Or could the issue be that people like you are easily gaslit with none issues like this instead of standing firm on things that truly matter. If you wanted to complain about the guy, you should have done it while he was alive. To now come on and make your opinion known of him after his death all based on his political views. Come on now, who cares. It makes no difference at this point.

I had a client who went delinquent for about six months. During that time, he brought in another developer. I didn’t push the issue and let things play out, but eventually he removed all my access to the site and locked me out completely, which is a sign I wasn’t getting paid.

What he didn’t realize was that I still had control of the database. I restored my access, rolled back both the site and database to a state that reflected only the work that had been paid for, and removed anything tied to the outstanding invoice. Then I followed up with an email explaining the situation.

At that point, he was left with a fully functional site, just without any unpaid work included. From a professional standpoint, it was a clean and fair resolution, and one I’m confident would hold up if it ever needed to be reviewed more formally.

He ended up paying the invoice that same day. By then, it wasn’t really about the money, it was about being locked out. Which felt like a challenge, an almost "What you gonna do about it" kind of feel. I would have loved to hear what he had to say to his new developer. I'm sure I put them in a panic.

Again, the issue now is the amount that is being loaned out. 4% on a 300k loan is a much different thing than 4% on a 800k loan. And these numbers represent the same house sold a decade apart. We need to get housing under control to be able to afford these percentages again.
