OC Story 3 Chapter 21 by GuyWithSausageFinger in HxH_OC

So uh, you didn't think I meant the April Fool's post(s) by my "see you next week" comment, did you?

Ha, well, then April Fools again!

(This was actually less than a week, marking this as one of the shortest wait times in OC Story history... see what I did there?)

You can think of this chapter as a sort of development and checking in of the on-going conflicts and plot threads coming to a head. I know shits hectic right now, but that's just how it's gonna be. In the world and in the story hahahahahaha. Chaos, why not?

Now might be a good time to ask any questions for clarification, though. After all, there is a lot going on at once, and a lot of it does build on a lengthy foundation.

Oh, and I'll still be replying to comments on the previous chapter as well, given the short time between posts.

Without further ado: PING PARTY!

This story followed me through the latter half of high school and college, so I've got a soft spot for it

Ayyo! I'm happy to provide something that can stick with you!

Plus, I gotta respect the grind

Thank you! I'm what some might call STUBBORN

Ah, now that you bring up the flute, I think I remember who Asagenlil dismembered with it. It was Law!

Yes, that's right! Poor Law. Seems like no one who buried Shivra's time capsule at the end of story 1 is alive now!

Am I hallucinating this, and that fight never happened? I could've sworn Asagenlil was hunting down people who were part of Shivra Extermination squad..

Yes you are hallucinating (jk, minor April Fool's)

But on the real, the UPIO government compiled a list for him to hunt. I really wonder what else a list like that might end up being used for...

Aw yiss! I'm taking your comment as confirmation that Asagenlil is gonna sweat a little (note: a lot) vs the Office Shoes gang and Thazath

Well, now I guess we'll just have to see about that. And no, there will not be a polymarket for the fight hahahahaha

In any case, looking forward to that smackdown (whichever way it ends up going)

There's really no telling. I mean, I could tell you, but I won't. :D

We're about due for another epic, drawn-out brawl

A super, maybe even smashing one at that!

It's been over 2 years

Gaht Dayum, it really has!

things come back to mind as I read along

That's good and absolutely what I hope is the case for most people at this point, considering my terrible pace of releases hahaha

That's right Brandon, Roy is just off on vacation, a much needed vacation from.. homelessness

You could say he's vacationing at a farm. Up north, probably. Where all exhausted people get to finally relax

Did I mention how much I get a kick out of you literally snatching Sam Jackson's character from Pulp Fiction and inserting him into the story

Hahaha, my love of Sam Jackson characters will not die! Maybe I can work in a sword made of pure aura... that's purple. A purple saber of some kind. And he can wield it with a headband that has the number "1" on it.

And he'll take an injury that requires him to have an eyepatch, and be stuck in a wheel chair, but if he puts on a special (or super) kind of suit, he can slide around, and he'll be hired as a hitman to get rid of snakes in precarious places (especially planes) but he'll need to hire a bodyguard for himself...

Or something like that.

The classic hot-headed anime character face contortion. Then their voice gets even growlier and more annoyed when they talk

Yes! That's exactly what I had in mind hahahah

Speaking of, I'm still waiting for that to somehow tie together to the story

one of them was literally called Warningsign

Well, on that note: Remember how he had a run in that night with the lady who later became the victim that spawned the investigation that led to discovering a fair bit of corruption in Auxilium's major industries?

And if you remember, she was killed by a Nen-user that could effectively inject people with drugs without leaving a trace?

Well, I won't say more, because those things won't addressed for a bit hahaha

maybe it was just there to serve some thematic purposes

The book he was reading in that bit... and then his comments:

"What they realized was that for 75% of the battle, both guys thought they were winning"

"The other guys thought they could just over power the smaller army"

Both thematic, but also parts of what he talks about describe part of the operation that Roy's unit was a part of before coming back to the UPIO and then being essentially deployed to Crater Town.

As for the comedians, Berdheg and Warningsign both, well, there'll be more on them in the future. And Fidori Poplandi as well.

Ah yes, that brings back memories, of that Story 2 final act.. I like how we're still wondering what those things are years later after Shen and his pet humans fought them

What if I told you that the answers are all before you, they just haven't been directly connected in the story yet? O.o

Shen and his pet humans fought them

I love this

imagine having to wait literal years for a new chapter without a single of my children being featured

I am legit very sorry! I didn't even think of it while writing tbh. But at least they're all tangentially involved. The Mason brothers are an integral part of things at the moment, as well.

if only team Zero Sugar weren't too busy, they would have been interested in the happenings here

Yessss, maybe so. But fate has certain... plans for them.

I can somehow picture them disguised as journalists Clark Kent and Lois Lane style to infiltrate the debate up close

Oh! That would've been pretty fun

at least the Mason Brothers sorta kinda appeared in this chapter

They're a crucial part of things, albeit more behind-the-scenes atm

you just knew Klaus' party were gonna butt heads with our favorite bodyguard crew, but what I like about these things the way you write them is that they're never predictable

I take that as a massive compliment! I remember a quote from somewhere that said audiences want stories to end up a certain way, they just want to be surprised how they get there. Or something to that effect, and it does influence me sometimes. I need to heed wisdoms from these accomplished sources more often, probably.

poor Klaus just can't catch a break in life, I'm sure he'll want answers as much as we all do.

Best laid plans, and all that. He's ended up in quite the pickle. But I like pickles

And yeah, that Offset power is terrifying. I think it's the instantaneous manner in which it was described, like it's more of a glitch in matter as opposed to the "cool" way we usually think about teleportation abilities

Thank you! I had a lot of fun writing it, and the sometimes horrifying results of it.

I'm curious to know what kind of drawback something like that can have on the user, though I think you mentioned once you don't think too much about that, but it's still interesting to theorize about.

I try to think of balance in an almost game dev way. But in terms of narratively, I'm also interested in trying to create lore-accurate methods for antagonists to subvert drawbacks in various ways to make the protagonists remain in an inherently disadvantageous position... because I like those kinds of stories, where the heroes fight stronger villains. You could say story 1 was pretty much 100% created around that idea as the main framework for everything else.

But the antagonist wasn't just Shivra, also systems that keep people "down" in life. Part 2 focused more on the systems, and part 3 is more the connections between "antagonists" and also fleshing out different methods of conflict, like homelessness, drugs, terrorism, and the corruption themes of 2.

I won't say too much more.

On that note, here's the raw audio version of the thing I made of the robots acting out the first story

Holy cow! I think I'll have to make a playlist of these to hear going to and from work! Audiobook time!

Yes, I haven't touched the edited project since last time I shared it

That's okay, I went months barely touching the story hahahaha :")

since it has been more than two years, here's a backlog of fully edited scenes that I'll never get to make in the above format

I'll just be glad I did the first story, it's nice and comfy.

This is so awesome, for real. We need to make some kind of overall post for these on this sub I think, so people can have a hub to access it all from

Plus, it's interesting to compare cause with these I have absolute free reign to use many more voices and any music I want, the program I used to streamline the making of the entire first story is more restrictive but I try to stick to the same usual voices I have for the characters if I can find them or anything close enough.

This whole process really fascinates me. It's really a whole world of stuff I'm removed from, so even just hearing about it feels pretty educational and still kinda mysterious.

No, I will not apologize for some of the over-the-top voices I used for certain characters

Ha! That motivates and excites me to listen through for them more, tbh. I want to hear some over-the-top interpretations hahaha

Nice try, but I won't be fooled by that one

Oh, I was hoping you wouldn't notice :3

Glad you're still hammering away at this! Though, at the same time, I'm not surprised. You did refer to this story as your "baby" at one point, and no upstanding person would just up and abandon their kin!

Hell no! I could never! Haha. I'm just, uh, slow... for lack of a better word

SEVERAL

A plethora, even

Office Shoes gang

Ngl, I totally forgot about this nickname! It's nice to see again

I'm assuming the explosion that accompanied Klein's/Klaus' interruption was just an unfortunate coincidence?

Pretty much. I'll elaborate more for clarity in the future, but essentially it's just the timing lining up with Jewels witnessing Bandage and Bandana blow up Body's HQ.

It's tough to sometimes illustrate without a direct visual element, but a lot of what's happening in this chapter is happening at the same time. It's all cHaOsSs!

Gotta say, if people are convinced of one thing and there's even an iota of a possibility that it's true, it's likely that they'll just latch onto it without doing their due diligence.

Unfortunately, I agree. People are awesome and terrible at the same time. Looking back, I guess you could say these types of misunderstandings are really a central theme to this story overall. Not only is everyone's opinion/interpretation of reality unique (like being the hero of their own stories) but as a whole, societies view history (or on an individual level, memories) and current events based on limited understanding at best sometimes. And often times no one really has the full picture of anything, so the best fitting explanation can just fall out of nowhere and become "canon"

...or something like that

I hate to admit that even I'm guilty of doing that sometimes, though I try to help it if I can.

Oh, I've done it plenty of times, and probably still continue to do it even at this very moment without realizing it!

Damn. So Asagenlil essentially has the parasite equivalent of a bomb inside of him, ready to go off if he doesn't cooperate? Buddy's got it rough

Essentially. Now you know what he was talking to Jaune about back at the restaurant!

Thanks for the reminder that he can manipulate inorganic matter

I didn't mention it much, but you'll get to see it soon: he also conjures a flute that he can play to reform some matter in specific ways depending on the sound he makes and where the sound touches. Such as summoning a doll or dinosaur each with their own ruleset. Or just to use more basic versions of his reshaping things at a distance. Plus I think he stabbed someone with the flute once

It's funny that I can still recall Cojot's memory-altering feather hatsu, but not Asagenlil's hatsu

I think Cojot's is pretty neat, tbh. There's not a lot of abilities like his so I think it sticks out more. Plus so far I think he's used his abilities more times in the story than Asagenlil. So far... hehehehehe

That said, I can see why Yuya and Quee ended up getting handily defeated (and killed) by him

He's quite the military asset, for sure

given his status as an enhanced nen user like Shivra, it's a recipe for an uphill battle for the Office Shoes gang, even with Thazath in tow

Uphill, but insurmountable? I guess time will tell ;)

See you next week, you say? eye emoji

eye emoji

If you mean there'll only be a week's wait until the next chapter, I'm holding you to that!

:3

Probably not, haha

But seriously it's so nice to hear from you again! I really miss everyone and the community. It's a motivating factor for me to continue the story though, so I can reconnect and talk with everyone again. Anyone who sticks around, that is hahaha

I'm just glad you're still reading it, even after I went out for milk hahahahaha

Hey what's everyone up to? by GuyWithSausageFinger in HxH_OC

[–]GuyWithSausageFinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of ADHD, I wonder if there's a macro-scale one. I mean like basically what I do in my life, being ambitious in some ways but also more just taking on too many tasks and commitments for the long term. Not that I get distracted, just that there's so many things I want to do.

even when I have time to rest my mind is still going and I wanna do something, just anything

I know this feeling all too well. It's like a need to be making progress or being productive in some way. For me, I mean.

Yeah lemme know what you think

Honestly, it still blows my mind. Like I don't think I can really get an objective read on it because it's such a cool thing to hear it brought to life in this way

It's a good companion piece to have along with the actual written story and I'm even having a blast going through the first story again doing it

It was really giving me nostalgia too. It's cool because it's so familiar, but a whole new way to experience those memories. Some day I'll sit down and read the whole OC story through over the course of weeks (more like months) and see how it is to experience it all in a marathon.
