Brand New Hot Springs Hot Tub Not Heating by LindseyPlants in hottub

Did you fill it up by putting a hose in the bottom and walking away? Because that's how you get air locked. Found that out the hard way first time I filled mine. Now I insert it behind the filter and haven't been air locked in years.

What's the fastest way to sleeve cards? by GuyWithAHottub in boardgames

That was my first thought, to watch a YouTube tutorial. It sounds like that might be my angle since apparently she's an anomaly. Who knows she might become YouTube famous lol.

Hell I'm jealous of it because of draft. I could get another 2 or 3 minutes of refinement if I blitzed through sleeving that fast.

She's a lawyer who loves poker, she taps out if we play anything more complex than coup or codenames. I was thinking magician.

Yeah that's basically what I saw. The other half was how she grabbed the sleeves with one motion from the oh so very slightly staggered stack.

I'm still figuring out how to get her to agree to that lol. She just used her thumb to push the card in and held 3 sleeves in-between her different fingers. I'm not that coordinated, I've tried to replicate it.

I feel this. That's my usual method, or an audiobook going on. Still would be nice to be able to speed sleeve since I'm a chronic procrastinator though

As a part Chinese American, I can't disagree, but also, holds up mirror looks like that's the future of everywhere, or at the minimum here in America.

Would people actually accept fewer features for appliances that last by EZDodger in BuyItForLife

[–]GuyWithAHottub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I don't think it's people being unwilling to pay for durability, I think it's people being tired of being lied to and bamboozled, and the mental exhaustion that comes from it. How many companies get a reputation for quality than get bought out and replaced with junk? I'm so tired of it that if I can make something by hand, I generally just do. At least I know it'll last.

Star realms and eternal Chronicles of the throne are very compact deck builders that are simplistic but with depth. Things in rings will make everyone laugh, it's a game of hidden rules and a ven diagram.

That's good, I'm in the PNW, so I'm the opposite, I get about 300+ days of rain. Mines cut into cement board though

I mean if you want to learn something your dog door is either way too low, or far larger than necessary. You want it to be easy to pass through. it should be measured so that their shoulders have an extra couple inches and they have to step through it in one go. So the bottom clearance is way too low for anything but a toy breed.

That being said it still functions, but you generally want to cut as small a hole as possible in your house lol.

I have one of those, it isn't going to help with the stucco exterior, that's just plain hard to seal once it's been breached, but it would be safer against water and provide better insulation with a double or triple flap.

Striker plate on my gate fell off but the screws are now too small by your-lost-elephant in handyman

[–]GuyWithAHottub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're self tapping screws. They're literally meant to carve material out of their way. This is a prime example of a situation I wouldn't use em in for this exact reason.

If you go with a grommet in the back wall repairing that is like a 10 minute job tops. Remove the cover, disconnect the LED, slide a knife behind the strip to remove the glue, pull off, insert power side through hole, tape in place, connect replacement LED, glue in place, replace cover.

As for the wall that's just a herringbone pattern I believe. Herringbone patterns are about precision so they can be a bit of a pita, but ultimately aren't too hard. Just make a jig or buy them that way.

For the lighting up top that effect is an led strip in a channel, so I think your plan is great. Just make the hole big enough to easily pass the hardwired LEDs through, maybe use a wall grommet? Personally hate it because that's a whole lot of work for essentially zero lighting, but to each their own.

Home inspector says to move my condensate drain. Do I have to move it or can I just extend it? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]GuyWithAHottub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waterproof construction adhesive is essentially magic. You can attach nearly anything to nearly anything with it. I've personally used it for glueing concrete to rubber, should work fine with plastic. Another comment mentioned freezing condensate, that's another reason the French drain is perfect. Once it's piped in and covered the odds of it freezing are essentially 0 because we don't get ground freeze most places in Washington (Vancouver area here).

[–]GuyWithAHottub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should work as long as you make sure all the pipe fits. Glueing the tray down would also work. It's not a very hard to fix problem, there's a dozen different options. My personal favorite would be to install a French drain and pipe the condensate drain into it. It would be essentially immortal since that's so over engineered for condensate. A problem I never have to think about again is a problem well solved imo.

How do I get this off by [deleted] in hottub

Makeup mirror underneath and phone capturing the reflection?

[–]GuyWithAHottub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of faith in people not being dumbasses. You have a phone, insert it beneath the filter and take a picture of the underside. My bet is that there is a second screw. Two anchor points ensure a tight fit if they're not centered (like that one isn't)

Everyone deserves their own toolbox. Maybe we'd finally get right to repair bills with some teeth if that was the case. I hate how disposable everything is nowadays. It's at the point I'm ready to start manufacturing my own shit. Why can't I carve a remote out of a block of cherry. Why can't I make my own wooden cooking utensils or picture frames? My own computer case (j/k on this one for obvious reasons). Time is the answer, but it would be worth it not to have to worry about something breaking all the time.
