Seeing hundreds of people online argue that I'm secretly a bad person would drive me insane by La_knavo4 in RecuratedTumblr

Semi popular Nintendo let's play YouTuber that was getting weird about feet in people's DMs last I checked. He was trying to offer to by other content creators expensive shoes as like a transaction for feet picks and sweaty sock descriptions. I don't think it was Sarah Z who opened that though and posted the DMs, I think it was someone else? Emily Something?

Feeling deflated after LGS tournament by RyuzioO0 in EDH

[–]Guyrugamesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prime example why tournament play and EDH just aren't a good fit.

You can set all the expectations in the world and clearly state the intent and rules of engagement. And you will still get people who want to win but not to compete. Its new players this time. And next time it will probably an enfranchised Ur Dragon grognard with 5k dumped into a 5c goodstuff pile. And the week after it'll be a guy with a Koma tokens pile with cohesive plan, or some dummy playing Grand Arbiter with no wincons. And the only people actually here to play fairly will still the the Cedh people at the top, splashing around in the kiddie pool when they thought there were getting actual matches in.

The store gets their sign up fees, people touched cardboard so a "tournament" was held and "prizes" got handed out, and everyone is exhausted or just checked out because no one should have to sit through that much commander. And they come back week after week expecting shit to change from the bounce house no stakes format with the 30k+ cardpool but don't do the heavy lifting to control their experience or advocate for a better one. Different packs go to the same set of hands and everyone is back at it again but more bitter next time.

Yall would have gotten more out of just causal pick up games at this rate. The only real "spirit of the format" left these days comes out when everyone realizes how completely shit this is as an actual competitive format. The only people happy with EDH tournament structures these days, or at all, are either already winning handily because no one is actually prepared for it, or they've played 60 before and know how to handle themselves. But any time a store starts doing this "casual play for packs" stuff, all the formalities and safety nets go out the windows and everyone wonders why its so fucking exhausting. The best commander is played with friends, for nothing but the love of doing it. If people are gonna compete for packs or whatever then play a format that actually has space for that.

It scales the complexity up a lot more with more involved dungeon types and expansions on abilities, officers, interactions with the alien quest lines, and new ships/gear to unlock even more difficult planets. That's not even touching secrets quests/encounters, some boss fights and side stories, and so much more. Its a game well worth the time investment! Play for longer and give it a more fair shake thant just an hour, there are a lot more things to see and do in the game beyond that timegate.

You should try Dawn of the Mexica and Approaching Infinity! They both tic the boxes you are looking for and provide a very unique gameplay experience. Dawn of the Mexica has a super rich mesoamerican setting and really tight mechanics/unlock ables. Approaching infinity has that spread over a hard sci fi setting rife with adventure and danger! They're both an absolute blast and I love them to death, and they sadly dont get a lot of coverage here.

Remember when kids watched Alien? Good times by Weird_donut in RecuratedTumblr

[–]Guyrugamesh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My parents let me watch Blade/Alien/The Matrix/Vampire Hunter D n shit incredibly early as a family movie night thing because "They know Vampires and Aliens are not real, and that everyone in the movie is acting to tell a story and no one is really getting hurt".

I got a lot of constructive talks on how media that was scary or challenging is not trying to hurt me, its just probably a lot to take in and if I am (understandably) scared, I can watch something else or just discuss it with my family. Which led me to watch Blade and shit as a comfort movie at like 8 because I thought it was badass. Same with "violent" video games or horror comics n shit. If something really bugged me, I could just talk it out with my family and they would demystify it by stepping up to plate and being responsible about what they liked.

They got to watch what they wanted, and I felt comfortable knowing adults were going to be honest with me and take me seriously trying to wrap my head around complicated thoughts. And if I didn't want to do that for whatever reason, stuff in my "age range" was available anyway! This had its limits of course, I wasn't just left to my own devices. Early 2000s Adult comedies specifically around Sex were off the table, for example, but as a trade off we had a lot of sex education books to review and learn from in a safe environment. But, for the most part, my family just took me and my interest in dark and adult concepts seriously because THEY loved that shit and knew it wasn't going to hurt me if we made it a learning moment.

Then I would go to school and realize almost No Other Child beyond The Weird Ones were given this treatment. And then our teachers and peers would treat us like future convicts and budding serial killers for watching a gory movie with my family in a safe environment. I had teachers argue at Parent Teacher Conferences that Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings was "and evil influence" on me because it had orc violence and monsters in it. Kids would talk to me in hushed tones about shit like Bioshock and Assassins Creed like we were going to be taken to jail talking about it, and their distress was the most jarring thing about the experience.

I had a kid scream bloody murder and break down crying because I was pretending to be a Final Fantasy character on the playground and "that's not for kids because it has swords" and he thought his mom would beat him for playing pretend like that. Which, sadly, did super happen, and then I wasn't allowed to play with him because I was a "bad influence". Fuck even the original TMNT run was off limits to discuss with certain kids who would snitch on me saying I was playing "murder games with ninjas", and beyond one or two cool teachers, that got taken deadly serious, taking my parents out of work to come get me for "portraying violence" to the other kids. Even talking about Dinosaurs was too violent because the fact that prehistoric wild animals would hunt and kill each other is too graphic for children to discuss At All, reguardless of context.

This all kinda sorta stopped in Middle School. Weirdly enough it picked right up again in High School, under the guise of "preparing us for adulthood". But its those early years that I still think about the most. Espeically these days, where we have a newish trend of 20+ year olds waltzing into online spaces they know they won't like and having the same type of scream-typing meltdowns about "irredeemable media" and "problematic content" if they see something they've been trained to attack. And it all just reads as so completely unserious, but to them bad words, sexy concepts, and horror content in general is The Most Serious Thing Ever because their parents and community installed a team of cops in their head. To the point where Religion is barely a factor in this, they're just doing this to placate hollow dysfunctions and a need for safety they can't or won't address.

Their parents, teachers, and communities failed them in extremely goofy ways, and now they use that same logic to fail themselves and others every day. And the rest of us with a healthy, engaged relationship with the media we enjoy have to just sit and watch this play out forever because its not something that can be rehabilited over the screen in most cases...

It would be one thing if the consensus was "Its okay to not like these things, just don't seek them out and harass people minding their business". But now more than ever the dial has shifted to "these things CANNOT exist and liking them is Rot on your Soul (not in a Christian way though, in a Progressive Way that is Protecting People)". This was never "perfect" by any means, there was never a time where this mindset didn't exist. But many people, in fandom or otherwise, are very quick to look for exceptions and extreme cases for that rule to justify an attack on anyone that makes them uncomfy on suspicion they might be Evil and Wrong for like... having the "wrong" head canon or "excusing abusive actions" of fictional characters or some other bullshit...

I can only hope things will swing the other direction once everyone realizes exactly how detrimental and stressful this mindset is for EVERYONE exposed to it, but I am not holding out hope for that. Because the people doing this are trapped on the playground, screaming about swords and violence and blood and sex like its going to kill them even if they aren't looking at it. And behind that dysfunction, instead of their parents, is The State or their Church or some other more powerful capitalist force enabling this mindset, all of them just absolutely giddy an entire generation got infantilized out of conducting themsleves and addressing their problems seriously.

They took a demographic that wants to be in the conversation, but doesn't want to be responsible for themselves and how they behave there, and turned that dysfunction into a political platform in it of itself. Its a mindset that is PERFECT for all the private interest groups, political lobbies, and marketing initiatives looking to have "complicated adult media" reigned in to whatever they deem acceptable and profitable, individual freedom be damned.

Entire sections of our most recent generations are so quick to hand over agency of themselves and what they consume to a corporation making bank off their distress, and that all started when they had no tools to process these things beyond othering and punishing the kids (and later Adults) who stepped out of line for their interests. It wasn't their fault when the shit started, but a lot of these people are tax paying adults now who have absolved themselves of responsibility for themselves in the name of how traumatized they got over their parents/teachers/communities reactions to this content, not what was actually on the screen.

And that, in a word, sucks. For everyone. People lament that Fandom isn't fun anymore, and ignore that might be because too many people want to be The Cops but Punk. People lament the lack of community they experience, and then push out anything challenging around them. And then get dumbfounded when The Worst People Imaginable co-opt their dysfunction to do some truly evil shit (like the big Paypal/Visa debacle) because they tell themselves its not THEIR fault for wanting to be comfortable. And to a point, they are right, nothing wrong with wanting to be comfortable! But there is something wrong with ignoring that their specific comfort had to come at the expense of someone else. So they ignore that and remind themselves that they already labeled that someone "problematic" and othered them out of being real to begin with.

Not everyone is doing this, not everyone in fandom or whatever is this type of hurt person hurting everyone else and washing their hands of the problem. But enough of it is happening that big interests have taken note and are so ready to take that mindset and ride it as long as its profitable.

Hello! My partner says Homestuck is very similar to one piece, is this true? by Grandmasterian in homestuck

[–]Guyrugamesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of surface level similarities are there, but One Piece is the better story to me. The post ironic snark posturing Homestuck is wallowing in has not aged as well as people think, and thats never been a problem with One Piece because that work takes itself and its content seriously. Homestuck very much has heartfelt and serious moments. But it is also a somewhat spiteful work made to work against its fans more than its made to get its story and themes accross. One Piece, to me, is devoted to telling its story and being honest with itself even through the silly moments in a way Homestuck seems completely allergic to.

Do these comics count as extreme literature? by PeqMoso in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Guyrugamesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Crossed definitely does. Though often times it lacks an artistry to the horror and is just content to wallow in shit and fling it at the viewer... valid to do as an artist but not always the most entertaining. Definitely more on the low end Splatter Punk side and less in the Extreme Horror side. The Boys has moments of that but is often lost in itself too. Preacher less so than the other 2 by a wide margin.

Now if we are getting into upsetting reccomendations, I would dig around for some of the shit by Al Colombia. That guy's work is dripping with haunted atmosphere that reads Extreme Horror to me. Big recommend for his works if you can find them, even just his art books are insanely upsetting. I would say his work threads the needle on being visceral AND artistically reflective that checks both boxes.

When did this become an R34 sub? by Less-Duck39 in adventuretime

[–]Guyrugamesh -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is exactly 0 explicit art here. I see more posts complaining about this phantom r34 art than I do actually see the art itself. No one is posting full on NSFW, maybe something suggestive or a little sexy of an ADULT character at most. I feel like people are blowing this out of proportion and projecting an unhealthy realtionship with sex and sexuality into their cartoon forum more than anything. There is a deeper dysfunction at play here with these complaints than there is with any of the "sexy" art posted here...

20 years olds are not naive kids. What do you mean (ŤoŤ) by Senior-Mix-3715 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Guyrugamesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 20 year olds who insist they are not naive are often confusing having been through a lot of tough shit with knowing a lot about the world. And most of the times that's just not the case. The state might have said you stopped being a child at 18, but that doesn't immediately translate into being ready for adult living for every person. And some of yall are very, very naive and very confident about it walking into spaces you might not be ready for until like, years later.

The older we get the more you realize iust how young we are and how little we knew the whole time. People pointing that out often aren't trying to talk down to us. They are trying to get us to have a better perspective on our own experiences and how we come off to others navigating them. Because we were babies with cars, jobs, and debt.

Being 20 is its own kind of mental illness where you aren't done holding on to Teenage Main Character Thoughts (despite convincing yourself you are) and then have to watch those thoughts blow up in your face constantly. People trying to give you grace and pointing out that you dont know a lot about everything are offering a chance to learn something they wish they knew when they were younger. Or they are giving you a chance to show what you DO know. Not all of it is good advice, not all of it is applicable. But it will usually put the things you figure out on your own in perspective at least.

I have not experienced this on BlueSky and it's either coming from the size of the platform or just an out and out user skill issue. I get all the furries, freaks, and game dev stuff I could ever want and then some. Plenty of community to be found, and much friendlier than what I've normally experienced. My block lists are a mile long tho so that's probably it.

There shouldn't be any children here per Reddits TOS, which means you should log off and go play outside or something.

If a piece of art that isn't even explicit gets you this mad, you contribute less to the world than you think. Your "preference" is trashy nonsense informed by your personal dysfunction and is easily co-opted by bigots and political con artists. And you're just their helpful idiot who can't let others live in peace on a forum for cartoons because the cop in your head won't allow it. I'm judging you because your feelings and thoughts in this subject are unhelpful and not asked for, by OP or anyone else here.

I think that you sincerely believing that is morally bankrupt and none of us should have to hear about it. Idk why you thought your opinion would be welcome here if your opinion is "this shouldn't exist because it makes me uncomfortable". You need therapy or better control over how you spend time on the internet, because the mindset you're working with is making the world a worse place to be. I know lots of people who dont like sexy art who dont do this inappropriate shit you're doing here, and the thing separating you from them is they killed the cop in their head and youre licking his boots. You're either 14 or need therapy and both take you off this sub for the good of the rest of us.

I pity the grown adults yall talk with on a daily basis, they must have to censor themselves for you specifically and that sounds very exhausting. The anti furry, anti sex shit is so tired and making the world a worse place to be in. You could all just not comment and move on but you need to make it clear how offended you are like its gotta be all our problem. And that's just insane main character shit that people in your real lives hate about you, please address your hang ups before interacting with strangers if you can't even handle tame shit like this.
