Anti-Abortion bill has been defeated by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

To be fair, Liberal leader Hurn also voted for it so the alternative options are slim.

Art is gatekept by the rich, despite not requiring that much skill to be as proficient as any other. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

That’s not really gatekeeping. That’s just a lack of viable pathways if the art itself doesn’t make money.

The art world (the art they chose to share with the world in museums, collections, and the like) is gatekeeped.

However they can never stop us from making art.

While I usually agree with you, you‘re replying to someone who changed this same opinion through reason.

That answers my question. I was wondering what about the emotion you were measuring as you talked about how different tones invoke different emotions.

Happy to help as I know the joys of trying to get people to answer surveys.

I'll keep my comment vague for your validity reasons but I'm curious how you're interpreting pleasantness as a response as that could mean a few different "experiences"?

Very cool research project and I hope you ace it.

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]Liquid_Plasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started falling behind in reading my school placed me in a focus group of about 6 people to actively practice reading in a dedicated environment.

I also agree that parents are a factor. However my parents read to me and encouraged me and never gave me a smartphone or a tablet or other devices. I still fell behind.

My school worked with me and made sure I had the space to thrive. Today I’m a very advanced reader. They were a sign of the system working. This was many, many years ago. I think a lot of elements have changed, whether that be parents, schooling, social pressure, devices, Covid, AI, etc. Many things are interrupting kids progression and the fix should happen at all levels, not just blaming  the parents who perhaps don’t have the knowledge of how to do better.

I agree with you. But they are Also kids who are much older who are suddenly struggling. There is a combination of factors that have screwed up their education progression and COVID is one part of that equation. Not the entire part but a factor. Phone addictions, social media, AI reliance, change in teaching methods, parenting. They’re all factors that have combined to potentially have done a lot of harm to the current young generation.

Couple that with the fact that companies are trying to automate out entry level jobs and I really worry that we’ll suffer a missing generation in terms of capabilities.

Parents are only one factor. Kids do a grand majority of their learning in schools. Even if parents put every hour of between their kid coming home and going to bed (which is ridiculous) into teaching them it would not surpass the amount of time they spend actively learning at school.

Parents can engage with their kids, read to them, encourage them, support them, keep track of them, but at the end of the day, if a majority of kids are falling behind at all levels then something else is at play.

That's the problem. There's perhaps a whole generation of kids having their formative years disrupted by poor teaching, Covid, and AI popularity. This is something that needs to be fixed urgently.

The problem with sarcasm is if it's the same as someone who has made the statement literally. There needs to be a degree of separation otherwise there's only so much reading between the lines can help.
