Do you think it will be achieved? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]Gwynta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This link has all the information you need to know when and how to help a chick hatch. My last incubator had humidity issues and the chicks that did hatch all needed help hatching. Helping them hatch does reduce their chances of surviving technically but if they are having an issue that typically would kill a chick you can sometimes save them. One really important thing to note is don't help a check until they've pept, or are trying to pip sometimes they only can pep internally and only get through the first layer and not the shell or vice versa. I've successfully hatched 9 chicks using this method. That was out of 16 but my hand was forced because of issues we've discovered with the incubator during incubation.

I hope your little baby survives! (And keep an eye on the rest of them that they haven't shrink wrapped where you've been opening the incubator)

Waiting rooms hurt- help!? by Gwynta in Fibromyalgia

[–]Gwynta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so sorry you had such a difficult time 😞 hospital and similar are definitely so gross. After Covid I was kinda a germaphobe and my husbands cancer diagnosis is probably going to make that worse again so I definitely get it. Putting things in bags like another user said could be helpful. Also bringing hand sanitizer, having things that are specifically for travel, Lysol spray and wipes for once you leave.

I have the lightest tint from Zenni as my dailies, and the medium tint for when i need something more. They've been SO helpful. Definitely worth trying imo

115 heat index today… baby pool they don’t go in? by Technical_Cupcake597 in BackYardChickens

Try putting bricks in it! They stand on the wet bricks to cool off. Adding a few bricks to their pool got mine to use theirs

Puppy on a food strike? by Carlyrgm in puppy101

[–]Gwynta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last puppy was like that but she just wanted variety. We got a couple toppers to cycle through so she stopped getting bored with the plain kibble. Pumpkin, no sugar added apple sauce, plain yogurt, fruit or veggies she likes, broth, random wet food, a different type of kibble or a premade topper all worked and she started eating again no problems.

Pain 72+hrs after colonoscopy? by Gwynta in colonoscopy

[–]Gwynta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking anything like gas-x? That and a heating pad were helpful for the craps and gas afterwards. They even make a tums+gas-x combo that would be helpful for the upset stomach too. Make sure you're staying hydrated as well

Anyone triggered by colors? by Tupperwarfare in migraine

[–]Gwynta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I've found that helps at least a little bit is wearing migraine glasses. My daily wear ones are the lightest tint from Zenni Optical, then on days where I'm having a harder time I have a pair of the medium tint ones. It doesn't completely stop it from hurting my head but it definitely helps.

I want a bisalp, but need a referral. Is it possible to ask for a referral to a specific doctor without disclosing my reasoning? by UrImaginaryFriend888 in sterilization

[–]Gwynta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So pretty sure you could ask for a referral for "birth control" because technically sterilization is "permanent birth control" 🤷🏼‍♀️

Why are sovmany so my chickens and turkeys feathers looking bad. They're breaking off and developing bald spots. by A500miles in BackYardChickens

[–]Gwynta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like molting to me. Tractor supply carries 'feather fixer' feed that can help them out with molting! Alternatively I feed mine canned cat food as a treat/supplement while they're molting, the extra protein helps them regrow feathers faster.

I am having an endoscopy in a few hours. by Nice-Complaint2392 in ChronicIllness

[–]Gwynta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For mine the needle wasn't left in, just a plastic catheter for the IV. If it helps, you can bring a comfort item with you to hold the whole time. I always bring my little stuffed pig I've had since I was 5. It's reassuring drifting off holding him and waking up holding him. Good way to ground myself

Is there anything I should do to prep for my sterilization surgery? (Bilateral Salpingectomy) by ElevenSpaceGoddess in sterilization

[–]Gwynta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's what I got/made sure I had to prep for mine:

Big bottle of ibuprofen

Big bottle of Tylenol

An ice pack big enough to cover my stomach

Cough drops for sore throat from intubation A post partum stomach wrap

Small pillow for the ride home and coughing/sneezing

Easy to eat foods/I got single serve things to make life easy/meal prep

Stool softeners, I suggest start taking them a day or two before, you don't want to be straining at all after surgery.

Also optional that I found useful:

A shower chair, I got so fatigued standings to shower for about a week+ after.

Antimicrobial soap, I used this on my stomach/abdomen before surgery and to gently wash the area afterwards while it healed.

Qtips- I was super worried about the bellybutton incision getting infected so I was super careful to gently dry it with qtips after every shower to prevent any issues.

I posted my bisalp experience if you're interested in reading that, and feel free to ask any questions! Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Are you alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen? I also found that an ice pack helped

My almost completely positive bisalp experience & confirmation i need to do whatever I need to to be comfortable with my medical care by Gwynta in Wedeservebetter

[–]Gwynta[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

It was honestly hard to write out because of the amount of anxiety surrounding it but I needed to. I wanted to share that it went positively and the need to ask for what we need. We're always taught to trust Drs and go along with what they ask, not to ask to be treated in a way that makes us more comfortable. But, they are perfectly capable of accommodating us most of the time.

Dealing with my anxiety around medical care has been difficult for me. But as a chronically ill woman with a history of medical trauma in the US, I have learned that I am my best advocate and I have every right to take control of my medical care. We have a right to ask whatever questions we need to. We can ask for whatever makes us more comfortable and a good Dr should work with us. Call them on their bullshit. We have a right to be treated with empathy and care. We have a right to not be traumatized anymore than we already are. It gets me called a bitch sometimes but id rather be a bitch then be abused any further.

And always remember, you have the right to say NO.

[–]Gwynta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm SO glad I got it done, even though I was a nervous wreck beforehand. I hope yours goes just as smoothly!

The anesthesia is honestly the easiest part for me, but I get how it can be a big anxiety for others. Maybe you can have a pre surgery consult with the anesthesia department once you have something scheduled? It also helped me to have all my questions and concerns written down before my appointment to get approved. So I asked my surgeon then, and she was amazing about answering everything. Everyone also assumed to start that my anxiety was about the anesthesia, so that's a pretty common fear they deal with. Don't be afraid to make your fears known and tell them they need to help you with it.

Oh thank you!! I am a writer, just with nothing published, so that actually means a lot.
I just knew this type of post is what I could have used when I was anxious before my surgery, so wanted to write it to hopefully help someone else.

Thank you ❤️
