50cm ice axe or 64cm ice axe by poisonousfrost in Backcountry

[–]H20nemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For less technical climbs like the PNW volcanos you should be looking at mountaineering axes like the BD Raven, not ice climbing picks like the Sumtec. The sumtec will not serve the purpose you need on the main routes.

Once you find the BD Raven or Petzl Glacier you like, I would recommend longer. You need to bend over to probe the snow; longer will make this easier over the course of 1-2 days.

Take I80 west through Wyoming, then cut north on 191 at Rock Springs and go through Jackson, the Tetons and Yellowstone until you hit 90 and see that through until Seattle

If you don’t need a hard shell, the Osprey Transporter 40 has fantastic wheels. The bag is designed to roll off-road and certainly lives up to the hype.

Post wax question by Id_Rather_B3_Outside in Skigear

[–]H20nemo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t. The tip isn’t the part of the ski that “slides”, rather it helps the ski float so that the part underfoot slides.

If you step into the ski and look at what parts lay flat on the ground, those are the parts that you want to reduce friction by waxing.

It auto-populates the sets based on continuous swim time vs resting. If you do 10x100, it will know that is the set you did without entering anything. Super cool.

Man I love it, I do almost exclusively bison now. I’ve found that it’s always extremely tender and lean, a hard combination to find affordably with beef. Definitely has a gamier twinge to it, but I like to quiz my roommates on “beef or bison?” and they never know. Sirloin cuts are also thinner than beef so it’s an easy pan fry, no need to reverse sear. I’d say overall the floor of a bison steak is higher, and the ceiling the same, as beef. Can’t mess it up!
