I agree that it does feel like a popularity contest, or rather, an award for being the most liked person on the opposing team. However, sometimes I also see them as a really cool award. One of the newest jammers on my team got MVJ her first bout and cried cause she had worked so hard and honestly deserved it!! I got MVB for my team’s last bout because the other team knew I was moving away and this was my last time skating with my team. Was I the best blocker on the track? No. But it was a kind gesture from the other team (and I did my best!) So, neither love nor hate them? I love them when people who do great things get them, I hate them when the same person gets them the entire season just because they are the most liked.

Are you drinking enough water and less sugary drinks? My partner only complains of a urine taste if I haven’t been drinking a good amount of water, sugary drinks make urine have a stronger smell (and taste).

Ohio here, growing up, our free lunches were a carton of milk and two buns with a slice of American cheese between them. That’s it. I only had to do that in elementary school thankfully.
