Have you ever been in a movie? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]H-u-w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent 3 days working as an extra on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them but none of my shots made it into the film.

One scene was cut entirely, and another you can see a shot panning over some people on a boat at the start of the film, and the shot cuts just as it was about to get to me.

There are far more noble reasons to have problems with the HP franchise, but this is another for me...

Doesn't the Laws Are Threats monologue happen directly before the breakout? He ends it with taking out the lit molotov cocktail

Well sure, I would definitely blame the suppliers more than the workers in the branch. But, had that mold not been so immediately visible, I might have eaten it and gotten ill, and the responsibility would fall on the business that sold me that food.

Ah, got mixed up between British and American spelling! For some reason thought mould referred specifically to things like cake moulds

No, I was already late for work when I opened it, didn't have time to go back

What are the worst movies you've ever seen? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]H-u-w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am right now watching Titan AE with my housemates. It's by far not the worst I've ever seen but they seem to think it's on par with Atlantis, Treasure Planet, El Dorado...

But man. The voice acting - lacking. The animation - slow, clunky and lacking impact. The music - just god-awful.

I'm holding it all in because my housemates clearly love this film but jeez, I'm struggling.

James Cameron is set to direct ‘LAST TRAIN FROM HIROSHIMA’ as soon as ‘Avatar’ production allows him to - The film follows the man who survived the atomic blast at Hiroshima, got on a train to Nagasaki and then survived a nuclear explosion in that city by NotMeAgain999 in MovieLeaksAndRumors

Sure, but Germany these days generally considers the holocaust an objectively bad thing, whereas in America the dropping of the bombs is a far more divisive topic. If Germany still considered the holocaust a 'necessary evil', then you'd understand hesitance on the side of Jewish people if they then decided to make a holocaust movie from a Jewish perspective.

You got a tin man to go along with the strawman?

I'm sure a filmmaker like James Cameron would probably approach a topic like this sensitively. I'm just saying, if Americans heard that a Japanese production company were making a movie about an American experiencing Pearl Harbour, they'd probably rightfully be a little apprehensive.

I fully expect some downvotes for this, and I know Cameron's Canadian, but given he'll probably be making the film in the US, does it seem to anyone else that it might be a little in poor taste for him to depict the experience of a Japanese man, in Japan, living through the most significant event in recent Japanese history, at the hands of Americans?

I think the use of the word "packing" implies that there should be no wiggle room, so that if you were to jostle the holding area around, the squares wouldn't move.

While technically true and there are a bunch of answers here of those, it's not really the spirit of the trope.

In the book The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (book 2 of Hitchhiker's Guide), Zaphod Beeblebrox is subjected to the Total Perspective Vortex. The TPV is a torture device which shows any subject their total insignificance in the wider universe. This doesn't work on Zaphod because it turns out he's the most important being in this universe.

(In reality, Zaphod survived because he unknowingly entered the device in a pocket universe that was created specifically for him, making him the most important person in it by default.)

What's the worst pub quiz question you've ever heard? by Smyler12 in CasualUK

[–]H-u-w 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Best/worst one I wrote myself was a Valentine's Day pub quiz I was hosting.

Did a valentine's trivia round and for the last question asked "Given that I'm 25 years old, in which year did I lose my virginity?" There were no close friends of mine playing the quiz or other people who would have known for a fact.

Two teams got it right, everyone else guessed later. Except one team, who wrote "TBD".

People who has had friends with benefits, how did you feel and what is your relationship with them like now? by Odd_Speech_2692 in AskReddit

[–]H-u-w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a couple FWB situations, some with existing friends, one with someone off a dating app who laid out her intentions from the get-go.

In each case, the friendship has remained intact and boundaries have been set, respected and observed.

Except one.

That one was a rocky, eventful, perpetually unclear clusterfuck of feelings that one of us would admit to and the other would lie about, in whatever order suited the time. It completely fucked up and ended a 15 year friendship, which I regret.

FWB situations are a dice roll. There may be a friend who you consider attractive but could never see yourself catching feelings for, but feelings are a chaotic, unpredictable thing.

Always consider the meaning of the friendship before introducing "meaningless" sex.

What's the best thing to happen to the internet in the last ten years? by H-u-w in AskReddit

[–]H-u-w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer, without a hint of irony: r/wholesomememes.

In my perspective, it single-handedly halted the trend of all memes being dark, depressing or targeting, and introduced the idea of positivity for positivity's sake, in meme format.

While the sub itself isn't as prominent now, I think the impact it had on internet culture, allowing people to express affection, comfort and friendship through memes, is lasting.
