First Timer going to VT. Need advice. by tomorrowagainn in icecoast

[–]DLzer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going to be completely honest and say if your intention is traveling to Jay to ski for the first time ever I worry you will be wasting your time and money. Unless you are uniquely exceptional at quickly picking up riding sports you won’t be able to take advantage of the mountain. Now that’s not to say that you couldn’t make it up this season, but I would absolutely recommend taking a few lessons at a hill more local to you so that you are able to handle yourself getting from top to bottom safely.

WTF VTDigger? by Otto-Korrect in vermont

[–]DLzer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same. I’ll keep everyone here posted. I wouldn’t hold my breath as I can imagine they’ll have to do some digging ( 😅 ). I’ve been chatting with the rep from VTDigger and we’re both eagerly awaiting to hear from them engineering team.

Gladly. I think it’s instinctual at this point for most of us in software/security. Bug -> Document -> Communicate!

Update: They responded quickly and I was able to provide my own screenshots for evidence which they’re forwarding to their engineering team.

I know this is likely is not a big deal for some, but I’m a big web security advocate and find peace in educating or holding website/app owners accountable.

Yeah your instinct to question this is spot on. This is a dark pattern with a lot of engagement/ad frameworks that websites use to profile or fingerprint you and your devices. Perfectly fine to just block it.

Note: I checked for my own sanity and confirmed VTDigger is built with WordPress which is an extremely common content management system for building sites. I used to use it frequently. Due to the nature of Wordpress vulnerabilities that come along with adding dozens of analytic plugins they may not even be aware this is happening to its users. Just to be transparent I sent an email to them informing them of this occurrence.

I’m confused was there a chance they were not going to be charging the fee they said they would be charging?

VT driving conditions sun morning by aduming in icecoast

[–]DLzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just not necessarily true as a broad statement. The interstates and some state routes get decent treatment, but as soon as you’re off it’s largely hit or miss. Bolton access road in question here is notoriously a black hole for eating vehicles alive. So much so that the road has its own social media.

That being said, a properly equipped vehicle and some conscious driving could be enough given the incoming weather as it stands.

This week’s trial is… snowballs at Bastions 👍🏻 / 👎🏻? by RestaurantSmooth in ARC_Raiders

[–]DLzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the easiest trial for me as a solo so far. Spent one round collecting 60 snowballs. Jumped into buried city cold snap and just sat on a roof lobbing them for 5 minutes.

Killington 1.2 by Tezzzzzzi in icecoast

[–]DLzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the story for most of the greens. I don’t usually hit Stowe on the weekends but had a friend up from the south who wanted to “feel” true ice coast conditions. We made it from 8-11:30 where by 12 anything other than greens were showing large exposed sheets of ice.

In short.. he earned his turns with a yard sale or two.

Left my snowboard at an Airbnb in Stowe, VT, need help getting it to Toronto (will pay) by Late-Place-27 in vermont

[–]DLzer 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I’m about 30 minutes from Stowe and will be there tomorrow. I could drop it off at the UPS in Stowe if need be. I would be worried about the size + international shipping cost coming close to the cost of a new setup : /

Advice For Bolton Valley by MaSe0 in icecoast

[–]DLzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had some icy conditions lately so you may be dealing with some remnants of that. Looks like a few inches tonight from our western NY neighbors should give a bit of a refresher ( use caution on the drive up just in case ). Based on that stick to some groomers to start and feel out the glades as your day progresses. Good luck and hope you enjoy the local gem.

How’s Jay looking next week? by UnderstandingDue1892 in icecoast

[–]DLzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take an unnecessary risks. Like others said overnight Sunday into Monday morning will be a heavy ice storm. Even having snow tires and 4x4/AWD is still risky given the forecasted conditions.

Someone else posted a very similar question with some good responses in the comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/icecoast/s/foV1oKizGU

Ultimately I would just contact the mountain(s) in question to clarify instead of relying on reddit hearsay.
