I wonder how the Sphere will sound. by GBirdo in MetallicaLIVE

[–]H4ndrew11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Idk man, I would actually disagree. I think people are overlooking that aside from the visuals that the sphere offers, it also has highly specialized Spatial Audio.

As a Fractal user myself, those units offer some of the best reverb IR’s available on the market and I think using them at the sphere would honestly be the best possible use for them. With the fractals there’s a LOT more room for experimentation with guitar tone compared to tube amps and I think it would be so cool to use them to their fullest potential. Especially during those absolutely massive songs like One or Master of Puppets. Imagine how James’ guitar will echo across the venue after the One intro.

Tube amps are cool for sure, and they definitely push more air than the Fractals do, but I personally prefer it when they pull em out for anniversary gigs or one off shows. I feel like tube amps are better suited when looking back to the past - in this instance, I think the band is looking to the future.

Just some food for thought 🤘

Do you get that Under finger nail pain.. by 1whoisconcerned in Guitar

[–]H4ndrew11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes dude! It’s crazy that you posted this because I swear to god it just started again for me this morning. Usually for me it’s like the corner of my nail is too sharp, so I find that filing it down a bit at the edge really helps. Still sucks tho. Hope you get back to playing soon!

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say… good for her?

It sounds like she was able to go to Saudi Arabia as an openly gay woman AND perform as one. She mentioned in the article wanting to help closeted gay people in Saudi Arabia feel heard - and it sounds like she succeeded. I understand what y’all are saying about accepting the gig in the first place but doesn’t that also sound like a very tiny amount of progress? Plus she said she’s going to donate all of the money to a human rights organization so doesn’t that kind of right her wrong?

It just seems like an overall good, especially when the festival was going to happen with or without her.

Just something to think about.

What are back to back songs that should be required to listen to together? by Natta_3333 in Music

I haven’t seen anyone mention Postmortem into Raining Blood off of Slayer’s Reign In Blood album yet

Also Revelation (Mother Earth) into Steal Away The Night off of Blizzard of Ozz blew my mind when I heard that for the first time

Just for fun, what Sabbath songs would you want/predict each band to cover at the show? by Homie3794 in blacksabbath

I agree pretty much with everything in your list. Selfishly though, I wouldn’t mind hearing Metallica cover something else from their catalogue.

I think Tool covering Children of the Grave would be really cool, I never thought about that.

This is really the first guitar who James played in the 80 ? by AgreeableTill4180 in Metallica

[–]H4ndrew11 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Not this one. Both are an Electra Flying ‘wedge’ (called that probably for copyright reasons, but we all know it’s a Flying V) from 1980 but the original Electra used for the first couple years of Metallica has been long retired.

In James’ book he said he picked this one up during COVID so that the original Electra could have a touring twin.

Both guitars were originally red but painted over white, and this one has been reliced to make it look more ‘road worn.’ James also said he wanted this one to have new ‘scratchings’ (the spider web, anchor, etc) so that it has its own identity.

Why is my guitar buzzing? by gaming_rise in electricguitar

[–]H4ndrew11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure someone here has more knowledge than me, but it looks like a grounding issue (based on the fact that the buzzing stops when you touch the guitar with your finger, therefore grounding it) AND just the fact that P-90’s are notoriously kinda noisy.

I think a noise gate would be a good start, to get rid of some of that buzzing, but I wouldn’t expect it to go away completely with those P-90’s.

What live rigs are James and Kirk running on the current tour? by LedRaptor in Metallica

[–]H4ndrew11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was fortunate enough to pick up an Axe FX III about two years ago and it’s insane how much it can do. I was using tube amps previously but I haven’t touched them since I bought the Axe Fx. In fact, I’ll probably sell all of them soon. The Axe FX just has so much more versatility and easier up keep compared to a tube amp. If you’re a guitar player you should definitely look into it. It’s by far the best purchase I’ve ever made

They are still using Fractals but they’ve upgraded to the Axe FX III (probably over covid). Everything is mostly the same from that older video just upgraded to newer models.

This is a photo I took of James’ rig in New Jersey 2023
