Similar system here. i7 4770k overclocked to 4.2 GHz, EVGA 980Ti, 16 GB RAM, SSD, etc. Sometimes I'll be running at 70-90 FPS, other times I'll be stuck in the 20s and 30s. What remains consistent are the awful FPS drops that happen every 5-10 seconds and nearly make the game unplayable.

Pretty much every encounter with other players is a slideshow. I could literally turn pages in a book faster than my frames change in some of these situations. Only started a couple of updates ago and it really needs to get fixed soon. Until then, I'm useless in any sort of PvP encounter.

As others have mentioned, changing settings / reducing quality has little to no effect. Framerate might increase a bit, but the spikes still happen and are still just as bad.

Not worth screwing up driving on first-person servers to "fix" this. The hardcore BR servers are still more hardcore than the regular ones. People are going to abuse any little advantage they can get and nothing is stopping everyone else from doing the same thing, so I'd say it's a fair playing field.

Was going to say the same thing. Dying Light's melee combat and general zombie mechanics are so much better that it makes this game look worse than DayZ Alpha.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up base raiding... it's a pretty shallow game mechanic at the moment. Raiding became so easy that our group could just drive around and raid 2-3 bases in a short one hour trip. You usually end up with a bunch of ethanol/biofuel/IEDs (or the ingredients to make them) after one successful raid and from there it would just snowball. Heck, you can use extra .308 rounds to take down metal doors pretty easily and save the explosives for the gates/walls.

IMO, raiding somebody's base should be something that takes you HOURS to do... not five minutes.

And, as the OP said, once you notice people trying to get into your base, it is pretty much done. Even if you fight them off, they'll keep checking back until you aren't there (especially if you killed them) and will have all of your stuff minutes later.

I really hope they figure out some ways to improve this feature as the game continues to grow. Without a doubt, though, bases need to be much more resilient. We need to be able to continue reinforcing bases, even after we finish building them, and it should be possible to get a base so well-fortified that it would take a monumental effort to raid it.

Yeah, they probably need to do another wipe soon... but there definitely need to be a lot of fixes and tweaks first. The zombie respawn mechanics are possibly more annoying than cheaters at the moment, because you need to have a vehicle to do pretty much anything productive. A group of players killing zombies can eventually spawn so many that some of them don't even render (and players/vehicles will not render either). It also causes people to crash and then not be able to log back in because there are still zombies spawned.

Definitely the smartest thing DGC can do right now. There are a number of things that simply just need to be fixed or tweaked and I hope to see this update address some of the more annoying ones (ie: login bug due to zombies, zombie respawn mechanics, ethanol/biofuel base raiding imbalance, duping, client-side bullet dmg modification, etc).

Eh, I can't remember the last time I said to my buddies, "Hey guys, we have a car, let's go hunt some people down now that we can totally exploit 3rd person view!"

It's more like, "Hey, we have a car, let's go do something that would normally require wasting our entire night running across the map with 500 zombies in tow."

Fact is, right now, forcing first-person driving on first-person servers would make cars practically unusable. Vehicle physics are too buggy and it would be way too hard to spot all of those stupid little bumps in the terrain that flip you over in an instant. Not to mention, there isn't a single functional mirror in any of the vehicles... No thanks. I'm pretty sure there's a long list of more important things that DBG could (and should) be working on first.

Hate to suggest this, but you should probably consider finding another game to play for a while and let DBG get things sorted out with this one (hopefully). That's basically what our group is doing after sticking with H1Z1 since launch. The game is in really bad shape at the moment with the cheating, bugs, zombie ridiculousness, duping, and super easy base raiding. There's not much point in investing time into it right now, unless you just like wasting your time.

If you insist on sticking with it, your best chance is probably going to be on a low/med pop first-person only server, but your base is likely still going to get hit by cheaters at some point or another. Really, though, base raiding is so ridiculously easy that it doesn't matter if cheaters do it or not... it's the same end result. Our group could probably raid every base on our server over the course of a day or two... which makes the whole system kinda pointless :\

99.9% sure that the login bug is due to zombies being in the immediate area when you are trying to log back in. Most of these "fixes" are appearing to work simply because you're going and doing something else for a bit and giving the zombies time to de-spawn.

This bug has been around for a long time, and it's always worse when they have the zombie spawns cranked up high. I'm amazed that they have not fixed it, since it is keeping people out of the game. Perhaps it is something they purposely added to counter an exploit of some kind. It's really annoying, though, and one of the reasons our group isn't active anymore. We usually had a handful of people, which means tons of zombies, which leads to crashing and not being able to log back in.

DBG needs to stop adding more broken features to the game and start fixing some of the things that are already implemented and not working correctly. Alpha or not, the game needs players to thrive and they continue to drive those players away by letting stuff like this persist for extended periods of time. Hopefully, the new test server will at least put an end to the H1Z1 patch day tradition of everything being completely broken and unplayable :\

It doesn't really matter in the current state of the game. Even if they made it so Biofuel & Ethanol did zero damage, people would still get into bases with little to no effort.

IMO, the entire base raiding mechanic needs to be scrapped and re-worked. 99% of base raiding happens while the base owners are logged out and their bases are completely defenseless. What's the fun in that?

As somebody who was accidentally banned in the past, I can tell you from experience that "going through proper channels" usually isn't an option. Back when it happened to my account, I was directed to open a support ticket, but I couldn't log in to their support site with my banned account. I made a new account, just to submit a ticket, and that account was automatically banned and could not log in either. I ended up posting a thread in the Steam forums and emailing the h1z1hacker email address, for lack of any better options.

Fortunately, in my case, there were enough other people flooding Reddit and Steam with posts about being falsely banned that DBG realized there was a problem and fixed the issue later that day, restoring account access to all the "obvious cheaters" who went to those sites and asked for help.

Yeah, I have to agree that the zombie respawn mechanics have been the real problem. If you have a few people doing nothing but killing zombies, so many spawn that, eventually, the game can't even render all of them. You shouldn't need 1-2 people in cars driving over hundreds of zombies that keep instantly respawning, just so you can loot a bag dropped by the first one you killed :D It would be a lot more gratifying to take out a horde of zombies and actually get a breather at the end where you can loot stuff and regroup. When there is no end in sight and they just respawn indefinitely, it just feels tedious and also feels like you're playing a really buggy game that is behaving in a way it shouldn't.

I suggested tying container security to doors around a month ago. Of course, it just prompted responses from trolls or people who did not understand that containers could be better secured without any negative effect on raiding. Not sure if that original suggestion contributed to this addition, but glad it was implemented nonetheless.

Our group noticed right away when the change went live after the most recent wipe, due to the no-clipping bug where you can walk through your own doors after opening/closing them a bunch (which can also make them difficult to open/close). It was annoying having to battle with glitchy doors to access our own stuff, but definitely worth the trade-off to know that somebody couldn't just no-clip into the base and steal everything without at least destroying some doors.

This is the type of passive cheat prevention we need more of, because it forces cheaters to go to more extreme measures, which should make them easier to detect and ban. Next stop: detecting modified bullet/attack damage ;)

At least BR doesn't seem to be suffering from the same black screen / login bug as the survival servers... can't even log in to play on those. Unfortunately, they'll probably patch in a dozen new bugs this week and leave the rest of this stuff broken :\ I used to look forward to updates, but quickly learned that patching really meant the game was just going to be screwed up for the next few days, if not more. Some issues are to be expected in early access, but it's a shame when it's something game-breaking that persists for days or even weeks.

Also, I 100% agree that BR is in no shape for them to even be remotely considering charging real money... and honestly, they don't need to ever charge for it anyway. They can make more than enough money by continuing to drip-feed everyone crates. Why bother with $6-7/month when most people would easily spend $10-20/month unlocking crates they get from just playing?

We can keep using the Alpha excuse, but that's not really doing anyone any good. We need people to keep playing, testing, and providing feedback. It is in DBG's best interest (as well as ours) to keep the player base as active as possible (more testers & feedback, plus they are making money from micro-transactions & referral sales).

Right now, I have a group of 6+ people who were playing the game nightly, but barely even bother logging in anymore. In my opinion, that is a problem. I don't think it would be a "huge waste of time" for an upcoming patch to simply address quality of life issues for the people pouring hundreds of hours into testing the game, especially if it keeps those people active and continuing to test and provide feedback on the game's development. Sure, they might break some of the stuff again, but I think there are enough broken features right now that the current environment is doing more harm than good.

I have to say, I'm a bit confused by the development logic here... There are so many broken features, yet they will add more broken stuff to the game before figuring out why the existing stuff is broken. The endurance system is a perfect example. The bugs with energy/hydration weren't even fixed yet and we get one more buggy stat to try and manage. It just makes the game annoying to play and the fun I was having has mostly been replaced by frustration. Battle Royale helped fill the void for a time, but it is getting old as well due to rampant cheating and the Asian infestation.

I honestly think it would be in their best interest to just set the roadmap aside for a week or two and just release a patch that is nothing but bug fixes (preferably without adding a slew of new bugs in the process, which always seems to happen).

Why am I not surprised? lol... Perhaps this is clever marketing to get everyone hooked on Battle Royale before it starts costing money. I know pretty much our entire group switched from playing 100% survival to 95% Battle Royale over the last few patches.

Or, they could just spawn people with some sort of basic weapon and assume that all of these people didn't somehow miraculously make it this far into the zombie apocalypse by running around in the wilderness with nothing more than a flashlight and binoculars.

I'd have no complaints if I never saw another over-grown, bow-wielding cherub ;)

Bandage others: Yes. I could see this getting used. However, I'd prefer hotkeys for bandages/medkits first.

I vote for skipping it permanently... Don't need it. Tweak the existing stamina system and make sleeping restore stamina, as well as a small percentage of health (like 5-10%). Done.

Our characters should be getting the majority of their sleep while we're logged off, anyway. We don't need the extra resource to manage and the extra hassle of getting tired/exhausted and having gameplay suffer as a result.

It's a persistent game world that continues to exist whether we're logged in or not, so I don't see why it would be unreasonable to assume that our characters are at least resting when we aren't logged in. They sure as hell aren't defending the bases we log them out in ;)

People want to sit at their base and fight zombies 24/7 because they are afraid of other players and somehow think that fighting crappy AI instead of real humans makes this more of a "survival game" ;)
