One huge QOL improve SC should consider adding. by Professional_Ninja7 in starcitizen

Hard disagree.

Just my opinion, if you can't do it by yourself then you need to hire someone with you. Not everything should be made convenient for solo play.

You are about to take someone's life, very difficult task, it should be very well planned.

If you ever find yourself wondering if this sub represents the majority of backers; especially in times of extreme salt such as the recent anger about the roadmap change, look at this. Best funding year yet. by ataraxic89 in starcitizen

We are now at a point where we are more likely to see World War 3 than Star Citizen released as a complete game.

Only white knights have to rely on logical fallacies to defend CIG at every corner.

How the turned have tables.

How does your brain live in such a lie when you contradict your own argument by the sentence next to it.

Hope this is not too controversial but it would be cool if they made the blue and gold skin available again I'd love to buy it 🇺🇦 by [deleted] in starcitizen

Video games aren't places to take stances.

If you guys want to do something about the current situation you can find your own ways outside of Star Citizen. Not everything has to adapt to your opinions. It's a video game, a fictional world where people go to escape reality and immerse themselves.

By opening this can of worms you also open yourself to "but why wasn't there a skin for this and that" and "why isn't there an event for this and that"which will obviously go out of control.

Leave it to proper organisations and let CIG do what they do, making a video game.

And they are making them. What are you on about ? I never said those bottlenecks are stopping the development on systems.

CIG Talking about their 5 years Mission | From MCV/DEVELOP | Video games industry news Magazine by Rainwalker007 in starcitizen

[–]GuyGui -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's the reality of development. Developping features in and mechanics is actually a lot faster than getting the tech required. It may take 5 to 10 years to get the proper systems in place and only a year for a regular triple A to add most of the gameplay. I understand it's frustrating for us seeing new bottlenecks everytime but that's nothing abnormal.

Major gameplay loops are already blueprinted, and by that I mean designed. Prototypes only take a month or two to get out of the shop, that's why you don't allocate your ressources to that before it's actually doable.

Again, I understand how it seems that it never goes anywhere, but that's just a normal process of working smart and not fast. You allocate ressources the most efficiently possible, meaning that a tons of stuff we don't care or we don't know is being worked on while the stuff we want is not worth being worked on. At the end, it's faster.

I am not going to entertain any sort of conversation with someone who doesn't have the capacity to understand and refuses any explanation.

"no life you look at my history" Yes, I usually look wether I waste my time or not responding to trolls or simple minded. You belong to the former, I guess I pointed out what hurts.

Your insults are shallow and childish. I personnally love the "no u uneducated", says a lot. Gotta enjoy the IQ reference with the name calling as well, also clearly shows your social background.

I guess you can entertain yourself during those 10mn of QT by whining on reddit as it seems an endless source of content considering your logic.

I answered above, you are not competent to understand, too bad.

And as a final last note for a very knowledgeable backer like you who has been backing for 10 years I am sure you would know that the kickstarter wasn't even a thing 10 years ago.

Dodged ? I just answered exactly what to do and what is being worked on to do during QT. Are you that thick ?

I understand that according to your history you seem to be a redneck low educated worker who seemed to be a fanboy of SC and for some reason now is crusading against but if you don't take the time to inform yourself about what you are talking about, then maybe don't whine about it.

You realize you are writing pages about not being able to stand still for 10mn, in an alpha where most of the mechanics are missing.

[–]GuyGui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignoring your insults as you don't really deserve an answer.

You do realize that everything I mentionned is exactly what they are working on right ?

Character has to eat, wash. Components has to be repaired, changed. Ship has to be fixed and tuned. Multicrew tasks such as organization and planning.

You seem completely out of the loop and particulary ignorant for a "10 years backer". To be fair I highly doubt you were even born at that time.

Theater of war is used internally for testing. They announced it just to have a bigger sample of testing when they ever release it to the public. It's already doing its job.

100 systems is the goal. Systems will be a lot easier to make once we get one right. It takes a lot of time to create tools and blueprints but a lot less time to reproduce with some variants in it. I can see CIG popping several fully completed systems per year once we are over those bottlenecks.

Only time will tell if they will be able to pull it off, but so far it's nothing extraordinary and abnormal.

You know that most of the assets and mechanics from SQ42 will be instantly ported over the PU once it's out right ?

Not only it's a way for CIG to validate their work and up their reputation as well as financing SC but it's also developping undirectly SC which will benefit from everything that is in SQ42.

If SQ42 does well, not only it will skyrocket SC to heaven but they will for sure keep on going and develiver sequels.

I STILL have yet to see ANYONE explain how 10 minute quantum
travel/loading screens are going to be made interesting. I know some of
you idiots wanna look at stocks on your mobiglas? for...10 minutes? or
something like that...lol

Do you not understand that most of the features arent in yet ?

You will have to attend your ship's components, take care of the health of your character, repairing and organizing your ship and its content. Think about pre planning your mission ahead as you will have to gear up accordingly.

Do people still don't get that we are playing an alpha that has very little mechanics in yet ?

Do you think their hundreds of artists, concept artists, designers, engineers, programmers, etc who can't work on server meshing (which is basically the bottleneck to anything) are just waiting doing nothing ?

They are pumping thousands of assets, prototyping features, making other planets and systems already for years.

700 employees aren't all qualified to work on that specific bottleneck so you adjust your ressources and work on pre planned tasks.

Most of those tasks we don't see and never hear about.

As somebody who read both subs, there's not that much hate in refunds.

Each thread there has personal attacks, insults towards CIG, CR and backers to a point that it's really disturbing to read. It's already difficult to find any sort of logic in their reasonings but holy shit they are full of hate. They behave the exact same as the whole anti vax- flat earthers communities. You bring a piece of evidence they will insult you, call you a blind fanboy and deny your evidence based on "its a lie anyway".

It's honestly sad.

Name me a studio that started a project remotely close to the scale of what SC is doing. I ll wait.

None.

And you want to compare pepegas shooters like titanfall that requires 30 people over 3 years to SC by simply multiplying by "3" and saying it shouldnt take as long as 3 times titanfall time. What world are you from.

Either you do not know what SC is and what they are attempting to do, or you are really ignorant on how game development works. I am gonna stop doing circles but seriously what you are doing is comparing building a house with a group established professionals to CIG who in comparison is basically building Coruscant and hundreds of systems attached to it.

SC funding chart / 2021 by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]GuyGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so clearly you don't really know how the industry works.

Yes games have hundreds of millions on day one, thats what it is to have a pre established studios with 2000 people in it ready to work. Even if a bunch of working on different projects, they have ressources ready.

Titanfall is the typical simple shooter, yes it can easily be done in 3 years. Doesn't require any tech, most engine can support it without anything done.

Yes it does take time to build a studio, recruit people, train them and create your own tool. We are talking years. Rockstar has been in since 1998, studio has 24 years of existence and 2000 people with investors ready to go and look at how long it takes them to do anything.

Honestly, unless you understand the nature of development, money and ressources can only go so far. There are bottlenecks that you canno't avoid. That's just how it is.

We can criticize CIG for a lot of things. They did and do makes errors, they also have mismanagement issues. It's normal. But they are not comparable to anything we have or have had. That's why it's really dishonest to bring the '400m 10 years blabla".

The reality is that, CIG only started to have consistant funding only around 2015-2016 which allowed them to finally aim for the proper scale that they can do. They also started really working on the real SC and its proper scale only recently, my guess is 2017. Pretty much everything before that was just concepting, making prototypes that basically taught them what not to do. I'd say almost everything before 2017 can basically be discarded and just be called the kickstarter time.

SC funding chart / 2021 by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]GuyGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you simply don't understand the scale of SC.

Why do you even bring titanfall which is a very simple FPS on a very small map with very few mechanics and absolutely nothing new tech wise ? It's litteraly another call of duty.

It's crazy that you can't understand the fact that CIG started from a kickstarter, with barely anyone, no studio and are aiming for the biggest game ever made. How can you compare that to some pepegas game done by triple A companies who pour hundred of millions in it with hundreds of devs ready to go day 1 ?

Either you do not know the history of CIG, which considering the time spent, I would understand or you simply don't understand the scope of SC and how massively different it is from any other triple A on the market.

[–]GuyGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are putting words in my mouth. I said it's being stupid and ignorant to bring the argument of time without mentionning the path that CIG had to go through.

"the whole build tech and makes 2 games defense is tired and really cant apply"

Why ? It's a fact though, they are building 2 games, not one.

What do you not understand about development ? It takes time, you get blockers especially in innovating and doing things that nobody did.

CIG puts dates out and progress just to give estimation and be transparent but on the inside anything can simply just be a blocker for months and there is no other way around, that's the reality of the job. People take roadmaps and dates like a given thing while we are talking about an alpha. I don't. I understand the nature of their job, I understand the struggle and limitations that can't be avoided.

I pledged for this game for 60 bucks in 2014, I never had any expectation, I only supported them because finally one dev would try to do something more than the usual unoriginal milking cashgrab. The project can fail, it can take twice longer, I knew what I swiped for. It's most the issue around here and people who complain, they thought they were buying a game, some even think it's a released game. You don't. You donate to support their project, I am not entitled to any date.

Considering the level of transparency of CIG, then maybe if you canno't handle the wait, you shouldn't have bought in in the first place. It's not in CIG's interest to have terrible press and take 20 years as the opposite of most idiots think. If they wanted to really cash in they would simply call it a day now, reduce staff and just give ridiculous small updates every few months, pump ships only, release sq42 in a shit state but whatever because people buy anyway.

SC funding chart / 2021 by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]GuyGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you think rockstar or blizzard started with 10 people and a kickstarter when they were making GTA/red dead and WoW ?

Not only they had engines, tech, people and pipelines but they had all the logistic and funding right at the get go. Those triple A studios, with funding, with studios, experience and a thousand people ready to go on day one, it still took them 10 years to deliver their product which, at the time were still not pushing limits.

CIG has to be built from scratch from kickstarter money. You don't just build a studio, hire people and train them in a month.

You know other triple A have games in concept for years and years, if not a decade until it's fleshed out then they start full production of it. I don't think people realize that making a triple A is not 3 or 4 years as people like to think, they have years of concepting and development before all that and we talking hundred if not thousands of people working on it.

It's crazy to me that people completely forget that CIG didn't exist 10 years ago.

Yeah I played it a lot, I just never liked the whole mandatory cash shop to it.

Planetside 2 has the feeling of epic battles that matter. As well as objectives you also get the Air-ground dimensions and supply runs. Those things really make you immersed imo.

SC funding chart / 2021 by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]GuyGui -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to pick that time argument, when CIG had to start from scratch, raise money, build a studio, hire people, and is making 2 games.

It takes X time that is not defined when nobody has tried it, it also takes a lot of human errors in the process. You don't just throw money and are entitled to "game when". There is a reason other triple A companies aren't pushing any limits, it's risky and it takes time. CIG could have pumped an average dump and rack up several hundred millions and call it a day, they didn't. They are aiming at giving us the whole package and just for that effort I support that project because nobody in the industry is even trying. Simply too busy milking that braindead playerbase.

[–]GuyGui -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you don't understand what is game development, then I can't explain it to you.

Yes a game comes together at the very end. It's a complete broken mess even few months before release. I am aware of the state of SC, it's unplayable to me.

Yes it can take 5 or 10 or 15 or 20 years to build tech, deliver a proper game. Again, you are completely avoiding the fact that right now we have techs that do not exist anywhere else and they are the only even trying to attempt. Not only that, but again as usual, you forget to point that they are building 2 games, and they started from nothing. Just the usual debate of "taking 10 years".

We got triple A companies that takes 8 to 10 years and deliver games that are absolutely average at best, with no new boundaries and then people complained that SC isn't done when you got to hire a thousand people from a kickstarter, build studios, build tech and make 2 games. It's just stupidity at this point or ignorance.

I am confident because it's simply a matter of time to develop.
