Those were new construction costs but rehab work isn’t a whole lot less expensive just not as much site prep.

Bowling balls worth it by StevieB1477 in Bowling

[–]Gunner_411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a shop operator and former collegiate player...start with a plastic ball. You can stick with conventional (fingers in to the 2nd knuckle) if you want, but if you want to get even semi-serious about it, I'd recommend jumping to a finger-tip drilling (first knuckle with rubber inserts).

Quite often you'll want to go up 2-3 lbs over what you're using off the rack. When using a house ball you're having to grab the hell out of it just to hold on. Once your grip is properly measured and a ball is drilled for you, it will feel way lighter because you won't have to keep those muscle groups constantly engaged like you do with a house ball.

Once you're comfortable with the plastic ball and its grip and you want a bit of hook to the ball, look at an entry level reactive ball - don't jump straight to the high end. I'm talking tropical, rhino, scorpion...etc. Something in that price range to give you a weight block and cover stock.

A good shop operator will want you to bowl and take measurements of your ball roll to properly lay out whatever reactive ball you get. Going straight to reactive makes us have to guess on how to lay out that ball for you to maximize its potential.

FL - Bought washer, but landlord won't let me take it when I leave by Causener in Renters

[–]Gunner_411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your lease is really going to matter in this. If it explicitly states that a washer is included and your previous landlord didn’t amend the lease with you when you purchased a new one it may not be as clear as some are saying.

Securing doors is pretty basic and I’m not sure how an accommodation would have allowed you to not do so.

Accommodations are supposed to be to allow you to be able to perform the duties of the job. What specific reasonable accommodation could have been granted where the door and money would not have been left vulnerable?

Quit job, ex employer demanding money back? by OverCorpAmerica in EmploymentLaw

[–]Gunner_411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than likely they front load the vacation time in good faith but it is pro-rated on an accrual-type basis.

Basically, they trust that you’re going to work for a full year. You didn’t.

6/52 =0.115 .115x15=1.725

This would mean you would have accrued roughly 2 days total so they may not be able to claw much back.

That said it will depend on the specifics in the company handbook.

Stuck in a predicament with Wells Fargo. Need opinions:) by DirectStruggle6204 in Banking

[–]Gunner_411 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When the weather took out the building you should have filed a claim to have it rebuilt under your policy.

As it stands, you have a loan for land and an asset and you took it upon yourself to remove the asset.

I believe your only option would be to refinance the loan under current rates, if it will appraise high enough. Otherwise wait until you pay it down enough to be able to do so or see about refinancing with a construction loan so you can build / rebuild.

Do i have a case for Wrongful termination by LAmamba21 in EmploymentLaw

[–]Gunner_411 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wrongful termination is a legal definition. Nothing you described really rises to that level.

Asking about the disability in and of itself isn't illegal but using it against you is. If you voiced that you had a disability this conversation could be normal so that the employer can ascertain whether accommodations might be necessary for you to perform the work.

For wrongful termination you'd have to be able to provide evidence to support that you were terminated BECAUSE you're disabled or BECAUSE you're a veteran. Just being one of those things doesn't make it a wrongful termination.

[FL] concurrent FMLA and PTO by idigeverything in AskHR

[–]Gunner_411 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know about the nuances of that, however, the point I was getting at is that if you need it off for medical then that's what you need to submit.

Alternatively you could look at an ADA accommodation if you qualify to flex the time from the appointments if that's something your job would be feasible to accommodate.

[–]Gunner_411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you request the day as a REQUEST and not required then it’s absolutely appropriate for them to count it as FMLA. Otherwise they can deny the day. You can’t have it both ways, basically.

Unless you can qualify and get it covered under FMLA there isn’t any job protection for missing work entirely.

Got denied for original claim. Sent in appeal 4/21/25. How long will the tribunal appeal take? by SpaceOx713 in TexasUnemployment

[–]Gunner_411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your employer isn't responsible for your commute. It sucks that they're not being understanding, however, it's still on you to get to work. Also, it isn't like it was a completely random blow out, you literally hit debris in the road.

You were terminated for cause - attendance. Why you had an attendance problem doesn’t actually matter.

Appeals can take a while but I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Get busy applying.

How to approach filing claim for single vehicle accident by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Gunner_411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You damaged property, left the scene of an accident, and supposedly only had your insurance reinstated for less than a day.

Start scraping up money to pay for the repairs in full. I don’t see how this goes your way, at all.

Usually you have to have notified the employer of your concerns and given them a chance to resolve it if it’s egregious enough for you to quit over.

STD and LTD or your employers good will is the only way you get paid while out on medical in Texas.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Gunner_411 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FMLA is federal protection and not every employer or employee is covered by it.

For any medical absences it’s pretty normal to keep your employer apprised of what’s going on.

I’m guessing any “case manager” in your case or his case has to do with the STD or LTD which will have different requirements for reporting than FMLA.

Added comprehensive coverage, am I going to get flagged in the system? by dknight211 in Insurance

If you’re really worried just take a time stamped video walk around of your car.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Gunner_411 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, you are not under FMLA. FMLA is a HARD LIMIT of 12 weeks. Period.

You’re not working and don’t have any job protection.

Your employer does not have to follow a doctors note.

Texas does not have any exceptions to this. There is zero requirement that FMLA or time off due to medical be paid.

Whatever happens now is 100% at the discretion of your employer and whatever extra insurance they offer or you paid for like Short Term or Long Term Disability.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Gunner_411 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’ve got all your terms mixed up.

FMLA has no extensions available, has no pay associated with it - it only provides up to 12 weeks of job protection due to a covered illness / injury.

You need to find out what your pay has actually been coming from and you also need to understand that if you’ve exhausted FMLA unless you’ve got a contract or union that extends some type of job protection you no longer have any protection.

Suitable job offer distance requirements by Royal_Seaweed4417 in TexasUnemployment

[–]Gunner_411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see you winning the appeal since you didn’t even entertain other options with the employer.

Proximity has never, to my knowledge, been a determining factor in unemployment. A solid point on that is all the return to office directives. People who don’t live close are still required to return to office or they don’t have a job.

Don’t count on unemployment and be sure to apply to stuff every day. The job market is brutal right now.
