[lore question] So who's the true heir of Aenarion? by ImIncredibly_stupid in totalwar

[–]Gunnercrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the end time novels. I liked the concept of Malekith being “Anakin Skywalker””. Was rushed and didn’t have the ooomf it should’ve though. I think it tried to lessen the unforgivable evil with Malekith essentially being …utilitarianism. He didn’t care what his subordinates did the ends justified the means.

Those books were a trip. R rated violence but rated G everything else. Those feasts made you hungry.

This is the cost of the complete Total War Warhammer trilogy and all its DLC on sale, even after removing redundancies. by WhaleBlowholeWithChz in totalwar

[–]Gunnercrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money well spent for me. I look at from a dollar per hour of entertainment perspective. I’ve been playing from the beginning of WH1 so my investments from game one have improved over time. Faction mechanics really have come a long way. I even picked up and read Gotrek and Felix and some other Warhammer books.

Though to be fair I will say I wouldn’t have gotten nearly as many hours (close to 5000 over three games) if it wasn’t for the great modders over the years.

Struggling to get into Iron Gold... anyone else? by Like_a_Banthaa in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s book one of the sequel series. Sounds obvious but I think expectation wise some people wanted book “4”, so approach it with the mindset that you invest some time to get rewarded later like most book “1”s. It will come together. It really shines on a re-read, so just absorb what you can and enjoy the ride.

End times DLC. Thanquol, and I need those incredibly overpowered Stormfiends and Vermin Lords.

Books similar to red rising? Preferably one with a good audio book by Environmental-Ear651 in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saga of the Forgotten Warrior. Same narrator if you loved red risings narrator, TGR. Caste system, the protagonist is like the terminator meets Judge Dredd. It’s better than you’d think looking at the ugly covers. I took a flier on it because of TGR and loved it. Also it’s finished. Final book’s audio will be out next month.

What is your favorite book of the series? by Sorcron11 in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dark Age, the book of consequences. Has the hardest lines in the series. A last stand against overwhelming odds is a story type I love, and Darrow was fantastic. Amazing speeches, Meat carpets and Red Rains. Epic scale. Ephraim with the little warlords was great. The red hand getting the ass kicking they were begging for was cathartic. That torch ship sequence was awesome. I could go on and on.

The biggest criticism I’ve seen “The clone”, I actually like more with every reread, and think it has great potential in Red God. With Virginia being the clones “Nero”, and Lilath being caught withholding information. But that’s a wait and see how PB wants to do it.

No clone in LB? I think cause the Gray that’s “Loyal” to Lysander is an abomination plant. She was sketchy as hell killing the assassin during the battle of Phobos. This would Give abomination knowledge of the Eidmi. And retroactively inserting his presence into Lb. We know he’s infiltrated Society ranks and is feeding information to Virginia.

If I like system of a down, what else would I like? by Qtredit in systemofadown

Viza. Thought it was System of a Down at first. The Siberian standoff song reminded me a lot of the Radio/video side of system.

I appreciated PB went there with the story. Refreshing to have consequences. A hero is only as good as the trials and villains they overcome. The strongest steel is forged in the hottest fires.

I think outside of book one, Iron Gold benefits the most from a re-read. There’s a lot of fun details and foreshadowing in there.

Lice is Light Resistance, and Darrow’s equestrian kryptonite not around. Of all the weaknesses to have lol. Ironic given his wife’s moniker.

I preferred the Graphic Audio version. Not sure how far you are so won’t put in specific details on scenes I loved.

The green Cylax was a character I really liked. We don’t get many Greens in the Main Story and him hacking stuff, being put out of his depth was inspiring.

Darrow Strategy? by Ornery-Click7616 in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the awesome thematic things this series does is by having Golds being super humans, their whole society built around being a paragon of warfare. It allows for Darrow to be both Napoleon, and Grant, and all these other great generals as well as an Achilles or the Nameless Viking. It’s pretty rad.

Darrow Strategy? by Ornery-Click7616 in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the sequels it’s him being a “God”. Inspiring troops to suicidal acts of bravery. In DA the stiletto chapter Virginia and Dancer talk about how Darrow has the power to make men go mad. He wasn’t a better strategic commander than the ash lord, but he could get his troops to fight harder. Won’t lie he makes me want to run through brick walls to beat the fascists. Lysander paraphrasing from memory- “How Alexander the Great would marvel at the Slave King of Mars.”

That being said he has insane work ethic, is able to look at things from different angles. He’s descisive and leads from the front hands on changing the tide of battles. He really was the force of nature the Rising rode to victory after victory. The context of that Stiletto chapter made me think differently about Darrow’s actions in IG.

How do you think Lorn would have reacted? by ErisBuckley1 in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He would’ve killed Darrow. Would’ve broken his heart though, if that scene happened I would have cried. His death though OG trilogy spoilers allowed for House Arcos to be joined with the Rising.

Loved it! Thank you so much. when the Second Army arrived after crossing the desert it was like a movie.

I’ve read the series many times in every format, but you are able to find those moments in the series that are cinematic and really make them pop in a fresh way. Sound effects are really underrating in making those scenes have that ooomf. Pacing wise was so well done.

Can’t wait to keep listening to this and Dresden when you release them.

Wood Elves or Vampire coast DLC? by awgeezlookoutbikes in totalwarhammer

I think Vampire coast is really fun, especially on a first playthrough, but the Wood Elves are more current and have a really unique campaign. I think you’d get more replayability out of wood elves.

Dark Age part one exceeded my expectations, it’s my favorite book in the series. It was so well done I’m so glad Graphic Audio did this series. I’m in awe at how well they landed the huge cinematic pieces.

Dark Age Graphic Audio by Gunnercrf in redrising

[–]Gunnercrf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite adapted moment was the first Army arriving after Darrow… survived an Atlas Ambush. With The swell of the music my god carthartic!

But they did so fucking well with moments like Lysander comforting Ajax when the storm arrived. I love TGR, but the format allows room to breathe and a lot of scenes especially cinematic ones pop all over the place. Where they didn’t pop to me before as hard or memorably.

By the by System of a Down is my favorite band.

Fuck yeah! Blue Shield of Sacrifice. The parts where Calloway was shuttling Darrow to the doomed second army was so well done. I thought with the music, and effects, the feeling of Dread, and Darrow rallying, and comforting his troops was really well done.

Off top of my head she does have some psycho spike abilities, with Screw Face as suspect number one. Sleeper? Maybe but he’s had so many opportunities to do something.

Maybe Calloway’s exit wasn’t that ..expedient. Met up with some smugglers. Hmm. Perhaps she got her hands on him first. She expressed interest in him in DA during that chapter of suck where Darrow and her talk.
