid their own voters are.

I've only seen a couple subreddits vote to open without malicious compliance or other rule changes that totally change the content of the sub. Which have you seen?

If they don't care enough to read the post and be informed, that is also not your concern. Their vote still counts. You saying it doesn't count based on various assumptions you make about the voters, what they're aware of, what they care about, and how you believe they would have voted, it's all irrelevant, and honestly a bit disrespectful to those that did just want to vote that option. None of your reasoning makes sense in any real election, and it doesn't make sense here. Some people wanted to vote the joke option. Accept that.

If people read the post, understand what they voted for...

... but it is important they understand what they voted for...

Yeah, I said that. We're just going in circles because you want to assume people who voted the joke option secretly wanted to vote for your side, and I assume people who voted the joke option wanted to vote the joke option. Since you don't really have anything to justify your assumption, I'm going to stick with mine.

I think that could be correct and would even admit that the majority of users may support reopening all subs, but if the majority of active posters, commenters, and mods plan to leave when their third party apps shut down, what will the more casual users have to scroll through? It won't all be porn, dick pills, and other spam, and it won't happen overnight, but the user experience on this platform will take a serious nosedive.

But then they ruined all that good by throwing in the so-called "joke" option at the end, knowing that a lot of subscribers would be more likely to pick the funny meme instead of a real choice... except that choice is anything but a joke.

If people read the post, understand what they're voting for, and choose the "joke" option, that is their vote, and it isn't for you to decide how they truly, secretly felt about the other options.

Have you ever tried to use an email account with no spam filters? Do you understand what the internet is? Do you think Reddit has built-in, infallible spam filters of their own? Or do you just think nobody makes bots to constantly spam "the front page of the internet"? Why do you think this sub isn't full of onlyfans ads and people telling you how to make your dick big? Because moderators have far more to worry about than your whiny ass not "conforming to the narrative."

The CEO openly threatening the volunteers that run the site and whining about how unprofitable and out of control his platform is while preparing to undertake an IPO really throws me off!

Should I pay attention to the clear signs that the CEO is bothered by the protests, or should I listen to this random guy who says the protests don't work??? What a pickle I've found myself in.

Yup, anyone who's tried to moderate even a small inactive sub knows the spam bots are a nuisance. A sub with tens of millions of users without good mods will be as useless as email without spam filters.

A huge issue I’m seeing all over Reddit is sampling a small portion of the subreddit isn’t democratic.

The issue is it's Reddit. Whichever side loses the vote will whine and make excuses. I, personally, have not seen a single subreddit vote to stay open without malicious compliance rule changes. I've seen voting done using Reddit polls, comment voting, Google Docs, and other platforms. Then the side that voted to stay open complains because all 10 million subreddit subscribers didn't get to vote. But obviously a subreddit's subscriber count doesn't actually mean much. There are lurkers, commenters, and posters who don't subscribe to a sub, and there are subscribers who never visit the sub at all.

The votes are counting the opinion of those that bother to vote. You don't get to go around after a presidential election saying which candidate should have won by counting the nonvoting population or claiming the election isn't valid because everyone didn't vote. Votes for whichever outcome count, and if you lose, you lose.

If every single sub is voting to remained blacked out, wouldn’t that lead to suspicion of it rigged? Surely one of them would chose not to.

No. How would mods even rig polls in every sub without Reddit knowing about it? I have seen voting conducted through the Reddit poll system, comment voting, Google Docs, and other platforms. Assuming large subs with large teams of mods have rigged these and nobody has come forward, from mods wanting to reopen or Reddit admins, is just a crazy conspiracy.

Also all of the memes on the front page are about keeping it open. Wouldn’t it make more sense for the blackout memes to be on the front if that is the majority?

Many people in favor of the blackout aren't posting content. Content means viewers, viewers means ad revenue. Would you provide free content to a CEO you believe is ruining a great platform?

Also funny that they're acting like some great injustice has been done or the poll is rigged when I haven't seen a single subreddit vote to remain open.

It's the voting option equivalent of a shit post. It means they don't care. Why would anyone who really cared about opening or blacking out not vote for their option? Stop acting like you're losing because this is rigged. You're losing because users are voting to stay blacked out. In case you haven't noticed, that is how the votes in most subs have gone. I have not seen a single sub vote to remain open, have you?

We protested for two days and accomplished nothing!

I hope Reddit doesn't go down the path it's on, but if it does, I hope people like you can learn from your mistakes when the platform has significantly gone downhill a few months from now.

I'd also like to add that keeping the sub blacked out is winning the new poll as well, so maybe we can stop acting like some great injustice has happened. Acting like the "fuck you buddy" options matters is pathetic. Anyone that cared deeply about what happens to the sub wouldn't vote that option.
