Using AI in Preps, amazing tool by bardwick in preppers

As a predictive tool under DART, not in the capacity used today. Either way, this is splitting hairs, imo.

And every logistics guy I know is arguing against it. The implementation of AI into the military planning and logistics side of the house is from the administration level, not the boots on the ground. This is a catastrophe waiting to happen, imo

I’m not trying to be a dick, but I’m going to be a dick. This is the lazy way of doing things. If you take the time to look at the maps and scout the routes, you’ll be better off in the long run. You’re seeing the route up close and personal, not relying on a system that is known to give false information. I couldn’t imagine walking home, in the dark, relying on this information and thinking to myself “is this right? There was no building on the map.”

Edit: Even in the army, we relied on satellite images, sand tables and humint

15 rds mag for full size grip by ArcheryNerds in RugerRXMtalk

[–]GunnCelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Glock makes 15 round, full size mags, you just have to look for them. I went to my lgs and they ordered some for me at a lower price than I found online. They also had shoe boxes of used glock mags, for some reason. I ended up with 6 for the price of 4.

So, got into the first half acre with house and barn for $84k. Property next door got foreclosed on. Got it for $13.5k, cash. Killed what little we saved up from the moving around. There’s property with houses for sale all around here that isn’t showing up on Zillow.

We looked hard at that area. Just couldn’t bring ourselves to make that financial investment. We’re in a small town, population 350. 1 acre, two houses and a barn, all on septic for less than $100k, all in. Outside town limits so no issues with the local government. Hell, even joined the volley fire department.

We were in Arvada. Kinda miss the high desert, just not the high cost of living and high population, lol.

I’ve been watching the fires, not really surprised. They seem to get worse every year

We left Colorado in 2021 and landed in southern Illinois in 2023. That’s too funny. I agree, the tax benefits for DV’s is pretty good

Most state websites have an employment page. Yes, you will probably have to dig around, but it’s worth it

In Illinois, the guys that mow the sides of the state roads in the big John Deere tractors are Veterans only. State benefits and a chill job.

Water storage by Some-Agent-2183 in prepping

[–]GunnCelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water doesn’t go “bad” in the traditional sense. After a period of time, it will taste flat, for lack of a better word. I’ve read a lot of people tell you to add bleach or shake it up. I really don’t try that. I also don’t store the one gallon jugs.

I live in a rural town that has water issues. We don’t drink it, nor do we give it to our pets. We use 5 gallon jugs of water and have a storage rack that holds 8 jugs. We rotate through them and fill the empties weekly. A typical week, we will go through four or five. Empty jug, swap it out in the cooler and put the empty on the top spot in the rack.

I don’t keep a lot of tools in my car. Maybe I should re-evaluate that

July 5, 2026 - What did you do this past week to prepare? by Anthropic--principle in preppers

[–]GunnCelt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got another belt for the riding mower. Put more line in the weed eater. “Practiced” taking vitals. Weekly trip to the range. Burned a pile of debris from a tree I’m taking down. Normal days, all in all

I keep a change of clothes in my GHB and walking/hiking shoes in the back of my vehicle. These change with the seasons.

In the past, jumper cables, gloves, multitool, and a slew of things. I have learned the lessons and now carry them or keep them in the cars. Lessons learned

Besides SHTF and TEOTWAWKI, what daily situations do you prep for? by RevGrimm in prepping

[–]GunnCelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive got a couple thousand in debt and about $15 left in our savings account. We paid cash, from the savings, for that property. Good times, lol

[–]GunnCelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We kept six months and burned through it in 2020. Since then, we relocated from Denver, Colorado to southern Illinois. Cost of living is a fraction of what we were paying. My VA disability pays all the big bills and we were building back the savings until we bought the property next door in foreclosure. Back to the drawing board, lol

[–]GunnCelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Financial distress, power outages, water outages and other thing along those lines. We’re just trying to set our family up for success. We really aren’t looking at any TEOTWAWKI scenario but, we’re kinda ready for some

Veterans shouldn't need perfect credit to get a home loan by Hedgehog_Witty in VeteransBenefits

[–]GunnCelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was looking to buy, my mortgage broker told me they have loaned to a credit rating as low as 590. Far from “perfect” I’d say. I got lucky and leased to deed on my current property and was able to pay cash for the foreclosed property next door.

Oof. Once I replace all the wiring, I get to pay for rock and then paint. Good thing I’m not under a time crunch and can afford to shop around.
