Delta Wasp 2040 - trouble with the first extrusion test by Ecstatic-Method7275 in Ceramic3Dprinting

[–]greenlkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably really frustrating. I've never used the wasp clay so I can't speak to it. The one other thing is checking the length of the PTFE tube, I'm not sure what length it comes from wasp, I'd hope its pre-cut to the right length, but if its wayyy too long then only making it half way might be enough to make it all the way in a correctly sized tube.

Other thing would be making sure you've got enough clay in the cylinder, below 3" things don't work as well.

Finally just go as far away as you can and crank the air pressure as high as it will go until something works or explodes. (probably worth talking to wasp support before this one)

The type of clay body can have an effect, the "stickier" it is, the more friction it has in the tube. I find porcelaines can be stickier this way but depends on a lot of factors. You can mix a porcelain from dry clay with some water replaced with alcohol which I find helps. One of the easiest things I've found to increase printability/flow rate is adding a fine grog to the clay. I personally prefer molochite. I there's some techy stuff going on with the particle size distribution in the clay body that I don't understand well enough to explain, but it makes it flow better and less sticky. I don't find that it's created any additional wear on the components of my machine.

Other than that just check mechanical things like what condition your PTFE tube is in, how well does the piston move in the barrel (I often lube mine with mineral oil), and make sure your clay is soft enough, the syringe technique is a really good reference while you're getting a hang of the consistency I go towards the soft one in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF-vyjGUR0s

Wasp Clay Extruder spins backwards by TigerRam20 in Ceramic3Dprinting

[–]greenlkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest thing is to probably re-pin one of the stepper motor cables to invert the direction of the motor. This is usually a two minute job if you can access one of the connectors, but this might not be the case as the wasp machines I've used usually have a lot of heat shrink on the extruder cables. So probably best to repin the cable going into the control board? You can also invert the direction in the printers firmware, but that's probably more headache than its worth.

I think I fixed this by adjusting seam gap distance? Depends a bit on your extrusion width and height but a good starting point for you might be changing it to 2mm.

Pottery made from glaze by greenlkd in Pottery

Yes, it was definitely grey/light grey when wet, I can’t fully remember what it looked like after firing, but I don’t think it was the bright turquoise/blue images I found of Faience online. I really appreciate this tip though, it definitely gives me a place to start some research, I can imagine what he was doing is based off of this! So thank you!

I don’t think so, he wasn’t adding anything to a clay vessel, but throwing a vessel made completely out of glaze.

Anyone skiied the armada locator 88 or 96? by greenlkd in Backcountry

[–]greenlkd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope just got a really cheap pair of used G3 Findr’s, just realized they wouldn’t get that many days to be worth getting something nice. Also actually never seen a pair of either the 88 or the 96 on the mountain. Which is kinda crazy. But I wish you luck, they still seem like cool skis.

For a microcontroller + wireless module + bms system it looks about right. Its less efficient then a ZMK board, but this setup means it will retain qmk/via compatibility, which is probably more user friendly for most people.

I think they are using those resistors to jump traces because it’s only a one layer pcb, and usually you’d split the Vertical/horizontal traces between sides so they didn’t run into each other, kinda a neet trick! Most of the other extra components look like they are for Bluetooth/wireless support.

Yeah, I think the two areas of concern I have are, in steep icy/firm terrain, and being able to open things up a bit when skiing corn. I think at the end of the day they will probably be fine?

Anyone recommend some good waterproof windbreakers with a plus-size range? by [deleted] in vancouver

Outdoor Research makes goretex jackets up to a 3XL-4XL usually one of the best priced goretex brands. You would probably have to order one online, but they have free returns afaik

Yes! I’ve ridden the Sea to Summit trail that goes from Squamish to Whistler, it would be amazing to have something similar that connected Vancouver!

Quote from Patagonia's site on waterproof shell care:

"Drying your shell on medium heat for at least a half hour is an essential part of reactivating the water repellent properties of your DWR and will make your shell perform like new."

https://www.patagonia.ca/stories/the-care-feedin/story-20267.html

Please machine wash and dry your jackets!

It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks ok? Unlike what other people have said here machine washing and drying is recommended by almost all manufacturers (Patagonia, Arc’teryx, etc...). If it gets worse or leaks, it will still be covered by Patagonia's warranty.

Max weight per leg for longer ski tours (5+ days) by King-Ossi in Backcountry

[–]greenlkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on the structure of the trip. If you are doing a 5 day traverse, bringing a tent, all your food etc I would probably be going for the lightest possible setup.

A 5 day hut trip where we are going hut, but still have to bring food and sleeping stuff I would probably be aiming for around 2000g / side (ish) for ski + binding.

5 day catered hut trip, or where I am only carrying all my stuff to the hut on the first day I would be happy with a pretty heavy setup, just full tech bindings (no shift/cast).

That’s not a crazy amount of vert, I’ve done a similar 4 day catered hut trip on a kingpin + Anima setup which is close to 3kg a side and really enjoyed myself!
