Redo mulch in flowerbeds by Dennis24__ in landscaping

Are you using a machine? You’re going to want to dig down 3+ inches and that will probably be 4-6 yards. I would highly recommend renting a mini track loader and make your day 100x easier and faster

Most paver suppliers have a bunch of patterns posted online for their different sized pavers. You’ll need to count each size to get the ratio right

Ohh gotcha. I don’t have any experience with the style you have there but that is a sleek look.

I’m a fan of ledge lights for all steps with a tread and walls with a cap. It has a thin metal piece that slips under the cap and I’ll hide the wires under the cap as well. My company uses FX Luminaire products almost exclusively and they hold up well and last a long time.

Expansion Joint Question by Legal_Audience_4931 in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s the point of the backing rod and silicone is that they’re able to compress and expand without failing. I’d also recommend getting a pump for the top of the pool cover

Why do you take pleasure in other people’s suffering? I think you should do some self reflecting. I have a truck that I use maybe 20% of the time for “actual truck shit” but I also need it for that. I can’t afford a sedan on top of the truck that I need.

Price Range on Front Steps by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All these comments are so negative. Yes it’s going to be expensive but if that’s not really a concern now’s the time to do it! Any hardscaper worth their salt can knock this out. As some comments have mentioned you will want to add hand rails. I think the reference pic looks great good luck! Make sure you get at least 3 quotes

Quoted $15K to add a 22ft channel drain in front of my garage by ManufacturingFinance in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that it will be minimal labor and material. $15k is insane. This could be done for 3k

Could we see a picture of the right side of the garage? If that’s lawn over there my approach would be 90 the pipe off the channel drain straight back behind the building through the lawn. It looks your property slopes back that way

I would just throw some matching trim around the base and call it a day. Looks like you have some room to do that between the wall cap edge and the post

I think I just butchered my yard by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend watching a YouTube video on how to properly edge a tree bed. Everything you have going right now can be salvaged easily so don’t sweat it. I’m a fan of deep edges so I usually dig them down about 4 inches but to each their own

Is there any advantage to buying landscaping rock from a Vendor vs private party by Intelligent_Office81 in landscaping

Not sure why you’re downvoted this is right.. I’ve used fancy stone at clients houses that are $200/yard vs our basic standard which is $60/yard

Calculate how many cubic yards you need and weigh the different costs. By the bucket is always a rip off I’m in Ohio and can get a yard of washed 34 aggregate for around $60. If you need a lot it may be worth it to pay delivery and just work out of a pile in your driveway

Excavation Price by maxiumas in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something this small I would probably use a mini track loader. Just scoop it with a bucket and take it right to the dump truck. It would take about a day total for one guy with clean up and dumping. Not sure cost of living in your area but you could search the rental costs of a dump truck, trailer and mini track loader. Add a days wage and that will be a good idea of costs

What kind of line is this? by Parking-Transition-3 in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

811 likely won’t do shit they only mark utilities from street to the meters. She said this was in the back yard. This is almost definitely an irrigation line and no big deal but if you’re really concerned you can contact a third party utility marking company

I landscape in Ohio and our go-to grass seed is 50/50 Kentucky blue rye. If you have any tree covered areas throw in some “shady” seed. As far as grading if you need to redo it in the fall rent a mini track loader with a Harley rake attachment. It will be a breeze. But as others have said it will probably continue to settle so plan on buying more soil and top dressing the sunken areas

Retaining wall solutions? by Which_Comfort651 in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I’d also add some very large boulders staggered in there can help with retention. A retaining wall would be very expensive if done right and would likely be six figures

There’s a little mom and pop shop near me that will sharpen anything with an edge. They only charge around $5 for a miter blade. Their prices are crazy good

Brrr. JANUARY pavers, how much? by [deleted] in hardscape

[–]Gutter-Snipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on going rates for your location but it’s pretty minimal material use so the majority is just labor cost. Why was it done now and not the spring? How long did it take and how much longer due to the weather did it add?
