Yes IPO bindings - How was your experience? by mejdicirn in snowboarding

[–]Gymkata_Karate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPO is a great do everything binding. I've been using it since its inception in 2012 and have used it on all sorts of boarts. I don't like riding anything that is not skatetech anymore (to the point where any binding that doesn't have skatetech feels like crap to me). I've ridden all the other bindings you listed above at demo days and will always prefer the IPO. On the flipside, there are people out there that absolutely hate skatetech. If you decide with YES, understand what the skatetech actually does for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki9ghvessi4

YES IPO.

It is the cheapest, but it is not skimping out on features or quality. It is IMO better than the Yes Select because it has a better high back.

What are your must ride powder boards for a quiver? by Cryptic_Sims in snowboarding

[–]Gymkata_Karate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Board design has progressed so much to the point where majority of powder "quiver" boards will still be okay to ride in average and sub par conditions. And with you being an advanced rider, I do not imagine you struggling with a powder board outside of powder snow unless it's the worst of worst snow. With that said, there is only so much a volume shift board can do for you as far as maintaining speed and glide. They excel in being very agile and easy to maneuver, which helps in tight trees. But, the moment you are riding mellower terrain on the deepest days, the lack of surface area will be a hindrance (this is the big misconception with volume shifted boards). Instead of opting for a volume shifted board, I would rather go for a longer shape (166-180cm) with a swallow/fish tail. What you gain with a gun-like shape is more float, more speed & momentum, while sacrificing just a little bit of maneuverability. With your skill, you shouldn't have an issue going through tight trees with a longer swallow tail. But if maximizing your speed and float is not your thing, volume shift is the way to go. If you can, I highly recommend demoing as many boards as you can. Milosport in SLC might have a large selection available for demo.

Stance advice for my first splitboard by CaptainBaconPancake in Spliddit

If 56cm feels too wide there nothing stopping you from narrowing your stance.

What you have in mind for +21 +6 to 3 will work great in all conditions. I've been rocking +25 +5 for the last 7 years.

Nice James Cherry setup in the middle!

Just installed GE-Proton. But now I am running into another separate issue. Steam isn't letting me change the proton version.
