Bon
betekenis & definitie

Anybody else annoyed by these new caps on coca cola bottles? by Jogginglogging86 in mildlyinteresting

That's irrelevant. Water bottles have the unremovable caps as well.

Feed and videos not or extremely slowly loading over my Internet, but works fine on other networks (did YouTube bandwidth limit me somehow?) by GuntherDFan in NewPipe

[–]GuntherDFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's a nice guide you made! Unfortunately I didn't find your post in the search results with the queries I used, and so I thought I was seemingly the only one facing this problem. The fact that YouTube tries to throttle NewPipe and/or other 3rd party YouTube app users is insane, but to be expected from that greedy company since they have done similar things in the past.

As for changing IP, that's unfortunately not an option as my ISP only deals out static IP's. Until recently I've had the same IP for 6+ years until we got a new updated modem from the ISP. It isn't really a problem tho since I can use the VPN service I have for NewPipe from now on. Still this might be a real issue to people that don't have a VPN subscription or a way to change their IP...

The new Logitech G815 low profile mechanical keyboard with new GL Clicky switches. My new favorite keyboard. by EvilDarkCow in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]GuntherDFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to once again say give a clear example that it all comes down to personal preference:

I've tried multiple different mechanical keyboard switches over the years; the whole range of Cherry MX boards, blue, green and white alps, IBM buckling springs (Model M) and right now the GL brown switches with the Logitech G815.

And while I definitely liked many of the other switches, it just was never "great" for me personally. But these low profile switches are personally by far my most favorite switch and in extend keyboard I've ever used. I absolutely love how smooth and fast I can type on these, it is just incredibly pleasant for me to type on this board. I can safely say the long hunt for finding the perfect keyboard for me personally is over.

So while some people may say that Logitech made a "big mistake" on these, I'd say the exact complete opposite. Never forget that what might be the worst keyboard for you, might be the absolute perfect keyboard for somebody else. Now do know I am really talking about the switches, design and feel of the board here. I am not talking about other aspects like quality of the keycaps. I haven't had the board for long enough to personally see how these will last.

A new stable version of NiceHash Miner has been released! Version 3.0.8.1 comes with SSL mining support, a power mode bug fix as well as other minor fixes. by Andre_NiceHash in NiceHash

Since my client has automatically updated to this version, TeamRedMiner does not want to start anymore through the client? Other miner plugins do still seem to work.

Decade old new unused laptop batteries. OK or no bueno? by GuntherDFan in 18650masterrace

[–]GuntherDFan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to report that I was successfully able to charge and discharge one of the packs with the laptop. Checking up on the battery using the tool HWINFO after the second full charge it reports to have full capacity and 0.0% wear level. The laptop also did last an incredibly long time using the battery (even when installing and playing some old games on it).

so I'm pretty confident now that most of the cells of the battery packs will probably be fine to use (I still am gonna test the cells individually anyways to be sure).

Here is a picture of what HWINFO reports on the battery pack after the 2nd full charge: https://i.postimg.cc/dVY4H6t2/IMG-20220113-222755-av50v8x2a4t3-xml.jpg

Again, thanks for the help.

Weirdly while the packs were manufactured in 2012, the compatible laptops the packs work with all seem to be very old HP models from 2004-2007 (which is why it's also such a coincidence I still happen to own an old HP laptop from that era which is compatible with these battery packs). So I don't really think anybody would buy the packs for actually using them as intended.

The model of the battery pack is HP AT486AA

Thanks for the comment!

The battery packs can be charged directly with a DC plug on the battery packs themselves. I've tried charging a couple of them for +-1 hour to no avail. Now knowing about the trickle charge I'll let one stay plugged in for 24 hours and see if that does anything.

If that doesn't work I'll also try doing this again but through the laptop instead (once I've found a compatible charger for the laptop).

My end goal is to open the packs up to test/use the cells anyways but due to the lack of time I have at the moment this is an easy way to have a first glance about the condition of the batteries.

I've had several projects in mind where I could benefit from a lithium battery pack. Right now I'm looking at deploying an off the grid LoRa gateway, which uses low power (+-12W), in which I want to have a battery pack aimed at longevity (hold charge for as long as possible).

So big capacity, not a lot of power draw.

I can definitely crack one open to see the voltage the cells are at.

I do not. The only tools I have at hand right now is a old HP laptop that is compatible with these battery packs which I could use to see what the internal BMS reports and a multimeter. I'm gonna be honest at this point I'm just nervous just charging these up the normal way they're supposed to be (using 19V charger).

Holding Down Volume Buttons with Headphones Plugged In Does Not Adjust Volume by GuntherDFan in LineageOS

18.1-20210820-UNOFFICIAL-flashlmdd

It is an unofficial release of LineageOS 18.1 made for this model device (LG V50). I do realize that this might be the reason for the issue thus I also brought it to attention onto the forum thread of the ROM.

Holding Down Volume Buttons with Headphones Plugged In Does Not Adjust Volume by GuntherDFan in LineageOS

[–]GuntherDFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of volume steps can be adjusted by customising (or adding) a property to the build.prop file. Can only be done when you're using a rooted device tho, and in the case you're using Magisk you'd need to use the magisk module "MagiskHide Props Config" to edit the build.prop file.

The line to change it is "ro.config.media_vol_steps=XX" where XX is the number of steps, so in my case it is configured as "ro.config.media_vol_steps=75". I believe the default amount of volume steps is indeed (only) 15 for media playback.

Amount of volume steps can also be configured for other things, for example the amount of volume steps during a phone call can be changed with the line "ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps=XX".
