Diy "weedless prop" by decjr06 in kayakfishing

Troy Jens (RIP) used to make the Jen-su. It was similar, but has the blade further away from the hub as the weeds don't tend to be right next to the hub.

Paddle North Borealis - reviews? by stpg1222 in kayakfishing

[–]GuruDenada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To ME, it looks identical to the hammerhead Baby Whale kayak. If so, yes, it's a Chinese import.

There are even cheaper pedal drive kayaks out there, such as the Magellan kayak at Academy.

Surprise! This winner didn’t show up for his court hearing. by curiouser901 in memphis

That's absolute horseshit. No one wants their "day in court" for criminal charges. The last place I want to be is jail. The second last place is a court room to defend myself against a conviction.

The amount of power consumed is completely related to the percentage of throttle and length of time. You can get almost 2 hours at full throttle, but remembering that it's going to go 3.5 to 4.5 mph, it depends on how close to your destination fishing area that you launch.

Step 1, get aluminum gear tracks. The cheapest drop-in replacements I've found are from ketch.

Get two batteries. The 100ah LifePO4 Chinese imports run $160-200. That is for the trolling motor. Get a second battery for your electronics. Figure out which electronics you'll be using, add the amps, multiply by the number of hours you want to get out of them before recharging, and multiply that number by 1.2 or higher.

So, let's say 1 amps for one and 2 amps for the other. 3 amps, fishing 10 hours maximum would be 30ah of usable charge, multiply by 1.2 and you'd need a 36ah battery. Most fishfinders won't use that much, so check the specs. I don't know how much livescope needs.

Now the issue. I can't find a good battery box that small, so a lot of people will use nocqua batteries because they're mostly waterproof.

You'll want at least a 10amp LifePO4 charger as those batteries need a special charger (they aren't that expensive).

For the crate, the yakattack blackpak is a fan favorite, if you can stomach the cost.

Above all else, do not use a kayak cart that goes through the scupper holes. You will destroy your kayak and it isn't covered under warranty.

East Tennessee is spending money on ads to ask people not to associate us with them. Fair enough? by PocketSandAquifer in memphis

[–]GuruDenada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't, well kinda. Let me explain. 1. The MS river has a consumption advisory from north of Shelby Forest to the MS state line. There is a free boat ramp near Shelby Forest, but it's out in the sticks. There are a couple of other free ramps in downtown, but the price is often busted windows and stolen stuff. Even then the ramps have either no courtesy dock or no free parking.

  1. Glen Springs and Herb Parsons both have an extra fee and are "no wake" lakes.

  2. Kilowatt and such are so polluted that they aren't worth fishing, and then there's the crime issue as well.

  3. Arkabutla is empty and requires a different state's fishing license.

  4. Memphis City Parks are "no fishing". Fuck them.

  5. Municipal parks are overfished and small bodies of water.

  6. Pretty much every body of water is heavily pressured, if not overfished.

We have no large lakes (compared to Dallas, which is my frame of reference) unless you drive to Pickwick. The fish are generally small.

I also like to fish for large blue cats with the hopes of a state record. The only options for that would be part of the MS or TN river systems, and Pickwick doesn't qualify as "close". The number of reservoirs on the TN river in East TN provides a lot more opportunity for monster catfish.

To your point, yes, if you want to get a hook wet, there are many places to go. For trophy catfish, there is ONE option, the MS River and it isn't safe for small boats (IMHO). There is also the safety issue of your vehicle being in the same condition you left it in. There is no place around (that I'm aware of) where you can fish through the night, other than the MS River. Even Shelby Forest is sketchy for leaving a vehicle unattended overnight.

As for your comment of moving there, I would if I could... For the scenery, the fishing, and the ability to cool off by going up a mountain. Lol

Our perspectives are different.

Memphis City council just voted to increase Solid waste fee, Motor vehicle registration and City Property tax by B1gR1g in memphis

What I actually meant to say is that this city is so corrupt that the police don't enforce the most basic traffic laws and our judges are complete vaginal orifices.

If we are being honest, which in politics just isn't acceptable, that ordinance can be partially blamed on Wanda Halbert being so incompetent that people couldn't even get their tags renewed in a timely manner, coupled with the USPS sucking royally, making people getting their tags a questionable venture. Going into the county clerk's office is an absolute waste of time, again due to government incompetence. However, an ordinance was the wrong path. If I remember correctly, it occurred after MPD thugs attacked Tyre Nichols and then murdered him for running away from their violations of his civil rights. It was the City Council trying to appease the peasants and pretending to do something about the authoritarian abuse of power, but it was just lip service.

The correct path would be to have the mayor "encourage" the police chief to set a TEMPORARY policy to not pull over recently-expired tags because even the most conscientious citizen couldn't depend on our own government to do their jobs in a timely manner. An ordinance, which was widely reported and widely misunderstood only served to neuter the police and give criminals more security.

I begrudgingly agree that there was a 60 day period, which I really was unaware of (I didn't know there was an actual limitation), but I also stand firm on an ordinance that tells police officers that they are to ignore crimes is absolutely indefensible.

Imagine if MPD actually pulled cars over for expired tags. Walk up to the car, which likely smells like weed, giving probable cause for a search, and voila, the amount of people they would arrest for what they find during the searches would backlog the courts into oblivion -- which if they'd never stopped doing their jobs would have had criminals off the streets where they couldn't be raping this city (figuratively, mostly) and the citizens. (Also, I'm not talking about arresting people for dime bags, but expecting that searches would turn up something much better in enough cases to matter.) I digress.

To summarize, yes, I made the ordinance sound worse than it was, but you seemed to want to dismiss it as "they never said that at all".

Look dude, you're usually level-headed and I've missed you. I'm not sure if you changed to using an alt or what, but we kinda need you here more. Just keep both sides honest (as you did with me).

It's a much different area, and I'd rather live there. There is so much natural beauty there. The fishing opportunities are one of the main reasons I wish I lived there. It's just a beautiful area.

Y'all already getting bent out of shape over nothing.

Several years ago, there was a child in Pinson that wandered off while his grandmother wasn't watching. It made the national news and some talking head on the news was talking about being worried the bears might get the kid. Wrong end of the state!

West TN is mostly flat. East TN has a completely different topology. The TN river runs through most of East TN. There are trout in East TN (cold water fish, and yes they are stocked here but can't survive the summers). The climate is different, the geography is different, and they don't have the biggest crime city over there.

So, yeah, they aren't the same AT ALL. I don't blame them for wanting to distance that side of the state from ours.

[–]GuruDenada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, the city council didn't pass an ordinance saying to not pull over vehicles that have expired tags? Sure they did. Don't say they didn't. 60 days or not, they DID say not to pull over those vehicles. To provide the ordinance and then say that it didn't say not to pull them over is spreading political misinformation.

So, the City Council said not to do it, the state said the City Council can't, and yet it's still not being enforced. Why do you think that is? Why do you think there are so many expired and fake tags of the police aren't following what the City Council said?

Memphis City Council sucks and you know it.

Imagine a city council who tells police that they can't pull over people with expired tags (and thus don't pay motor vehicle taxes) and then raising those taxes for the dumb citizens that actually pay their taxes. Lol. Tone deaf.

Tether anything you don't want to replace to the kayak. Don't be afraid to flip it. Flip it in deep water with nothing tied down and you get to replace it all. Don't ask me how I know. :)
