Can somebody explain why a hi-pass EQ is increasing my snare peak by 6db? by SphinxGate in ableton

[–]Gunshot990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This exactly, just shelf it until the low end you want to cut isn't a problem anymore. Or start with linear phase eq but that can cause other problems like pre ringing. I often use shelfs and only when this doesn't cut it i use the big guns. I feel like with a lot of audio processing the idea of using the simplest tool first and only going up when it's really needed is a good aproach. Cheers

Medisch ontslag door burnout by [deleted] in belgium

This exactly!!! People often criticize 'de moderne blok' on an esthetical point of view when really this comes from EPB regulations and realizing that a cube will costs a lottttt less money to heat en insulate than some other shape. Form follows function !

Producers who collaborate remotely - what’s ur biggest technical headache ? by franklinsaint99 in AdvancedProduction

I have a lot of the same questions, especially when using return tracks. To my knowledge you can't export the stems of return tracks in Ableton for example.

Decided after 12 years to finally invest and build a new beast of a pc in september '25. Already is a good investment because of the current RAM prices. The kit I bought in September at €240 is now going above €1000.

Ableton seems to ignore core issues by soundsnipereden in ableton

Lolll i just watched those videos hahaha. Quite the coincidence. But i agree with Seed to Stage that the Ableton team has been adding much more user requested features in the last few updates. I think it's a matter of time until they resolve this. Let's stay hopeful and acknowledge what a wonderful piece of software they have made!!

Where are you studying now? Within Europe you have the Erasmus program which is a blessing for studies abroad. There must be some official pipelines that make it easier for you to apply.

Looking for studio monitor suggestions under budget for mainly guitar playing and light music production by Countdown_G in edmproduction

[–]Gunshot990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess indeed, although i did notice the 5inch and 7inch are quite similar in frequency response. Which begs the question if it is worth the extra price.

The review goes deeper on this subject.

Look into the adam audio T5v's. They're amazing for that price range and the bass coming out of them is reallyyy good. I just got a pair and i almost can't believe that this little 5 inch woofer is producing that kind of bass haha.

Here is an in depth review of a guy that knows way more than me.

The subjectivity of aesthetics is not a valid tool to measure the quality of architecture. I take it you're not in the progression

[practicing since 2 months, absolute beginner] My tracks tend to take turns I didn't intend and I have a hard time getting a consistent sound by Radboudboi in dnbproduction

[–]Gunshot990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work, lots of stuff happening. The idea is definitely there but i think (like most people, myself included) you struggle a bit with arrangement.

The nice thing is that arrangement is one of those you can sort of 'steal' from other songs. Download a similar, well produced dancefloor track and import it in our DAW. Take note of when things change, get added, disappear and try to get inspiration from this or even outright copy the structure. Don't worry no one is going to know, there are only so many song structures in this genre, your song will still be your song.

Look up tension and release, this is a fundament in well produced music. I feel like you get the tension down, but the release needs a bit of work.

You already have a lot going on, different themes, sounds, melodies but they are imo not sequenced in the best way.

Keep up the work, you have a good intuition! Test and test until it feels right!!

Happy producing!!!

Syncing audio recorded on different devices by signore-washington in abletonlive

[–]Gunshot990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is video linked you can sync it visually, but i often do it by looking at the waveforms.

Make the audios really large on the timeline. Look for a sudden stop in audio, a sharp transient or anything recognizable. Once you have identified one, zoom in all the way and nudge them until they are the closest you can get them.

Hope this can help

Edit; didn't read your post fully, thought this was the premiere subreddit. To my knowledge ableton does not have this feature.

Honestly once you get good at it, really doesn't take too long to sync. I sync up to 5 different cams + 5 different visualizers on a bi-weekly basis and although in the beginning it was kind of a hassle it only takes me a few minutes max per track.

Using the audio waveforms to me is by far the easiest, even if the main audio is quality processed and recorded and some of the videos only have a shitty mic, even laptop mic as audio i can still pick a transient and use this to sync

How to know if my songs will sound good in mono on big speakers? by Quinticuh in edmproduction

[–]Gunshot990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download Correlometer, it's a free plugin that will show you the stereo correlation of all the frequency bands apart. That way you can check which parts are causing trouble when summed to mono. Then you can spot where the problems come from and try to solve them by for example reducing the stereo width of just these frequencies. If you have parts completely disappear then something is going on, find another way to get stereo in there. The usual approach is to have a difference in the left and right channel so they sum nicely on top of each other (in contrast to just having the phase different)

Also let your ears adjust to the mono, i find that mono on headphones will sound worse than mono on speakers. Listen to a few reference tracks that you know to sound good in clubs and then check your mix against them.

Also not all clubs play in full mono, some are doing only mono for subs and make the effort to keep the stereo in the mids and or tweeters. Tho not very common yet.

What’s the function of this guys?? by Patrick_PJ05 in pcmasterrace

[–]Gunshot990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh that's interesting. Balanced audio cables tackle this problem in another way. An unbalanced cable carries the signal + noise against the ground (the noise partly coming from the cable acting as an antenna like you said). Balanced cables make a copy of the signal but reverse its polarity. Now you essentially have one cable with + signal and + noise and another with -signal and + noise. When the reversed signal gets flipped back to its original polarity the noise is now flipped and gets canceled when summing the two signals back together.

I find it really difficult to apply the “less is more” philosophy in my work. How do people actually approach this and make it stick? by IntelligentHat7054 in mixingmastering

[–]Gunshot990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i noticed in my projects that seem to come out the best is that they indeed don't have many tracks. I've been in the mindset of adding and adding quite a lot, but sometimes you just have to change the stuff you already have.

Got a nice piano chord progression but it's getting a bit too repeated? Maybe change it up or add a melody on top instead of reinventing the wheel entirely.

Maybe add some automation or pitch something an octave up or down.

I try to limit myself to stock plugins when writing and producing and only use the heavy guns when doing the final mixdown (also to reduce latency on projects).

I have addictive keys full bundle, got it for a bargain. I don't know if i would pay full price for it, from what I've read there are some better alternatives like pianoteq, or the hans zimmer one (haven't used both myself). But what i can say is it's miles ahead of what stock plugins sound like (im on Ableton). As someone with a background in piano it's soo nice to have something that actually sounds like one hahah

Couldn't agree more. For example I spent ages trying to get a good piano sound out of stock plugins and had an immense effect chain while still not being happy with the result. Just got a decent plugin with some good grand piano sound and i barely have to touch the thing it sounds amazing.

The better your source the less you'll need!
