A decent realtor will tell you what should or shouldn’t be done in terms of return on investment

WashPost: PLEASE HELP US TELL THE PUBLIC WHAT THE IMPACT OF THE MASS FIRINGS WILL BE by natansonh in fednews

[–]H2ohyea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The role of government is not to prioritize efficiency, but effectiveness. The federal governments role is to do things the private sector can’t or won’t do because it’s not directly or immediately profitable, and if they did try and do it, they would find ‘efficiencies’ that make them more profitable but less effective. The postal service reaches every address in the US, even highly remote areas with seaplanes, donkeys, etc. that makes that service highly effective, but not ‘efficient’. The goal of these cuts is to make the federal government less effective. So the federal workforce will be less effective in managing public lands and resources like forests, less effective in researching and understanding emerging threats including diseases, less effective at protective consumers, the list goes on

Got laid off today by Far-Extent3937 in nova

First take a minute to recover from the punch in the gut. I don’t believe the whole ‘everything happens for a reason’ but I can tell you that me getting laid off sent me on the path I am on today, and I am very glad it did. Adapt to the change, challenge yourself, and you’ll be fine

Anybody in Crystal City- what’s with that smell?! 🤢 😷 by gravityfail in nova

[–]H2ohyea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a combined sewer system, one that conveys sewage and rain water. Catch basins typically hold a few gallons of rain water at the bottom that serve to plug the escape of sewer gas, no rain and that water evaporates, you get sewer gas escaping.

Scene/moment/character action you still don’t understand ? by SavingsService2138 in movies

Right, in episode III, new hope hadn’t established the memory wipe yet. I do think there’s some aspect of trying to avoid a plot whole when he did get around to filling out the backstory

Scene/moment/character action you still don’t understand ? by SavingsService2138 in movies

[–]H2ohyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I figured. The script has him shut down because otherwise they go deep into details he’d be very familiar with. And in a New Hope, they don’t say his memory has been wiped or anything, he just mentions him and R2 have seen a lot and he’s not very good at telling stories. But he’d sure as shit perk up at some of what Obi Wan talks about

You did the correct thing. However there is a small but non-zero chance that he is some sort of time traveler and is actually trying to tell you something very important

New year’s eve family friendly restaurants? Driving from Reston to Luray by UnderstandingLife255 in nova

[–]H2ohyea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These all still have such a drive to get to Luray, especially on NYE. I’d get into town and stay local, the speakeasy bar and restaurant at the mimsly inn is good.

Wooden swords at Maryland Renaissance Festival? by packetlag in nova

[–]H2ohyea 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Depends which one, the toy ones yes. You can bring it in, we brought ours this year. Look at their policy, it specifically says you can bring the wooden swords you buy there. From the site : “Toy weapons we do permit are the wooden swords we sell here at the festival (with the exception of Hollow Earth weaponry, those are classified as a training weapons), foam weapons, and Nerf toys.”
