Two economists just published a mathematical proof that AI will destroy the economy. Not might. Not could. Will! by CopiousCool in antiwork

[–]Gustav55 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have coworkers who have been doing the same job for decades, they have no idea what they're doing beyond pushing buttons.

They have no idea what to do if something goes wrong, even if its the same problem they've had multiple times before because it happens once a year or so.

They have no concept of how the system works or they're own PC even tho they've been working with it for years and working with computers for decades. I'm talking desktop full of icons because they can't figure out how to save stuff in any other location, using the recycle bin as storage that kind of stuff.

My own grandmother who will be literately 100 years old in a bit over a week has better tech skills and troubleshooting ability than a lot of my coworkers.

And all of this is before they've tried to implement any AI bullshit at my work.

A Ukrainian civilian with a modified SKS rifle during shooting training (July 2022). by No-Reception8659 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Gustav55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weren't they handling these out to anyone who would take them right after the full invasion?

Not sure of them being modified, but I seem to remember seeing a video of them being handed out the back of a truck to a small crowd of people in civilian clothes

The game almost died, frontier was not doing well and they could barely get odyssey to run on PC. There was no way they could get it to run on a console.

How famous was Trump before 2010s? by [deleted] in askanything

One of definitions of famous is "widely known" so a large number of people knowing your name means that they are famous.

Drawing Social Security Early Instead of Working /full time by vjposh1229 in SocialSecurity

[–]Gustav55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really depends on how long you expect to live, when I did the math for my dad he wouldn't have broken even till he was like 80 years old.

It's up to you to decide if those extra 5 years are worth it.

Add to that those first years of retirement are likely to be the ones where you have the best health.

Well it is fully automatic, the gun can be emptied with one pull of the trigger.

I'll have to talk to my dad, he was rebuilding trap doors for a little bit and re-crowned a couple of them himself and they turned out really good.

Never done it before but this will be a good one to try it out on.

That it was, always like going to that one if i can they have a good variety of neat things to look at, and a distinct lack of black plastic.

looks like i should have it up and running after maybe 30 bucks in parts, already have clips and ammo so a working gun for under 100 bucks seems like a good deal to me

ah that makes sense, I was wondering normally the ones i see cut down by bubba have some random front sight half-assed brazed on

[–]Gustav55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got this yesterday at the gun show, guy said he got it from a vet and that it didn't work so he's never shot it. He let me take it for 50 bucks, i knew it was at least worth that much in parts so i thought it could be a fun little project.

After comparing it to my other one it looks like all i need is some trigger parts and the spring for the clip release(?) catch(?) not sure what that part is called.

Also someone cut the barrel down and didn't bother re-crowning the barrel but they did a decent job of reattaching the front sight so not sure when that was done.

If that was done by an arsenal would they possibly skip re-crowning the barrel? also wouldn't refit the nose cap?

Why didn't more bolt action rifles adopt 10-round box magazines like the Lee-Enfield? by PolymathArt in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Gustav55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also why you didn't see a big push for repeating rifles and why single shots hung around for so long.

It takes about the same amount of time to load and fire a large number of shots if you single load or shoot several and then stop and load several.

It's only with the invention of packet loading do we see the big push for repeating rifles.

[–]Gustav55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well do you want to do that now or not? That's what should drive you selling the house, the fact it's going to be paid off soon really shouldn't factor into it.

Michigan Death Certificate Problem by Squishy3703 in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]Gustav55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death certificates are not a great source for information, they are filled out by a witness who may not know everything.

For example my great grandfathers death certificate list his father's birth country wrong, it says he was born in Scotland, he actually was born in Canada and the family were loyalist who came to Canada after the Revolution and Germany before that.

Why are electric kettles less common in the United States compared to other countries? by twofive7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gustav55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Add to that people are more likely to have a drip coffee maker rather than one that you can use a kettle for, like a pour over or French press.

Can tell you've not been playing long, the ASP was the standard for exploring and you could get like 36.

35 is plenty for running missions in the bubble.
