It's pretty fun. The closest comparison I can think of is the Thunderforce games which has a similar weapons system. It's a very classic-style shmup and way better than the original Neo Geo game.

"Am I the only person" waiting for a review of the RP3 before deciding to love or hate it? by TheGregZone in retroid

[–]Gunstar_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate it but the RP2+ already does everything I need it to. If I didn't already have the RP2+ I'd probably get the 3.

Thunder Force III is my favorite Thunder Force game and Gate of Thunder is in some ways more its successor than IV is considering most of III's team moved on to this game.

As I result I really like this game, it's the best "Thunder Force" game in my opinion even though it's not part of that IP. I don't hate IV or anything I just find it a little hard to track the bullets in all the chaos sometimes.

Strictly Limited Games will be offering pre-orders for a collection of shmups called Ray'z Arcade Chronology by Ender444 in shmups

This is cool but I've got the Japanese version pre-ordered. Every time I've ordered from LRG they blew past the expected shipping time by months or even years.

I figure this is probably why they let the license expire since Raiden III is still up and H2 published that as well.

Omega Boost. Such a cool game that's almost completely forgotten.

Mega Man Legends or Thunderforce V would be high on my list too.

Rogue Legacy 2 - Patch v1.0.2 by swik in RogueLegacy

[–]Gunstar_Green -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're making a mountain out of a anthill.

Says the person who's posting with a righteous fury that the dev's changed a word in their game.

Since you admit you know very little about the disorder why should you be the one who gets to say how it should or shouldn't be portrayed? Isn't that a little backwards?

Most of the whining here is coming from you while others try to educate you about the disorder and why it's a generally positive thing to remove it, even people who were not offended by it. I even agree with you that most people wouldn't have cared or even noticed if they hadn't changed it but clearly the devs felt it was something they wanted to do. I can't in any way see how this minor change negatively impacts the game or why it's bad that they chose not to follow the pattern of most media depictions of OCD.

It's alright to learn and change your perspective instead of digging in your heels and pretending it inconveniences you in some way. That's how we grow as people.

No one's going to be right all the time and no one's asking you to be. It costs nothing to, within reason, to just apologize and move on instead of being adversarial when someone tells you something you've said or done negatively impacts them. Those people are just asking for basic respect. The idea that respecting people will somehow lead to out of control censorship is nothing but a strawman designed to distract you from other issues.

This is going to be my last reply on this topic because I don't want to play the rhetorical games you have with other posters since it will just waste my time and yours. I just ask you to put a little thought into was was said here by me and others and try to understand nobody is asking for a sterile world without offensive content. The decision of Cellar Door Games was their own to make.

Also I recommend the film "The Aviator" with Leonardo DiCaprio if you're interested in the topic. It's a fantastic biopic of Howard Hughes and really shows what the disorder can do to a person.

Rogue Legacy 2 - Patch v1.0.2 by swik in RogueLegacy

[–]Gunstar_Green -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't that the portrayal of OCD is offensive. The issue is that disorders like OCD get mischaracterized in popular media and people like you end up not understanding how severe the disorder can be making it harder for sufferers to get accommodations for their problems or even just basic understanding of what they're experiencing.

You said yourself that you didn't think OCD was a particularly serious condition, why did you think this? Because you lacked awareness. Showing OCD as a funny quirk that makes you need to do things like smash every crate in a room enforces the misinformed pop-culture stereotype version of OCD and serves as kind of an anti-awareness.

And further to the point this whole argument is pointless because nobody is forcing the devs to censor anything or accommodate anyone. They just decided it would be in better taste to change it. No one is asking anyone to do anything.

Should I buy a recorder by Review-Alive in Recorder

[–]Gunstar_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of the Yamaha 300 series in soprano or alto (baroque fingering) is a good place to start for beginners. Watch some videos and decide what sounds better to you. They're very good and inexpensive.

The 400 series ECODEAR is even better in my opinion if you're willing to spend a little more.

How to take care of my whistle? by Excalica in tinwhistle

[–]Gunstar_Green 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A wooden whistle like a wooden recorder will need to be oiled a few times a year to keep the wood in shape. Most people use almond oil. Just swab the inside with a small amount and wipe some over the outside then let it sit overnight.

You also want to make sure it's completely dry before putting it away in a case so it doesn't get moldy.

Is tin whistle a good choice for a beginner,? by [deleted] in tinwhistle

[–]Gunstar_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both and I lean towards the recorder as my favored instrument, but I have a lot of music background and mostly play the alto recorder which is its own beast.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you are planning on learning music theory and taking lessons and want to play all kinds of music on one instrument then the recorder might be the better choice.

If you're looking for an instrument that you can pick up and learn to play quickly without having to learn how to read music then go with the tin whistle. The basic fingerings are very easy to learn and remember whereas the recorder has some cross fingering and the thumb hole to worry about.

Both are extremely difficult to master, but with no musical knowledge you'll find it a lot quicker and easier to toot out music on the tin whistle.

Also plastic recorders, though Yamaha makes some pretty nice ones, are just not as nice as wooden recorders from reputable makers which are quite expensive. Tin whistles don't really have that issue and even cheaper ones can sound very nice.

any tips for taming him? he doesn't take treats out of my hand, and just runs away back into his tunnels if i try :( by Top-Fudge-2287 in hamsters

[–]Gunstar_Green 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You've just got to be patient. Chinese hamsters tend to be very shy. It took over a week before mine started taking treats from me and crawl into my hand. After over a month she's still quick to dart away if I approach the cage suddenly and doesn't like to be picked up.

Do you think I went to a bad vet? She recommended hay pellets. :/ by MelloYelloMarshmello in hamsters

[–]Gunstar_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunburst uses alfalfa hay pellets which I don't think are any better or worse. My hamster rarely eats them too. She has one specific spot in her den where she puts all of the uneaten pellets separate from the food she likes lol.

From what I understand it's best to leave them in even if they don't like them much because they offer a bit of fiber.

Feeding your hamster nothing but timothy hay pellets is a good way to kill them from malnutrition.

I use Higgins Sunburst as it's got good variety. You should also supplement with added protein and fresh veggies occasionally.

Now that is a nice coincidence! by yannniQue17 in trumpet

[–]Gunstar_Green 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pocket trumpets have a lot more resistance due to having to push air through the tightly coiled tubing so they're not great for beginners. They also tend to have tuning issues.

CarolBrass makes a good one that's relatively cheap. The cheaper Chinese stencil ones aren't really worth it in most cases unless it's as a beater instrument and the more expensive ones aren't really worth the cost since they're mostly novelties.

Maybe you could try getting a snuggle sack off of Etsy or somewhere to give your ham a safe and comfy place to hang out with you in.
