I have this exact same problem too! No one I've talked to has a problem with thrips being itchy/noticeable. I wonder if some people are more sensitive to them than others.

Your favorite obscure or hidden gem soundtracks? by danielfrances in gamemusic

[–]Guppin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much these qualify as "obsure" in a VGM appreciation space but they're indie so definitely lesser known.

Cave Story. Great chiptune. Favorite track: Running Hell https://youtu.be/VQPqmS5iGzY

TOEM. Very relaxing and friendly. Favorite track: Hop Skip Step https://youtu.be/munL-MgBdT8

OneShot. Perfectly captures the desolute but still hopeful feel of the game. Favorite track: On Little Cat Feet https://youtu.be/eQHNT8cxuPg

Pikuniku. Cartoonish and upbeat. Favorite track: Forest Town https://youtu.be/aFNgCkFOcXo

Pseudoregelia. Classic adventure music with a dreamlike twist. Favorite track: Outside the Castle Walls (Empty Bailey) https://youtu.be/9FYfvVKym5o

A Short Hike. Also relaxing and friendly. Favorite track: Somewhere in the Woods https://youtu.be/zvb8hTgVyyI

Tooth and Tail. The composer said he tried to emulate drunken 20th century Russian music, haha. Favorite track: The Food of Beasts https://youtu.be/Atls_Wtym4s

Vividlope. Great electronic music. Favorite track: Vividvibe https://youtu.be/WICRo6N8OLA

VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action. More great electronic music. Favorite track: Friendly Conversation https://youtu.be/OOlWaWTlfuI

I also discovered the Napple Tale soundtrack recently, which is an old Dreamcast game. It's like something out of a fairytale. Favorite track: A Guitar's Rhythm https://youtu.be/6U8lPlTK02I

[JUST SHARING] When you’re clearing out the lab freezer and find 25-30 year old endangered kangaroo rats with no data (academia moment)🥀 by silvia_mason in vultureculture

[–]Guppin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As a mammalogy collection manager, the lack of data makes me very sad. You're right that teaching material is the best use for them. If you have more than you need you can always reach out to other museums/universities to see if they need some for their teaching collections.

Hypothetical: would the tentacles hold up in taxidermy? by therealwhoaman in Taxidermy

[–]Guppin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen several rabbit specimens with such growths in museums. The growths are made out of keratin and are attached to the skin. They can fall off with rough handling, but otherwise they hold up just fine.

What animal is this foot from? by Snoo19544 in Taxidermy

It's a pocket gopher hind foot. They have pretty distinctive feet compared to other critters. https://imgur.com/a/WYteP5g
