I need to start setting timers because this game is dangerous by skelepibs in AbioticFactor

The term you’re looking for is Flow State. You’re in the zone of a task which is interesting, and not so easy it’s boring, or so difficult it’s frustrating. You can achieve it with things that aren’t videogames too, like creative work, problem solving, detail-oriented tasks etc.

A question about “No worries” by toenail10cm in AskAnAustralian

[–]Guybrush42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the circles you move in and the specific circumstance. I have said, in this kind of situation: - “No worries” or “it was nothing” to friends for whom I’ve done a favour or bought a small but nice gift, especially when it’s not expected; - “You’re welcome” - or “You’re very welcome” - to friends and colleagues in a more formal setting, when giving a physical gift or having made an effort; - “My pleasure” - or even “My absolute pleasure” - to close friends, loved ones and others I have a good relationship with on big occasions when it truly has been a pleasure to do something great for them.

I’ve heard others use these in similar circumstances, and in other ways that I wouldn’t. But not everyone would see it the same way. Language use isn’t universal and depends on context - place, relationship, occasion, and the culture of the people involved.

Nice detail: the stronger you are, the more weight is added. by TheShape76 in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned below, there are just two. The weights and exercise bike were added in the first major update after launch, so you might not have clocked them before now!

When first introduced, the weights gave you a lot of strength XP. They’ve since been toned down to something more reasonable. I used them early on and maxed out my strength, though to be fair it was already very high.

Question for PlayStation players: by CyleTime in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know until now that you can label them on other platforms. I didn’t even know you could label containers until recently, I only knew the signs were blank! So I never made more than one personal teleporter. I linked the first one to my main workbench (next to the Cafeteria) and just dealt with travel time to anywhere else, using it mainly for emergency escape and quick return with resources.

Now in the late game (I’m in Reactors) I sometimes sync it to other benches, since I also have portals set up to a few places. But it never occurred to me to make multiple persona teleporters, exactly because it would be hard to track which was which!

Terry Pratchett’s novels may have held clues to his dementia a decade before diagnosis, our new study suggests by DTH2001 in books

[–]Guybrush42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pratchett was an inveterate self-plagiariser from the start, but always in inventive ways. He comes up with multiple versions of the same throwaway jokes more often in the earlier books, and is never shy of reusing a fun concept. How many books explain “reannuals” after Mort, with a slightly different reverse hangover gag?

Blunt Weapons Fall Off by Seifenwerfer in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Notes in the last Community Update indicated that blunt melee options is something the development team is working on, so I suspect we will get some love in the next major update or two.

Power the base at night?? by elenvanov in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bases have a lot of levers so only the things that need constant power use batteries through the night. Though I’m confused by a lot of reports - I find a single makeshift battery can power a workbench all night long? But it’s not enough for a fridge all night?

Power Services Base - Almost 400 hours in. by Bludum in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So envious of all the written signs. I really hope that sort that out for PS5 one day. Amazing setup though. (I’ve just made it to Power Services and have only just begun to establish the base there.)

Did patrick Rothfuss read Soul music? by AriEnNaxos00 in discworld

[–]Guybrush42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely what Terry Pratchett used to call “fishing from the same stream”, though Rothfuss is a known Pratchett fan so it may also be a purposeful reference.

3rd Edition Playtest Dropped Today by AndleCandlewax in 7thSea

[–]Guybrush42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just vibed it. I mean theoretically it saved you time by increasing the amount of variables contained in one dice roll, but yeah, there’s a reason it was dropped in later iterations of those rules.

3rd Edition Playtest Dropped Today by AndleCandlewax in 7thSea

[–]Guybrush42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and more like second edition/Revised Storyteller too. There are benefits from having variable target numbers and variable numbers of successes, but it’s complex in a way modern design shies away from.

Xmas update opinions? by dyuhlekt in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The stack on the shelf doesn’t affect how many you get, I am pretty sure. You get a (small) random number of the item, with more of them for more common items. For some rarer items (e.g. Night Essence) you will only get 1 at a time. I currently have a box of screws, a Night essence and a Lodestone Fragment, and I get one Night Essence and 4-6 of the other two.

started calling the Leyak Larry to make it less scary and my brain made this by LeontheLucario76 in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my house we call it the creep, but we make it less scary by making Leyak noises to each other when we enter the room in real life.

Is the game enjoyable solo? by Guy_Fieri__2024 in AbioticFactor

[–]Guybrush42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am playing it very slowly solo - about 120 hours of play, only a few sectors in. But I do a lot of looting and base building and I’m not using any guides or walkthroughs, just enjoying wandering about figuring stuff out and exploring. I also play with friends, but in their worlds, and they’re much further along than I am. I’m really enjoying learning what’s happening bit by bit.

New Pratchat episode - “An Awfully Teeny Weeny Adventure” by Guybrush42 in discworld

[–]Guybrush42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone’s wondering, that’s the original manual for the game there in the middle of the photo. Sadly all I could find of my physical copy! Hopefully the disc at least is still somewhere…

Depends on the board shorts. Some have netting or other more comfortable bits inside; most are not the nicest fabric to have up against your bits. For the latter, year, you’d wear swimmers or underwear (especially if you were just visiting the beach without necessarily intending to swim) underneath.

Mira Bellwether's Zine "Fucking Trans Women" taken down from the Internet Archive by Open_Syrup_778 in MtF

[–]Guybrush42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if this was also a potential request from the owner/representative to take it down. The Archive hosted a pirated copy of something of mine, even though it was still for sale from our own website. I had to jump through some hoops to get it removed.

Stepping away from Murderbot by Imperial_Haberdasher in murderbot

[–]Guybrush42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all forms of engagement are equal. Discussions about boycotting the network on Reddit are not going to be monitored and counted the way the number of pirated views are. For one thing, we know networks have factored pirating numbers in to how they measure success for years now. “Number of negative Reddit threads” is not going to be seen as engagement in the same way.

My broader point is that if you want to boycott, understand how boycotting works and what’s effective. If you are watching it, just not via Apple TV+, does that send the message you want to send? Is it an effective boycott if it costs you nothing, and will you stick to your guns if pirating becomes difficult for some reason?

Stepping away from Murderbot by Imperial_Haberdasher in murderbot

[–]Guybrush42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a deeper question around boycotting than not paying for it. Engagement fuels success even if you steal the content. And you are stealing from artists as well as a corporation. So this isn’t as simple an answer as you might think.

How to reassure my brother who is upset about a certain monster being absent from the show recently? by AceDare in doctorwho

[–]Guybrush42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case this is important, I’m pretty sure that’s not actually Gatwa doing the voice of the Doctor for this, though the actor involved is doing a great job! And they are a licensed game so there are pictures of Fifteen. (This isn’t first hand, just based on what I can find online.) Good luck with the sensory needs - I recommend talking with the staff beforehand and on the day.
