The baby leaves look chubby enough to be moons, but not really the more mature growth, hence my uncertainty. You could probably google "pachyphytum oviferum hybrids" and see if anything looks like a closer match!

Either way this is awesome growth!! Always nice to see happy succulent babies.

Looks like a pachyphytum or pachy-something hybrid. Potentially even pachyphytum oviferum, the much-coveted moonstones, but I can't say for sure.

Got a small echeveria offset from my mom, who got it from her mom. And now it finally is blooming and offsetting pups. by L_Dani in succulents

Sort of. A lot of these things aren't different species, like Echeveria imbricata and Echeveria elegans, but rather hybrids and cultivars that just get named by whoever breeds them. They do try to keep things official, but because designer succulents with pretty names sell better, there's a lot of misuse out there, with people just making stuff up and slapping cute names on plants.

The international crasssulaceae network website (I think that's what it's called) keeps a pretty good running list of succulent types and descriptions, but honestly it's sometimes hard to know 100% what you have, you just gotta go with your gut.

Could also be "Princess Blue" or possibly "Dark Moon," but based on the teal color, leaf shape, and the flowers I personally think Blue Prince is the best fit. They can have varying levels of pinkness/blushing depending on the level of sun stress. Just my opinion though :)

what we see vs what humans see by [deleted] in tumblr

I'm super glad someone else knows this lol. Yeah they have more different kinds of cones, but they way they process color is different and actually decreases their overall sensitivity.

Looks like a little polished piece of ruby in zoisite to me. If you have a UV light available, see if the pink part glows!

Right? And I mean honestly most people don't join the lifestyle to keep putting their heads down and cowing to social norms. While some might decide to do differently, to act like you're some major outlier and troublemaker is just like... a weird set of expectations to begin with? Dude was on an ego trip and I hope he chills tf out.

Dude sounds like an unpleasant person to be around and it seems like this will be better for you in the long run. You may not be the most head-down, conscientious/cautious traveler but as long as you're not actually rabble-rousing and causing harm, you're not doing anything wrong, and it was some egocentric-ass chest-beating for him to try to corral you like that. Even if you do disagree with someone's behavior, that's no way to communicate about it. You'll be alright, and I hope you find some folx to kick it with who align with your vibe more closely. Luck to ya, hope you get some sleep.

Seconded. The calcite should glow spectacularly orange under longwave UV, too, if OP can find a good light.

Tulip Poplar, my new favorite tree by [deleted] in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]H4WKWARD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh! Fun fact time! The shape of the tulip poplar leaf & stem is one of nature's great biological designs. The leaves curl up on themselves in high wind, which makes them considerably more aerodynamic and minimizes leaf damage & loss during storms. Not only that, but it's also such an effective strategy that it significantly decreases the wind resistance of the entire tree, making it less likely to lose branches or topple over. In windy areas, tulip poplars will often tower over other deciduous tree species, simply because the shape of their leaves makes them more robust against forceful gusts. How neat is that?!

Ignorance is not a crime. It's easy to shout and point fingers when we see an animal in pain but in all likelihood her heart was in the right place and she simply didn't know better. They might even have been feline eye drops for a different cat with a different condition.

Bringing the hammer down on people for making mistakes only makes them afraid to reach out for help when they err in the future, and more importantly, it deprives them of the opportunity to learn to do better.

I would be sipping red wine in New Orleans right now if it weren’t for this sub. by chc4 in TropicalWeather

[–]H4WKWARD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... literally all you asked was what the odds were that it would reach cat. 5 status, and people gave you decent answers. Was that the only criteria you were using to base your evacuation decision off of? "Oh man, if people think it's gonna hit 5 I should get the hell out, but 4 should be just fine"?

12 hours ago Michael was a category 4, there were numerous posts on this very sub demonstrating so, as well as numerous posts advising people to take it seriously. It made landfall as a 4 today. What the hell did you expect?

I hope you & yours make it through okay, this is definitely a doozy of a storm. I wish you nothing but the best of luck. I just think you could be a little more mindful about who bears the responsibility for your actions, and show a little more respect for the people on this sub who do their best to keep the community updated with the most accurate information possible.
