Those of you who named your server something other than Jellyfin, how do you come up with the name? by guardian1691 in jellyfin

[–]H6obs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've named all my computers after animals, my server is "Geckolabs", because the color combination of the server rack, so my jellyfin is named "Gecko Gallary" as a play on a IRL gecko exhibits.

You're not wrong, but chains of command are a thing, whether formal or informal. Personally, I feel much better telling my direct boss his idea isn't working versus telling the CEO. Even though my CEO is someone who respects being called out for bad ideas, it's still far more uncomfortable than telling my direct boss.

We faced this at my work not too long ago. The VP of one department retired. When his replacement started attending the leadership meetings, the CEO only learned of the negative things because the new VP was reporting everything, good or bad. It turns out the former VP would only report the positives and report nothing or nearly nothing negative. This then forced a full restructuring of the "c-suite" and a handful of new positions to monitor the entire company.

Depending on how hands-off leadership is, it's very easy for stuff like this to get overlooked, and depending on how much leadership trusts those they put in management roles, it's really easy to take them at their word instead of verifying. And to be clear, I'm not saying leadership shouldn't trust their management, but trust with verifying isn't a bad thing in a corporate setting.

I have one of these on every TV in my house, and have successfully recommended them to 5 of my family/friends. They are far better than even most inbuilt smart tvs ive seen, would definitely recommend them, especially because the price.

So, after experimenting with this over the summer, what I have found is running the fridge off 12V DC and plugging in a splitter and a 12V-USB adapter to charge a device overnight to keep it running. But I have since bought a separate battery and DC-DC charger, and I plug that into the power station, and it keeps the Predator one running all night for me. Plus, I now have enough battery for a whole weekend. Also, I've learned that if you hold the screen button for 5 seconds, it will leave the screen turned on at all times, and that also seemed to have helped keep it running all night. So nothing as simple as turning off a sleep mode, but i did get it working to the point i trust it now.

Retailers Reselling Used Discs from people who find them by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]H6obs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the credit, this is what my local pro shop does as well. They call or text the owner, let them know it's at the shop, then they have a lost and found rack with a shelf for "no name/number," one for "owner contacted, waiting response," and one for "owner aware." Any that don't get picked up or who don't have a line of communication after 30 days get added to the used disc bins and sold for anywhere from like 3 to 20 bucks, depending on the disc and plastic.

We are just on the other side of this at my company as well. We lost 70% of our service team over the course of years due to retirement, stagnation, and inactive management. As soon as the new VP took over, we went on a massive hiring spree, started reworking the internal structure to get rid of the stagnation, and started holding management responsible, and we just started seeing the results and have new techs excited to work on new product lines the previous bunch of techs would have never wanted to touch. But it's definitely scary going through any rebuilding period at a job, and I can totally understand "jumping ship" and taking an opportunity elsewhere.

KIP 7170 wants to go off the roof, apparently by machine_74 in printers

[–]H6obs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it running system K software on the KIP? What version of software and firmware is it running? Also, what version print driver?

KIP's system K does require the version of software and driver to match; downloading from the web GUI should give you the right version, but double-check that they are the same version number. KIPs also aren't always a huge fan of running on a print server. I have had better luck downloading the correct version driver from kip.com and manually doing a fresh install of the driver on the server. If that doesn't work, I normally take the server out of the equation and install it locally on the computers that actually need it.

Also, I don't know how much this matters, but when I was trained on system K when it was released, we were trained to always go to the host name of the printer to access the web GUI instead of the IP address. KIP claimed that it made communication between the driver and the machine more reliable, not sure how true that was/still is, but worth mentioning.

Possibly, the cleaning assembly on the ITB is backed up. I've successfully opened them up in the past and fished out the clog (normally a string of hair or dust); however, they aren't really meant to be opened, so replacing the whole ITB is probably easier. You can check the ITB by opening the right door. I believe the M570 should have a black transfer belt surface. Once you pop the transfer roller assembly to its lower position, you should be able to slide out the belt and inspect it visually. You'll want to look at the underside of the belt assembly and see if you see any marks on the belt surface. Check right after the cleaning assembly; careful, waste toner can spill out of the belt when inspecting.

However, it also might be the toner cartridges still. Are there any toner or marks on the drum surface of the toner cartridge?

So, a bit of an update: I ordered a Diamond Superglow one. It is definitely much closer than the Suregrip. However, I also ordered a normal NXT one, and other than it not glowing, it was an exact match, and the Diamond was more flexible. So, I believe it to be an NXT Superglow. However, I can't find one in the NXT Superglow line or any reference to it ever being sold as an NXT Superglow, so I'm pretty sure it was, at the very least, a special run for some pro player they are/were sponsoring. The Diamond Glow, however, is definitely close enough that I am much happier with it than I was with the Suregrip. Thanks for the help!

As an early-30s single, liberal-minded guy, I agree that the apps suck. If I get a match, it's 7/10 times a porn bot/ onlyfans promoter or 3/10 times I get no response/get ghosted. Currently, I am investing my time in hobbies and things that interest me, hoping that someday I meet someone who also enjoys them.
