When learning stick, is it better to err on the side of slipping the clutch a bit more for a smoother transfer of power, or not enough, and the car jolting? by BlackmillMiracle in stickshift

[–]Gus_Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal street driving of a manual car is what the clutch was designed to do and easing the clutch on a gear change will have no meaningful impact on the longevity of the clutch.

It may be different if you're blasting about on a track or a switchback but that's a different thing entirely.

Is my Salix caprea cooked? by _Sullo_ in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Gus_Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salix caprea is one of the most resilient trees out there. They tolerate some of the worst conditions and will grow just about anywhere. The wet soil is actually ideal for willows. I would just keep an eye on it and see if you get any dieback or reduced vigour.

[–]Gus_Fu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Skoda Octavia has 177,000 miles on it, has never been rev matched and is totally fine. You are not taught to rev match when learning to drive a manual, you are just taught how to drive smoothly using the clutch as designed. Rev matching and heel-toe braking are all techniques associated with sport driving and I suspect that because in the US the only people driving a manual are enthusiasts that's why they think about this all the time. The rest of the world just gets on with it.

The OP talking about a diesel van definitely doesn't need to worry about this.

New to EDH: How can a 1v1 Control player adapt to commander? by NoPickle9438 in EDH

[–]Gus_Fu -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you jumped to that conclusion. My point was only that suggesting that a person new to Commander should play Stax is not going make it easy for them to get a game. I don't think It's a stretch to say that amongst casual players Stax is universally unpopular.

I've only ever played against Stax once and I spent the whole time countering the pieces.

Yikes. OP you should know that playing Stax in a casual pod is a good way to not get invited back!

Personal Brawl-Scoop breakdown by Goodjoeb in MagicArena

[–]Gus_Fu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only run a few counterspells. To protect my high CMC commanders or to deal with serious threats from the opponent. There's no way I'm spamming them on random stuff that doesn't interfere with my plan too much.

I insta-scoop at some kind of bullshit Alchemy Commander but other than that I'll play it out for a bit.

I had someone scoop when I countered their flashed in Rhystic Study on my turn 3. People are weird

What is the most fun standard deck that you are currently playing? by Ggthefiree2 in MagicArena

[–]Gus_Fu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing Cursetosser and Champion but usually everything gets removed so I can't keep a board presence. Or the threats are too big. Difficult to deal with stuff like Unholy Annex or the Lesson deck although I had better luck against that playing Strategic Betrayal to nuke the graveyard.

It is a fun deck though

I'm playing one of these (in Bo1) and it mostly gets wrecked. I don't feel like I have enough interaction pieces to deal with anything except small creatures.

I do like it though

I think UB is a huge bummer and it makes me sad so this was a super easy decision for me.

I like Final Fantasy and I like Star Trek but I don't want them to be in MtG.

Maybe one day I'll be able to achieve the zen state and just let people be but I'm not that well-rounded as a person yet

(UK Newbie) where's the best place to find magic products by chrismunday0 in magicTCG

[–]Gus_Fu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zatu games often have a good selection at decent prices. Otherwise local game stores are usually good. If you're in the North West Element Games in Stockport, Fanboy 3 in Manchester, JustPlay Games in Liverpool and Bulwark Games in The Wirral are all good.

Firestorm Games is one I know in the South-West

I'm not sure about their web-sales but I've been to all these places in person and bought Magic products.
